ZnSnO thin films were deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) process using diethyl zinc ($Zn(C_2H_5)_2$) and tetrakis (dimethylamino) tin ($Sn(C_2H_6N)_4$) as metal precursors and water vapor as a reactant. ALD process has several advantages over other deposition methods such as precise thickness control, good conformality, and good uniformity for large area. The composition of ZnSnO thin films was controlled by varying the ratio of ZnO and $SnO_2$ ALD cycles. The ALD ZnSnO film was an amorphous state. The band gap of ZnSnO thin films increased as the Sn content increased. The CIGS solar cell using ZnSnO buffer layer showed about 18% energy conversion efficiency. With such a high efficiency with the ALD ZnSnO buffer and no light soaking effect, AlD ZnSnO buffer mighty be a good candidate to replace Zn(S,O) buffer in CIGSsolar cells.
Heavy metals are common pollutants in the freshwater environment and have toxicological effect in habitat organisms. The heavy metals highly accumulated in sediment and organism, and observed various physiological responses. In this study, we investigated the molecular response to heavy metal toxicity (Al, Aluminum; Cr, Chromium; Cu, copper; Mn, Manganese; Zn, Zinc) through expression of heat shock protein 40, 70, 90 (HSP40, 70, 90), cytochrome 450 (CYP450), Glutathione S-transferase (GST) and Serine-type endopeptidase (SP). HSPs showed up-regulation in Cu and Zn exposures. Furthermore, HSPs expression in treated groups tended to be higher than the control group. The tendency of CYP450 and GST mRNA expression was higher for Cr and Cu than for other exposure group. The expression of SP gene was low at Al exposure and other group were measured to be similar to control. These results suggest that heavy metal toxicity in freshwater ecosystem may affect physiological and molecular process. Also, the comprehensive gene expression in the aquatic midge Chironomus riparius give useful information to potential molecular biomarkers for assessing heavy metal toxicity.

Dust samples were collected from 17 middle and high schools in the Jeonju-city. heavy metal concentrations were determined for the dry-deposited dusts from indoor and outdoor of classroom and playground of each sampling site. Concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in indoor\`s dusts were highly concentrated. Also heavy metal concentrations in outdoor\`s dusts were similar to that of indoor\`s dusts. Concentrations of Cd, Cu, and Zn in the dusts were much higher than the world average contents in soil and environmental orientation value. These levels are similar to those of the dust samples at middle schools located at Kangseo-gu and Yangchon-gu , Seoul. Playground dusts in 6 schools exhibited the enhanced heavy metal pollution with a pollution index (by Kloke) greater than 1.0. Most indoor and outdoor dusts exhibited the enhanced heavy metal pollution with a pollution index(by Cullbard et al.) greater than 1.0.

The synergistic effects in mechanical mixture catalysts of Mo-V-O and metal oxide were investigated for the selective oxidation of acrolein. The metal oxides used are $SnO_2$, ${\alpha}-Sb_2O_4$, $WO_3$, ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, CuO, $MnO_2$, $Cu_2O$, MgO, CoO, and ZnO. Mechanical mixtures of Mo-V-O plus $SnO_2$ or ${\alpha}-Sb_2O_4$ had resulted in higher conversion of acrolein and higher yield of acrylic acid than Mo-V-O. The origin of the synergy is attributed to the cooperation of Mo-V-O and $SnO_2$ or ${\alpha}-Sb_2O_4$, in which $SnO_2$ or ${\alpha}-Sb_2O_4$ forms dissociated oxygens at their oxygen vacancies and transports them to Mo-V-O. $Cu_2O$, MgO, CuO, and $MnO_2$, increased conversion of acrolein but decreased yield of acrylic acid. CoO and ZnO inhibited the catalytic performance of Mo-V-O. The different role of these metal oxides is explained in terms of their oxidation-reduction properties.
Analysis of fly ashes from the MSW incinerators was carried out using XRF, ICP-MS and ICP-AES. It was found that the major elements of fly ash were Ca, K, Na, Si, Al, S, Cl and O by the XRF analysis. The XRD spectra showed that the fly ashes were mainly consisted with the chlorides, hydroxides, carbonates and also oxides of former elements. For the determination of minor elements such as Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, and Cd, we used ICP-AES and ICP-MS after microwave digestion and the results were compared with the result of XRF.

Transparent oxide semiconductors (TOSs) are. currently attracting attention for application to transparent electrodes in optoelectronic devices and active channel layers in thin-film transistors. One of the key issues for the realization of next generation transparent electronic devices such as transparent complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor thin-film transistors (CMOS TFTs), transparent wall light, sensors, and transparent solar cell is to develop p-type TOSs. In this talks, I will introduce issues and status related to p-type TOSs such as LnCuOQ (Ln=lanthanide, Q=S, Se), $SrCu_2O_2$, $CuMO_2$ (M=Al, Ga, Cr, In), ZnO, $Cu_2O$ and SnO. The growth and properties of SnO and Cu-based oxides and their application to electronic devices will be discussed.

Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS)
