  • The coupled turbulent flow and solidification is considered in a typical slab continuous easting process using commercial program FIDAP. Standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is modified to decay turbulent viscosity in the mushy zone and laminar viscosity is set to a sufficiently large value at the solid region. This coupled turbulent flow and solidification model also contains thermal contact resistance due to the mold powder and air gap between the strand and mold using an effective thermal conductivity. From the computed flow pattern, the trajectory of inclusion particles was calculated. The comparison between the predicted and experimental solidified shell thickness shows a good agreement.

  • A numerical analysis has been performed solidification problem using the fixed grid-enthalpy method with enthalpy-porosity relation. A modified standard $k-\varepsilon$ model was applied to describe the influence of turbulent flow. Computational procedures are based on the finite volume method and the non-staggered grid system. Comparisons with the different three experimental results show that applying a modified standard $k-\varepsilon$model in mushyzone is better than the previous computation results. This paper includes another EMBR's influences such as change of velocity field, Increasement of temperature and dispersion of flow out of nozzle into the flow field. These EMBR's influences are compared to case without EMBR.

  • This paper shows an deformation behavior of steel cast slabs, which is used to prevent internal cracks of a slab in an unbending zone, in case of hot charge rolling(HCR) and hot direct rolling(HDR). The value of moving strand shell bulging between two supporting rollers under ferrostatic pressure has been computed in terms of creep and elastic-plasticity and for high strand surface temperature and high casting speed V=1.4-2.2m/min. The strain and strain rate distributions in solidified shell undergoes a series of bulging are calculated with boundary condition a very closed to continuous steel cast slabs productions.

  • This study describes a hydrogen embrittlement evaluation of the subsurface zone in 590DP steel by micro-Vickers hardness measurement. The 590DP steel was designed to use in high-strength thin steel sheets as automotive materials. The test specimens were fabricated to 5 series varying the chemical composition through the process of casting and rolling. Electrochemical hydrogen charging was conducted on each specimen with varying current densities and charging times. The relationship between the embrittlement and hydrogen charging conditions was established by investigating the metallography. The micro-Vickers hardness was measured to evaluate the hydrogen embrittlement of the subsurface zone in addition to the microscopic investigation. The micro-Vickers hardness increased with the charging time at the surface. However, the changing ratio and maximum variation of hardness with depth were nearly the same value for each test specimen under the current density of 150 mA/$cm^2$ and charging time of 50 hours. Consequently, it appears that hydrogen embrittlement in 590DP steel can be evaluated by micro-Vickers hardness measurement.

  • The crack problem of continuous casting slab due to the thermal stresses during the reheating process is analyzed using FEM. In this study, the C(t)-integral is calculated. As a result, the values of the C(t)-integral decrease by increasing the initial temperature of the slab and decreasing total heat flux. And those decrease by decreasing the heat flux of pre-heating zone and increasing the heat flux of heating zone.

  • Aluminum matrix composites reinforced by fine steel wires were fabricated by squeeze casting process. Preforms made of fine steel wires were prepared with different surface conditions, namely uncoated(TN), carbo-nitriding treated(TT), and brass coated(TA). Squeeze casting were performed under the pressure of $1500kg/cm^2$ for 3min. during solidification, and pouring temp. of the melt being $750^{\circ}C$ and the steel mold being preheated at $250^{\circ}C$. Microstructural characteristics were evaluated, particularly concerned with the effect of the surface conditions of the preforms. The results obtained from this study are like these. TN specimens show partially non-wetted regions, due to easy formation of oxides on the surface of the fine steel wires. TT specimens show no interfacial reaction between the steel wires and the aluminum alloy matrix, possibly due to the formation of carbo-nitrided zone on the surface of the steel wires. TA specimens show excellent wettabillity between the reinforced steel wires and the aluminum alloy matrix and very thin interfacial zone is formed between them. During the solution hardening treatment of TA specimens, thickness of the interfacial reaction zones were increased with the solution treating time. TA specimens show typical ductile fracture in tensile test, but TT specimens show brittle fracture possibly due to the formation of the brittle hard surface on the steel wires during carbo-nitriding treatments. TA specimens which were reinforced with 40 vol.% of the fine steel wires exhibit high tensile strength of $77.1kgf/mm^2$ and impact value of $8.1kgf-m/cm^2$.

  • Seungja Chongtong is a small korean tubular arm that made by particular arm-making way imitating a chinese arm. This study organizes scientific analysis results with results of inscriptions reading of Seungja Chongtong in the Central museum of Kyunghee University. Three of Seungja Chongtongs are made with Cu-Sn-Pb ternary alloy which is not much differ in contents and the results of microstructure analysis of Seungja Chongtong 1 which could investigate a microstructure among the Chongtongs were found out that Seungja Chongtong is made by general casting, with no evidences of an additional heat-treatment and tempering. Furthermore, in results of lead isotope ratio analysis to find out a source of lead using during the production of Seungja Chongtong, It seems that Seungja Chongtong is made with a lead ore from northern Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and southern Gangwon-do Province called Korea southern zone 2 area.

The experimentation is as followings, 1. Experimental specimens After invest with Dental Phosphate-silica alumina bonded investment material, the $10{\times}10{\times}1.0mm^3$ wax pattern was casted by Dental high vacuum argon centrifugal casting machine. 2. Test We can analyze SEM/EDS, XRD utilize the fractography(an optical microscope). 3. Conclusion The pure cast metal body constituted of reaction products layer, stability layer and contamination layer. This pure cast have no connection with the cooling condition. The pure Titanium shows difference in a component distribution according to the cooling condition. Through this experimentation we can establish that acicular in the pure Ti-cast metal is consist of Hexagonal structure a=2.9505$\AA$, c=4.6826$\AA$.

  • In order to evaluate the effect of fabrication methods on the controlled release of an antibiotic from a polymeric device, two types of polyurethane-cefadroxil matrix were prepared by the solvent casting method or the freeze drying method, using bovine serum albumin as a pore former. The amount of cefadroxil released from various formulations at $37^{\circ}C$ was measured by HPLC. The duration of antimicrobial activity of matrices against S. aureus was evaluated by measuring the diameters of the inhibition zone. The morphology of the matrices was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Changing the fabrication method could alter the release rate of cefadroxil from the matrix. The matrix fabricated by the freeze drying method had more porous inner structure and showed higher release rate than that prepared by the solvent casting method. However, the duration of antimicrobial activity was shorter when the matrix was fabricated by the freeze drying method.
