  • We studied the prototypal developments of Plastic Cortex Stimulator (PCS) for stroke patients. The PC sends the stimulation parameters (amplitude, pulse width, cycle, etc.) to the transmitter ZigBee module through serial port. The receiver ZigBee module generates stimulation waveform. The generated output can be controlled by the PC program. Further study can be expanded to portable handset such as PDA using ZigBee. The wireless control of PCS with the handset can help the tele-rehabilitation.

  • In this paper, authors realize water AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) network using low power ZigBee protocol included routing ability for improving wireless communitation error detection and network range. ZigBee wireless standard is an important standard of the field related Ubiquitous industry and recently has application to Home-Network. It's special features are to spend low power and to include routing ability each terminator. Because of these features, authors realize water AMR system on Embedded system using ZigBee protocol for applying to transfer data between a water meter and RF module equipped with a water meter in each house.

  • In this paper, a user application based on ZigBee is developed using UML. Conventional development procedure for an application using ZigBee stack requires a tremendous effort, since a developer has to study programming interfaces and analyze sample code to modify and add necessary code. In this study, a sample user application based on ZigBee is modeled using UML and embedded software code is generated using an automatic code generation tool. If the application development method using UML proposed in this paper is used, it is possible for a user to easily develop an application using powerful notations of UML diagrams without paying attention to the details of complex programming code.

  • In this paper, we propose a home-networking service using mobile phone and ZigBee module. Recently, ZigBee is widely used for various applications due to its characteristics. Especially, it is generally adopted for home network services. We propose a new home network service model using mobile phones. In the proposed architecture, the mobile phones are connected to conventional home network appliances using ZigBee dongle. Also, several servers are implemented for service management. We implement the whole components of the proposed architecture and show the validity of the proposed method. With the proposed service structure, it is expected to provide various ubiquitous services for the user.

  • 지금까지 무선 통신 기술은 높은 데이터 처리량을 가진 통신에 대하여 집중 개발되었으나, 낮은 처리량과 적은 비용, 낮은 전력소모의 요구사항을 가진 소형 경량의 무선 통신 분야의 기술개발은 활발하지 못했다. 현존하는 무선 통신 기술들을 낮은 처리율과 낮은 가격, 낮은 전력소모의 요구사항에 적용하기에는 필요이상의 성능과 비용이 들어가며, 특히 많은 전력을 소모하는 문제점이 발생한다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 소형 경량의 무선 통신 기술인 ZigBee가 생겨나게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 현존하는 무선 통신 기술과 ZigBee 기술을 비교분석하여 ZigBee 기술의 필요성과 장단점을 제시하고, ZigBee의 핵심 기술 중 하나인 IEEE 802.15.4 MAC(Medium Access Control) 프로토콜 개발결과를 기술한다.

  • Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) has attracted great interest recently and the necessity of ZigBee has appeared to standardize and apply the upper layer specification based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard specification in industrial field. Currently, there are many studies about the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee communication channel. And it is subject of interest to analyze the performance in various channel environments. In this paper, we propose channel models through the analysis of the IEEE 802.15.4 radio wave propagation characteristics in various channel environments. Also, we have analyzed the performance of the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee for the standard of physical layer of 2.4GHz band in each channel environments.

  • Security is critically important for ubiquitous sensor networks that are usually used for the military and serveillance in environments that are opened to attacks, such as, eavesdroping, replay attacks of abnormal messages, forgery of the messages to name a few. ZigBee has emerged as a strong contender for ubiquitous sensor networks. ZigBee is used for low data rate and low power wireless sensor network applications. To deploy ubiquitous sensor networks, the collected information requires protection from an adversary over the network in many cases. The security mechanism should be provided for collecting the information over the network. However, the ZigBee protocol has some security weaknesses. In this paper, these weaknesses are discussed and a method to improve security aspect of the ZigBee protocol is presented along with a comparison of the message complexity of the proposed security protocol with that of the current ZigBee protocol.

  • The ZigBee is one of the most important technologies for composing USN. It is one of the IEEE 802.15.4 standards to support personal area networks. It uses a hierarchical routing or an on-demand route discovery strategy as an address allocation method. A hierarchical routing doesn't use a routing table but only uses a child node or a parent node as an intermediate node for data delivery. Therefore, the ZigBee network's topology greatly affects the overall network performance. In this paper, we propose a more trustworthy algorithm than only using the depth and widely variable LQI during network formation, and moreover we propose an algorithm to measure network's trustworthiness. We simulate our algorithm using the NS-2 and implement our network using the MG2400 ZigBee module for verifying performance.

  • 최근 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시대에 가까워지면서, 다양한 형태의 소형센서를 무선네트웍으로 연결하여 일정 범위 내의 다양한 정보를 수집하여 이용할 수 있는 무선센서네트웍시스템에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행중이다. 현재 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 무선센서네트웍 아키텍처는 IEEE 802.15.4에 제안된 MAC과 ZigBee Alliance에서 개발된 ZigBee를 이용한 것이다. ZigBee에는 네트웍계층, 응용프레임웍 등 많은 기능과 규격이 포함되어 있으며, 그 중 응용프레임웍에는 각 센서장치들 간의 통신을 원활하게 하기 위하여 여러 가지 데이터 형이 정의되어 있다. ZigBee 응용프레임웍에 정의되어 있는 여러 데이터형 중 준정밀수형(semi-precision number type)은 수의 절대값이 작은 범위에서는 높은 해상도로 수를 표현할 수 있고 절대값이 큰 범위일수록 상대적으로 낮은 해상도로 수를 표현할 수 있어, 빛의 강도, 소리의 크기 등 그 크기를 표현함에 있어 절대값에 반비례하는 해상도로 표현하여도 무방한 경우 매우 유용하게 사용된다. 그러나 현재 ZigBee에서 정의한 준정밀수형은 높은 해상도로 표현되어야 하는 구간 중 특정 구간에서 해당 값을 표현할 수 없는 구간이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 준정밀수의 특징과 문제점을 살펴보고, 이러한 문제를 해결할 수 있는 새로운 형식의 준정밀수형을 제안한다.

  • ZigBee is one of wireless communication standards and many applications based on Zigbee have been developing for commercial applications. Most of those applications require links to Internet like Zigbee service gateways. However, ZigBee service gateway should provides following functions to be effectively utilized itself: translation of messages between diverse ZigBee application profiles and message formats used in Internet, addition/removal of a new ZigBee service without stopping existing services according to addition/removal of a Zigbee node, and no transmission of unwanted packets to ZigBee network. Therefore, this paper proposes a new type of ZigBee Service Gateway, called ZiGate to provide the functions. The proposed ZiGate is capable of re-configurating message translation modules required in case of addition/removal of nodes and doesn't transmit unnecessary packets to the ZigBee networks by synchronizing itself with ZigBee network. And ZiGate provides translation modules between messages defined in Zigbee application profiles and both text-based and binary-based messages used in Internet. In this paper we implements the ZiGate and evaluates it on the test bed. This evaluations show that the proposed ZiGate works efficiently.
