In this paper, a novel model is developed for frequency behavior of single walled carbon nanotubes. The governing equation of motion is constructed method based on the Sander theory using Rayleigh-Ritz's method The frequencies enhances on increasing the power law index using simply supported, clamped and clamped free end conditions. The frequency curve for C-F is less than other conditions. It is due to the physical constraints which are applied on the edge of the CNT. It is observed that the C-F boundary condition have less frequencies from the other two conditions. The frequency phenomena for zigzag are insignificant throughout the aspect ratio. Moreover when index of power law is increased then frequencies increases for all boundary conditions. The natural frequency mechanism for the armchair (10, 10) for various values of power law index with different boundary conditions is investigated. Here frequencies decrease on increases the aspect ratio for all boundary conditions. The frequency curves of SS-SS edge condition is composed between the C-C and C-F conditions. The curves of frequency are less significant from small aspect ratio (L/d = 4.86 ~ 8.47) and decreases fast for greater ratios. It is found that the frequencies via aspect ratios, armchair (10, 10) have higher values from zigzag (10, 0). It is due to the material structure which is made by the carbon nanotubes. The power law index have momentous effect on the vibration of single walled carbon nanotubes. The present frequency result is also compared numerically experimentally with Raman Spectroscopy.

This study presented a spatial data serialization technique that can efficiently store and transmit large amounts of spatial data for precision road maps was designed and implemented. For efficient serialization, a binary spatial data structure is defined, and a coordinate value encoding technique without loss of information is designed using the Zigzag-Z-order curve. The spatial data serialization technique designed for precision road maps was tested, and the data size and encoding/decoding speed after encoding were compared with Protocol buffer and Geobuff. As a result, it was confirmed that the designed serialization method was excellent in data weight reduction performance and encoding speed. However, the decoding speed was inferior to other serialization techniques in linestring and polygon type spatial data. Through this study, it was confirmed that spatial data can be efficiently encoded, stored, and transmitted using binary serialization techniques.

Driven by the scaling down of transistor node technology, graphene became of interest to many researchers following the success of its fabrication as graphene nanoribbons (GNRs). However, during the fabrication of GNRs, it is not uncommon to have defects within the GNR structures. Scaling down node technology also changes the modelling approach from the classical Boltzmann transport equation to the quantum transport theory because the quantum confinement effects become significant at sub-10 nanometer dimensions. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of Stone-Wales defects on the electronic properties of GNRs using a tight-binding model, based on Non-Equilibrium Green's Function (NEGF) via numeric computation methods using MATLAB. Armchair and zigzag edge defects are also implemented in the GNR structures to mimic the practical fabrication process. Electronic properties of pristine and defected GNRs of various lengths and widths were computed, including their band structure and density of states (DOS). The results show that Stone-Wales defects cause fluctuation in the band structure and increase the bandgap values for both armchair GNRs (AGNRs) and zigzag GNRs (ZGNRs) at every simulated width. In addition, Stone-Wales defects reduce the numerical computation DOS for both AGNRs and ZGNRs. However, when the lengths of the structures increase with fixed widths, the effect of the Stone-Wales defects become less significant.
With the development of small multicopter PAV (Personal Air Vehicle), it is necessary to develop safety-related devices for manned rotorcraft. In this study, we assumed that an external airbag can be installed in a small multicopter PAV, and using LS-DYNA's Airbag Folding Application, we performed a free-fall collision analysis by modeling the airbag shapes consisting or Roll, Zigzag, and Sigma. There was no significant difference in the final airbag deployment time of the three models. However, when it collides with the ground during deployment, the Sigma fold type external airbag had the fastest deployment speed, applying the most impact force to the PAV, while the Roll fold type external airbag applied the smallest impact force to the PAV.

Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) is a relatively new material in the bridge construction. With high strength to weight ratios, excellent durability, and low life-cycle costs of FRP, FRP bridge decks can offer a low dead load, reduced maintenance, and long service life. Due to the lightweight of FRP, if existing concrete decks can be replaced with the FRP decks, the load carrying capacity of superstructure can be increased without strengthening of girders. In this study, we have conducted an experiment on 7 cases of connection conditions with steel girder by using bolts considering a rational and economical method of connection and compared with the results of FEM analysis. From the experimental result, if the bolts are strong enough to resist shear force between the FRP bridge deck and the steel girder, it will be structurally secure to use the zigzag method.
We conducted a numerical study of AC-electroosmotic (alternating current) effect on the fluid flow and mixing in a 3-D microchannel. The microchannel used as an efficient micro-mixer is composed of a channel and a series of pairs of electrodes attached in zigzag pattern on the bottom wall. The AC electric field is applied to the electrodes so that a steady flow current takes place around the electrodes. This current is flowing across the channel and thus contributing to the mixing of the fluid within the channel. We performed numerical simulations by using a commercial code to obtain a steady flow field. This steady flow is then used in evaluation of the mixing performance via the concept of mixing index. It was found that good combination of two kinds of electrode, which gave us a good mixing, is not simple harmonic. And when the length ratio of these two kinds of electrode is 2:1, we can get the best mixing effect.

The free vibration analysis of stiffened laminated composite plates has been performed using the layered (zigzag) finite element method based on the first order shear deformation theory. The layers of the laminated plate is modeled using nine-node isoparametric degenerated flat shell element. The stiffeners are modeled as three-node isoparametric beam elements based on Timoshenko beam theory. Bilinear in-plane displacement constraints are used to maintain the inter-layer continuity. A special lumping technique is used in deriving the lumped mass matrices. The natural frequencies are extracted using the subspace iteration method. Numerical results are presented for unstiffened laminated plates, stiffened isotropic plates, stiffened symmetric angle-ply laminates, stiffened skew-symmetric angle-ply laminates and stiffened skew-symmetric cross-ply laminates. The effects of fiber orientations (ply angles), number of layers, stiffener depths and degrees of orthotropy are examined.
In this letter, an effective scanning method based on a morphological representation of quantized coefficients is proposed for intra coding in H.264. In the proposed scanning method, the scan order for each block is adaptively reconfigured by exploiting a residual correlation beyond the border of the block. An initial scan order for the current block is determined first by using the pattern of nonzero coefficients in the adjacent block. Then, a complete scan order is obtained by performing the dilation operation at each position within the initial scan order. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the coding efficiency up to 3.7% compared to the conventional zigzag scanning method.

To control the depth of an underwater glider, a control method by using Lyapunov's direct method is proposed. The underwater glider has a torpedo-shape hull, a movable mass in the hull, and an inflatable buoyancy bag in the hull, but doesn't have large wings that increase the lift force for the conventional underwater glider. The control laws to adjust the position of the movable mass and the mass of the inflatable buoyancy bag are derived. For a selected speed and an angle of attack, we simulated the operation of the underwater glider using Matlab/Simulink. The efficiency of the proposed controller is shown in the fact that the control effort is active during only a short period of time when the zigzag trajectory is changed from downward to upward or vice versa.
