  • The secondary correction of cleft lip nasal deformity (CLND) presents difficult surgical problems. Characteristically, nostrils are asymmetric. The present study was aimed to examine and compare the effect of Straith's alar web Z-plasty, Millard's alar web Z-plasty, alar web excision, and lateral V-Y advancement of the alar base for augmentation of the nostril with or without lengthening the columella in CLND. The subjects were 28 patients with unilateral cleft lip, who had secondary nostril correction. The nostril correction methods were Straith's alar web Z-plasty, Millard's alar web Z-plasty, alar web excision, and lateral V-Y advancement of the alar base. Facial photographs were taken before and 20 days after the operation. By using Adobe photoshop, the columella length and the nostril width were measured from the facial frontal photograph and Worm's eye view. The degree of improvement was calculated and statistically analyzed. The degree of improvement of the columella length using Straith's alar web Z-plasty was 70.20%. And then Millard's alar web Z-plasty was 55.01%, alar web excision was 39.93%, and lateral V-Y advancement of the alar base was 16.38% in order. The degree of improvement of the nostril size using lateral V-Y advancement of the alar base was 55.26%. And then alar web excision was 52.72%, Millard's alar web Z-plasty was 34.86%, and Straith's alar web Z-plasty was 16.06% in order. Straith's alar web Z-plasty and Millard's alar web Z-plasty resulted in elongation of the columella, equalization of asymmetrical nostril, and enlargement of small nostrils. Alar web excision enlarged nostrils and restored symmetry. Lateral VY advancement of the alar base increased nostril width and enlarged nostrils. These results indicate that the correction of nostrils improve the shape and the symmetry of the nostrils in CLND.

  • Epiphytic diatoms are very important organisms in the seagrass ecosystem because their colonization on leaves increases microtopography and provides attachment sites that make the leaves more hospitable for other epiphytes. Epiphytic diatoms were attached to the leaves in the following 3 manners: (1) parallel to the cells of the seagrass leaf or by molding the shape of the diatom along the cell shape of the leaf; (2) with increasing diatom density toward the leaf tip; (3) Cocconeis species as attaching species than the Naviculoid species as the second attaching species on the leaf tip. In addition, the epiphytic diatom communities on Zostera marina leaves differed from those on the Zostera japonica leaves, but were very similar to the epiphytic communities on Zostera caespitosa leaves. Our results suggest that the epiphytic community on seagrass leaves varied according to the leaf shape such as leaf length and width, but the leaf cell shape or size did not influence the dynamics of the diatom communities.

  • In the present industry, three-dimensional colored shape has required for realistic prototype in rapid manufacturing. Z-corporation developed 3D printer which can color three-dimensional prototype but this process can't be adopted to other rapid prototype products and spend much time and cost coloring 3D shape. In this study a new coloring process on three-dimensional surface is proposed for realistic prototype. Three-dimensional surface coloring apparatus is composed of HP ink jet head and X-Y plotter. Distance and angle between ink jet nozzle and 3D surface are set as process parameter. Based on the experiment of process parameters, it is shown that distance and angle affected on printed image on 3D surface. Circle and line shape are chosen as standard image shape because the shape has widely used as standard in 2D printing. Consequently, the distorted image on 3D surface is corrected by transformed input image data.

  • Characteristics of twin spray ejected from two swirl spray nozzles were studied experimentally. By using a patternator for measuring volumetric flux of drop flow at various locations inside the spray, variation of the twin spray pattern along the axial direction was studied with changing the injection pressure and the distance between the nozzles. The general findings from the experiments are as follows: (i) as axial distance from the nozzles increases, the spray pattern in x-z plane which contains both nozzles changes significantly. On the other hand the spray pattern in y-z plane which passes the midpoint between two nozzles remains almost unchanged at outer region as axial distance and injection pressure vary; (ii) at the downstream of the twin spray with spray interaction, the maximum volumetric flux in y-z plane (q$_{max}$)$_{y}$, has tendency to become larger than that of x-z plane (q$_{max}$)$_{x}$, due to a characteristic(hollow cone shape) of the constituting swirl sprays, and this trend is pronounced at higher injection pressure since the cross-section of each single spray remains hollow at the longer axial distance from each nozzle with higher injection pressure; (iii) at a certain axial distance from the nozzles, the cross-sectional shape of the boundary of the twin spray tends to be circular similar to that of the single spray with twice the flow-rate, and that distance is not proportional to the distance between two nozzles; (iv) though there are some collisions between droplets from each nozzles of twin spray, in present experimental range, the flow pattern of gas including the entrainment effect plays the key role in spray interaction.n.ion.n.

  • In this paper, we proposed windmill type ultrasonic motor which has modified shape of Endcap. The motor was especially designed by FEM for high speed. As results, displacements of the windmill and the clover type motor was compared. Using clover type motor, more smooth rotation of rotor was achieved. If Z component of the displacement of the clover type motor can be applied for linear motor.

  • Domain structures of LiNbO3 crystals grown by Czochralski method were examined according to the growth axis and the rotational speed of crystals. Ring shape and split domain structures were revealed in Z-axis and Y-axis grown crystals respectively. It was found that the domain structures of grown crystals were closely related to the solid-liquid interface shape during growth.

  • Properties of ULIRGs (Ultra Luminous InfraRed Galaxies) are important to understand the cosmic star formation history. To investigate their properties up to z=0.3, we search for ULIRGs identified by using the AKARI/FIS Bright Source Catalogue and the WISE All-Sky catalog. By matching the AKARI $90{\mu}m$ catalogue with the WISE catalog, we selected 3,452 galaxies. Additionally, combined with the SDSS DR10 spectroscopic data, we selected 952 galaxies with spec-z. We then computed total infrared luminosities using SED fitting technique, and identified 31 ULIRGs, 561 LIRGs and 344 IRGs. For these galaxies, we found an indication that ULIRGs selected by AKARI change the SED shape with redshift (z = 0.1 - 0.3).

  • Discovered in the South Pole Telescope Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SPT-SZ) survey, the galaxy cluster SPT-CL J0205-5829 at z = 1.322 might be the most massive known SZ-selected galaxy cluster at z > 1.2. The SZ and X-ray combined mass estimate is $M500=(4.8{\pm}0.8){\times}10^{14}M_{\odot}$. To confirm this extreme mass, we perform weak lensing analysis of SPT-CL J0205-5829 using HST data. Our analysis produces a mass estimate consistent with the previous results obtained from non-lensing methods. In this poster, we describe details of the method including shape measurement, PSF correction, source selection, and mass estimation. We also present a two-dimensional mass map and compare this to the galaxy distribution.

  • This paper presents a novel topology named a modified capacitor-assisted Z-source inverter (MCA-ZSI) based on the traditional ZSI. The impedance network of the proposed MCA-ZSI consists of two symmetrical cells coupled with two capacitors with an X-shape structure, and each cell has two inductors, two capacitors, and one diode. Compared with other topologies based on switched ZSI with the same number of components used at impedance network, the proposed topology provides higher boost ability, lower voltage stress across inverter switching devices, and lower capacitor voltage stress. The improved performances of the proposed topology are demonstrated in the simulation and experimental results.
