  • This study aimed to analyze the preliminary data to increase the residents' satisfaction of mixed-generation house-sharing. For this purpose, we examined the recognition and demands of different generations and compared the differences. The participants were 50 elderly and 100 young people living in Seoul. The data were analyzed using SPSS statistics. The key findings are outlined below; 1. Most of the young people in our sample got to know about the house-sharing via various routes, but this option was not well known to the elderly. The interest in living in a house-sharing situation was higher among the young people than among the elderly. The reason why people were uninterested in house-sharing was their comfort in living alone. 2. Secure personal-space privacy and the choice of a housemate were regarded as the most important considerations in house-sharing by the young and the elderly, respectively. Young people anticipated a division of housework and the elderly were worried about communication with the younger generation. 3. Expected benefits tended to be higher in economic aspects for the young and in psychological aspects for the elderly. The elderly responded that they would be willing to share the kitchen and living room with the younger generation. Young people demanded necessary living facilities such as a laundry room and a community area with the elderly. The majority of the respondents from both generations said they would be able to solve problems through communication. In conclusion, public relations are needed to increase interest in house-sharing. The elderly and young should understand its purpose and treat each other as family members, not as house owners and tenants. There should be a manager who can coordinate the residents.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to describe and compare the temporo-spatial gait characteristics of healthy young people with those of healthy elderly people. Methods: The data were collected by 40 volunteers. 20 subjects were between 20 and 31 years of age, and 20 subjects were between 65 and 84 years of age. Temporal and spatial parameters of gait were analysed for using the computerized GAITRite system. Results : The system integrates specific components of locomotion to provide a single, numerical representation of gait, the Functional Ambulation Performance score. Differences in gait characteristics between the two groups were examined using a correlated t-test(p<.05). Significant differences were observed between the groups for step length, step/extremity ratio and velocity. Young people demonstrated a significantly larger velocity, step length and step/extremity ratio than the elderly people. Conclusions: These results indicate that the GAITRite system can be useful in detecting footfall patterns and selected time and distance measurements of young and older persons. Additionaly, differences in walking velocity, step length and step/extremity ratio between old and young people may have influenced the gait characteristics measured.

In the depth perception experiment, twenty three old people and twenty two young people participated. A depth perception apparatus and a tracing one were used in the experiment. In the depth perception error, a significant difference was not detected on gender. However significant differences were detected with age and viewing distance. In the tracing error, significant difference was detected with age, also. The third experiment was push-button operation and fifteen old people participated in the experiment. As the result, operation time error was increased with the button size and the moving distance. The result of this study will be able to be considered in its user interface design to reduce the elderly's error while using a product.

  • This study focuses on an intergenerational book club with middle-aged and young people as a follow-up study on a book club with older people and young people. The book club program was designed to help people develop a reading habit and experience picture book bibliotherapy. The researcher hosted a picture book reading group between middle-aged and young participants, had individual interviews, and conducted a qualitative study to analyze research data and present implications. For middle-aged participants, the intergenerational book club was an opportunity to understand young people and their children and learn from the young people, and for young participants, it helped them understand middle-aged people and their parents and learn from the middle-aged people, allowing them to feel a sense of connection rather than a generation gap. In addition, positive effects of picture book bibliotherapy were seen while reducing stress and learning important lessons in life. The participants received help in forming a reading habit. This paper provides constructive suggestions for book clubs where different generations interact. It is hoped that through this study, intergenerational book clubs that can be used to understand other generations will be more popular and people will be able to discover the benefits of reading books including picture books and make reading a habit.

The results emphasize the positivity of organizational culture, human resource development, and the nature of work, especially organizational culture and human resource development, which are dominant reasons for young people to maintain lifelong learning. • Entrepreneurship brings countless values to each individual and practical benefits to society and the economy. Recently, the call for a better understanding of entrepreneurship from corporations and governments is regularly voiced the day, both in the academic literature and in public discussions. This study examines factors influencing the startup decision of young people in Vietnam. Primary data was collected from an online survey and then imported into an Excel file before being analyzed by SPSS 22. The total number of relevant observations for the study is 656, using numerous statistical approaches such as EFA and multiple regression analyses. This study contributes to the existing literature and current practice by suggesting six major determinants of startup intention: self-expectation, personal attitudes, self-competency, perceived feasibility, entrepreneurial orientation, and financial wealth. Among these factors, self-competency and entrepreneurial orientation are statistically significant, indicating that the capability of young people is the most important determinant of their startup intention. Additionally, the results indicate that self-expectation, attitude, perceived feasibility, and finance do not impact students' intention to pursue entrepreneurship. We suggest that by enhancing the training quality of universities, young people will be provided with much essential knowledge and technical skills for running a business.

  • Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the migration of young people to local areas. These young people are discovering and reinterpreting local resources to open local businesses while generating new value in local activities and businesses. This study was initiated with the recognition that fundamental solutions are needed for these young people to settle and sustain residence in the local area. Edward Relph stated that 'place' is a fundamental attribute that influences human existence in the world and is the source of stability and identity formation for individuals. This is deeply related to the psychology of young people who have migrated to local areas. These young people accept the unfamiliar 'space' as a 'place' to form stability and personal identity. Therefore, this study utilized PhotoVoice methodology to examine the process and key factors of place identity formation among migrant youths. As a result, the study identified factors that enable young people to settle in local areas and sustain residence while recognizing elements the local government should focus on to support and address the influx of young people. The results of this study can serve as a foundation for addressing the declining population in local areas through the formation of a relationship population and spur the inflow of young people to local cities in the future.
