  • Based on an ecological monitoring in a Korean stream (Gapyeong), Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) of nine fish species was developed for three physical habitat factors : current velocity, water depth and substrate. The species were chosen based on their abundance and frequency in the fish community of the Gapyeong stream. The Weibull model was used as the probability density function to analyze the distribution and number of each fish species according to the three identified physical factors, which showed good results. This HSI equation has advantages because it statistically expresses habitat preferences of fish species simply and clearly. From that, we can quantitatively deduce the central tendency and variation of environmental factors for fish distribution. The selected fish species showed different preferences for each habitat factor respectively. Although there are some exceptions, the distribution and abundance of individual species of nektonic fish (Zacco koreanus, Zacco platypus, Microphysogobio longidorsalis and Pungtungia herzi) were positively skewed to deep water and fine substrate while riffle-benthic fish (Koreocobitis rotundicaudata and Coreoleuciscus splendidus) were normally distributed at the shallow and coarse substrate zone. It seems that the species showing the positively skewed distribution to the current, Z. koreanus, Z. platypus, M. longidorsalis and P. herzi have adapted themselves to the fast current and have expanded their niche.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of adhesive curing timing on the direction of polymerization shrinkage of light-curing composite resin. In this study, the curing times of adhesive and composite resin were measured by differential scanning calorimeter(DSC). 28 extracted human molars were embedded in clear resin and box-type cavities were prepared. Based on DSC data, the experimental teeth were divided into 4 groups. Group 1: no bond; Group 2: late curing; Group 3: Intermediate curing; Group 4: Early curing. After treating with adhesive, the buccal cavities were filled with Z-100 hybrid composite resin and the lingual ones were filled with AEliteflo flowable composite resin. The depressions at the surface were measured by surface profilometer, then the specimens were embedded in clear resin and sectioned. Impressions were obtained and used to get epoxy resin replicas. The epoxy replicas were gold-coated and observed under SEM. Average Maximum Gap(AMG), Gap Proportion(GP), Average Marginal Index(AMI) were used to compare the shrinkage gap of each group. The results were statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis One Way ANOVA, Student-Newman-Keuls method. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Average Maximum Gap, Gap Proportion, Average Marginal Index and depression at the surface or Z-100 hybride composite resin were smaller than those of AEliteflo flowable composite resin(P<0.05). 2. When the bonding between composite resin and tooth structure was strong, the shrinkage gap was small, and depression at the surface was deep(P<0.05). 3. In the well-bonded group, light-curing composite resin shrank toward bonded cavity wall, not toward light source. The result suggested that the direction of polymerization shrinkage was affected by the quality of bonding in the dentin-resin interface. The strong was the bonding between composite resin and tooth structure, the smaller was the gap and the deeper was the depression at the surface. Then the flow to compensate the polymerization shrinkage proceeded from surface to bonded cavity wall.

  • The polarization resistance of mild steel in 0.5M hydrochloric acid has been evaluated by using impedance (Z) and linear polarization (LPR) techniques and compared to the noise resistance obtained from electrochemical noise data. The degree of localization of this general corrosion has also been discussed by evaluating localization index and power spectral density. Polarization resistance obtained by LPR technique ($28\Omega$) was higher than that obtained by impedance technique ($15\Omega$). Noise resistance ($11\Omega$) was much lower than polarization resistance measured by both of above techniques. Higher polarization resistance obtained by LPR technique is generally caused by passivation effect in the presence of scales or deposits which can introduce an increased resistance as can low conductivity electrolytes. The reason why noise resistance is lower than polarization resistance is the effect of background noise detected by using three platinum electrodes cell in 0.5M hydrochloric acid. Slope($-\beta$) of power spectral density (PSD) obtained from analysis of noise data ($-\beta$ = 3.3) was much higher than 2 which indicates mild steel corroded uniformly. Localization index (LI) calculated from statistical analysis (LI=0.08) is much lower than 1 which indicates that mild steel did not corroded locally. However, LI value is still higher than $1x10^{-3}$ and this indicates that mild steel corroded locally in microscopic point of view.

