Advancements in Polymer-Filler Derived Ceramics

  • Microstructure tailoring of filler loaded preceramic polymer systems offers a high potential for property improvement of Si-based ceramics and composites. Advancements in manufacturing of bulk materials by controlling microstructure evolution during thermal induced polymer-ceramic transforma-tion and polymer-filler reactions will be presented. Rate controlled pyrolysis, multilayer gradient laminate design and surface modification by gas solid reaction are demonstrated to yield ceramic components of high fractional density and superior mechanical properties. Emerging fields of applications are presented.

  • Shewhart-type control charts have historically been used for attribute data, though they have ARL biased property and even are unable to detect the improvement of a process with some process parameters. So far most efforts have been made to improve the performance of attribute control charts in terms of faster detection of special causes without increasing the rates of false alarm. In this paper, control limits are proposed that yield an ARL (nearly) unbiased chart for attributes. Optimal design is also proposed for attribute control charts under a natural sense of criterion.

  • The growth of semiconductor industry attracted to researchers like design, facility technique and making small size chip areas. But nowadays, cause of technology extension and oversupply and price down, yield improvement is the most important point on growth. This paper describes the computer mode]ing technique as the solutions to analyze the problem, to formalize the semiconductor manufacturing process and to build advanced manufacturing environments. The computer models are built referring an existing 8' wafer production line in Korea.

  • This paper deals the TFT-LCD process and quality, process control problems of the process. For improvement of the process quality and yield, we apply a data mining technique to the LCD industry. And some unique quality features of the LCD process are also described. We describe some preceding researches first and relate to the TFT-LCD process and the problems of data mining in the process. Also we tried to observe the problems which need to solve first and the features from description below hazard must be considered a quality mining in LCD industry.

  • Sorbose is an important raw material for the production of Vitamin C. As part of our endeavor to develop on improved vitamin C process, we first studied the sorbose fermentation process. Several important variables that influence the productivity of sorbose were considered and evaluated. The yield sorbose from sorbitol obtained was greater than 90%. Details of our experimental results will be discussed and a possible new approach to process improvement will be suggested for more efficient sorbose fermentation.

Ultraviolet Microscopic Study on Lignin Distribution in the Fiber Cell Wall of BCTMP

  • Bleached chemithermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) was produced from CTMP of Betula maximowicziana Regel by two staged ozone-hydrogen peroxide bleaching in order to improve the optical properties of high yield pulp. This pulp was used for the evaluation of optical properties improvement, chemical characteristics of lignin in fiber and the relationship between lignin and optical properties in fiber cell wall. Hydrogen peroxide treatment improved the brightness, but the post color number (PC No.). There was little improvement on optical properties by ozone treatment, but this could be improved more by using two staged ozone-hydrogen peroxide bleaching. The hydrogen peroxide treatment did not make any change on chemical characteristics of lignin in cell wall, but by ozone treatment, it was found that the non-aromatic conjugated structure was existed in the surface of cell wall, but this could be removed by hydrogen peroxide treatment in two staged ozone-hydrogen peroxide treatment. Therefore, the optical properties was significantly improved, due to the removal of non-aromatic conjugated structure.