  • This article analyzed the infection characteristics of metacercariae of Metagonimus spp. (MsMc) in fish from 9 major water systems in Korea. A total of 19,568 fish in 87 species were examined over a period of 10 years (2011-2020). MsMc were detected in fish from all 44 survey areas in 9 water systems. Most of the surveyed sites showed very low and low infection levels (66.7%), while 33.3% of the areas, such as Tamjin-gang and Seomjin-gang, revealed moderate and high infection levels. High endemicity depends on the abundance of susceptible fish species, especially sweet smelt (Plecoglosus altivelis). The susceptibility index (SI) with MsMc in index fish, Zacco spp., was very low and low levels in 62.0%, moderate in 28.0%, and high in 10.0% regions. The SI was highest in the following order: Yeongam-cheon (283.8), Hoeng-cheon (192.3), Togyo-jeosuji (131.2), Deokcheon-gang (119.1), and Joyang-gang (106.3). The recent infection status of MsMc in P. altivelis was analyzed by the survey localities. In addition, except for P. altivelis, 9 fish species were highly infected with MsMc in some survey areas, including Zacco platypus, Z. koreanus, Z. temminckii, Opsariichthys uncirostris, Rhynchocypris oxycephalus, Carassius auratus, Acheilognathus rhombeus, Onchorhynchus masou, and Tribolodon hakonensis. In Korea, 74 fish species (15 families) are collectively listed as second intermediate hosts of Metagonimus spp. This review provides several novel characteristics of MsMc infection and clarifies the fish species of second intermediate host of Metagonimus spp. in this country.

  • In this study, the three sounds effects on subjects due to EEG type, and it researched to find optimal sound to increase their amenity and productivity. EEG and HRV were compared and analyzed in the environmental test room by classifying subjects into two type: A and B. The condition of the environmental test room was in temperature $31[^{\circ}C]$, relative humidity 50[RH%], air current speed 0.02[m/s] and illuminance 1000[lux] with setting up three different sounds which are U type sound, V type sound and Z type sound. The result of this study, at U type sound for A and B type, relative $M{\alpha}$ wave, relative $M{\beta}$ wave and SEF50 were revitalized. Also at Z type sound for A and B type, stress index, fatigue degree and HRT were decreased and SDNN was revitalized. Therefore U type sound is very effective to increase amenity, productivity and concentration, and Z type sound is very effective to decrease stress and fatigue degree.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a mobile-based self-management health alarm (MSHA) program for modifying obese children's lifestyle based on the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model and to test its feasibility. Methods: A methodological study for the development of the MSHA program and pilot study with a one-group pretest-posttest design for feasibility testing was conducted. The MSHA program was designed to provide obesity-related information (I), monitor daily diet and exercise, provide motivational text messages (M), and enhance healthy diet and exercise skills (B) via a mobile-based web platform. In the feasibility test, six obese children participated in the 4-week program, and the number of days per week that they achieved their goals and differences in metabolic components were assessed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: Participants successfully achieved their diet and exercise goals≥5 days per week. Body mass index (z=-1.99, p=.046), waist circumference (z=-2.20, p=.028), and triglyceride levels (z=-2.21, p=.027) significantly decreased. Conclusion: The MSHA program showed positive effects on health behaviors and metabolic syndrome risk. The program may be effective in improving metabolic syndrome in obese children by promoting self-health management behaviors.

  • The following results ale extended from P-injective rings to AP-injective rings: (1) R is left self-injective regular if and only if R is a right (resp. left) AP-injective ring such that for every finitely generated left R-module M, $_R(M/Z(M))$ is projective, where Z(M) is the left singular submodule of $_{R}M$; (2) if R is a left nonsingular left AP-injective ring such that every maximal left ideal of R is either injective or a two-sided ideal of R, then R is either left self-injective regular or strongly regular. In addition, we answer a question of Roger Yue Chi Ming [13] in the positive. Let R be a ring whose every simple singular left R-module is Y J-injective. If R is a right MI-ring whose every essential right ideal is an essential left ideal, then R is a left and right self-injective regular, left and right V-ring of bounded index.

  • A CW complex B is said to be I-trivial if there does not exist a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-map from $S^{i-1}$ to S(${\alpha}$) for any vector bundle ${\alpha}$ over B a any integer i with i > dim ${\alpha}$. In this paper, we consider the question of determining whether $\Sigma^k\mathbb{R}P^n$ is I-trivial or not, and to this question we give complete answers when k $\neq$ 1, 3, 8 and partial answers when k = 1, 3, 8. A CW complex B is I-trivial if it is "W-trivial", that is, if for every vector bundle over B, all the Stiefel-Whitney classes vanish. We find, as a result, that $\Sigma^k\mathbb{R}P^n$ is a counterexample to the converse of th statement when k = 2, 4 or 8 and n $\geq$ 2k.

  • For the calculation of population parameter and estimation of recruitment of a fish population, an application of multiple regression method was used with some statistical inferences. Then, the differences between the calculated values and the true parameters were discussed. In addition, this method criticized by applying it to the statistical data of a population of bigeye tuna, Thunnus obesus of the Indian Ocean. The method was also applied to the available data of a population of Pacific saury, Cololabis saira, to estimate its recuitments. A stock at t year and t+1 year is, $N_{0,\;t+1}=N_{0,\;t}(1-m_t)-C_t+R_{t+1}$ where $N_0$ is the initial number of fish in a given year; C, number o: fish caught; R, number of recruitment; and M, rate of natural mortality. The foregoing equation is $$\phi_{t+1}=\frac{(1-\varrho^{-z}{t+1})Z_t}{(1-\varrho^{-z}t)Z_{t+1}}-\frac{1-\varrho^{-z}t+1}{Z_{t+1}}\phi_t-a'\frac{1-\varrho^{-z}t+1}{Z_{t+1}}C_t+a'\frac{1-\varrho^{-z}t+1}{Z_{t+1}}R_{t+1}......(1)$$ where $\phi$ is CPUE; a', CPUE $(\phi)$ to average stock $(\bar{N})$ in number; Z, total mortality coefficient; and M, natural mortality coefficient. In the equation (1) , the term $(1-\varrho^{-z}t+1)/Z_{t+1}$s almost constant to the variation of effort (X) there fore coefficients $\phi$ and $C_t$, can be calculated, when R is a constant, by applying the method of multiple regression, where $\phi_{t+1}$ is a dependent variable; $\phi_t$ and $C_t$ are independent variables. The values of Mand a' are calculated from the coefficients of $\phi_t$ and $C_t$; and total mortality coefficient (Z), where Z is a'X+M. By substituting M, a', $Z_t$, and $Z_{t+1}$ to the equation (1) recruitment $(R_{t+1})$ can be calculated. In this precess $\phi$ can be substituted by index of stock in number (N'). This operational procedures of the method of multiple regression can be applicable to the data which satisfy the above assumptions, even though the data were collected from any chosen year with similar recruitments, though it were not collected from the consecutive years. Under the condition of varying effort the data with such variation can be treated effectively by this method. The calculated values of M and a' include some deviation from the population parameters. Therefore, the estimated recruitment (R) is a relative value instead of all absolute one. This method of multiple regression is also applicable to the stock density and yield in weight instead of in number. For the data of the bigeye tuna of the Indian Ocean, the values of estimated recruitment (R) calculated from the parameter which is obtained by the present multiple regression method is proportional with an identical fluctuation pattern to the values of those derived from the parameters M and a', which were calculated by Suda (1970) for the same data. Estimated recruitments of Pacific saury of the eastern coast of Korea were calculated by the present multiple regression method. Not only spring recruitment $(1965\~1974)$ but also fall recruitment $(1964\~1973)$ was found to fluctuate in accordance with the fluctuations of stock densities (CPUE) of the same spring and fall, respectively.

  • Background and Objectives : MPT is directly related to degree of glottal closure. So it is widely used in the assessment of glottal closure with unilateral vocal fold paralysis. But MPT could be influenced not only by glottal closure but also by pulmonary function. So MPT might not reflect glottal closure in UVFP with decreased pulmonary function. The purpose of the study is to evaluate usefulness of MPT and ratio of /s/ time to /z/ time before and after injection laryngoplasty in UVCP with decreased pulmonary function. Materials and Methods : This study involved 34 patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis : with decreased pulmonary function in group A (n=15) : with normal pulmonary function in group B (n=19). All patients underwent injection laryngoplasty. Paramters of perceptual analysis, acoustic analysis, aerodynamic analysis, videostroboscopy were compared between two groups. Results : Breathness and asthenic scale, G scale of perceptual analysis were significantly improved in both groups. Glottal gap index were significantly decreased after injection in both groups. In aerodynamic analysis, MPT was improved after injection laryngoplasty in both groups, but S/Z ratio was improved only in group B. In correlation analysis, /s/ time was not correlated with pulmonary function. Conclusion : S/Z ratio reflects neither the pulmonary function nor the glottal clousure properly. MPT is more useful indicator than S/Z ratio to evaluate vocal fold paralysis even with decreased pulmonary function.
