Undrained solution for cavity expansion in strength degradation and tresca soils

  • An elastic-plastic solution for cavity expansion problem considering strength degradation, undrained condition and initial anisotropic in-situ stress is established based on the Tresca yield criterion and cavity expansion theory. Assumptions of large-strain for plastic region and small-strain for elastic region are adopted, respectively. The initial in-situ stress state of natural soil mass may be anisotropic caused by consolidation history, and the strength degradation of soil mass is caused by structural damage of soil mass in the process of loading analysis (cavity expansion process). Finally, the published solutions are conducted to verify the suitability of this elastic-plastic solution, and the parametric studies are investigated in order to the significance of this study for in-situ soil test.

벼 2기작 재배를 위한 조기재배 환경에서 벼 생육 및 수량변화 (Growth and Yield in Early Seasonal Cultivation for Rice Double Cropping in Southern Korean Paddy Field)

  • 이앙시기에 따른 생존율은 이앙된 벼가 0℃이하의 저온을 경과하면 생존율이 급격하게 저하되지만, 1~2회 저온에 노출되었을 경우 생존이 가능하여 야간 저온이 0℃를 벗어나는 시기부터 조기재배 이앙이 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 이러한 결과는 손 등(1983), 정 등(2000)의 4월 15일을 벼 2기작 재배의 적정 이앙시기로 제시한 것과 비슷한 경향이었다. 벼 2기작을 위하여 조기재배용으로 육묘한 묘는 육묘일수가 길고 육묘기간을 대부분 가온된 온실 안에서 유지함에 따라 식물체가 도장하고 연약해져 이앙 후 식물체의 줄기가 부러지는 경우가 많았다. 따라서 관행 육묘상자에 파종량을 줄여서 생육을 진전시키는 것은 이앙시 뿌리 절단에 의해 이앙후 활착이 늦어지므로 저온기에 이앙을 위해서는 폿트육묘 방법이 효과적이었다. 벼 조기재배에서 육묘 이앙 후 주간의 지엽전개가 완료되기까지 생육일수와 적산온도는 관행 육묘상자로 육묘하여 이앙한 것에 비해 폿트육묘의 경우 생육기간 및 적산온도가 감소하였으나 폿트의 크기에 따른 차이는 유의하지 않았다. 폿트 육묘의 크기를 키워 벼 이앙시 생육단계를 달리한 경우 1~2일의 추가적인 생육일수 단축효과가 있었다. 이것은 이앙시 모의 생육량 차이보다 뿌리가 잘리지 않은 상태에서 빠르게 활착하여 본답 생육을 빨리 진행하는 것이 중요함을 의미한다. 출수기까지의 생육일수와 적산온도는 저온피해를 받은 이앙 시기에서 크게 증가하는 경향이었고 익산에서 4월 10일과 4월 20일의 출수기 차이는 2일 정도로 조기재배에서 이앙시기를 앞당겼을 때 생육기간은 크게 단축되지 않았다. 벼 품종별 출수기는 진부올벼가 7월 4일로 가장 빨랐고 둔내벼와는 2~3일의 출수기 차이가 있었다. 이 결과는 손양(1983)등이 밀양에서 4월 15일에 철원 36호 등 4품종을 공시하여 7월 6일~7월 18일에 출수하였던 것에 비해 2~14일 빨랐다. 저온피해가 발생하지 않는다면 진부올벼의 가장 빠른 출수기는 6월 30일 또는 7월 1일경일 것으로 추정된다. 따라서 관행 벼 육묘상자로 육묘시 6월 말 또는 7월 초에 출수하여 8월 5일경 수확하고 8월 10일 이전에 이앙하는 벼 2기작 시스템이 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 벼 폿트육묘 재배시 4월 15일 이앙된 진부올벼의 경우 5~7일 출수기가 단축되었다. 폿트육묘 재배에 의한 출수기 단축은 저온 피해를 적게 받은 경우에 효과가 컸고, 둔내벼에 비해 진부올벼의 출수기 차이가 컸다. 저온피해를 받아 생존율이 떨어지는 경우는 400 kg/10a 이하로 수량이 감소하였고, 저온에도 불구하고 잎이 고사하지 않으면 400 kg/10a 이상의 수량을 얻을 수 있었다. 이 결과는 손양(1983) 등이 4월 15일 이앙에서 얻은 400 kg/10a 전후의 수량과 비슷한 수준이었다. 4월 15일에 이앙하여 저온피해를 상대적으로 적게 받은 경우에 쌀 수량은 평균 432 kg/10a, 4월 10일 이앙에서는 375~412 kg/10a였다.

Modeling of Reinforced Concrete for Reactor Cavity Analysis under Energetic Steam Explosion Condition

  • Background: Steam explosions may occur in nuclear power plants by molten fuel-coolant interactions when the external reactor vessel cooling strategy fails. Since this phenomenon can threaten structural barriers as well as major components, extensive integrity assessment research is necessary to ensure their safety. Method: In this study, the influence of yield criteria was investigated to predict the failure of a reactor cavity under a typical postulated condition through detailed parametric finite element analyses. Further analyses using a geometrically simplified equivalent model with homogeneous concrete properties were also performed to examine its effectiveness as an alternative to the detailed reinforcement concrete model. Results: By comparing finite element analysis results such as cracking, crushing, stresses, and displacements, the Willam-Warnke model was derived for practical use, and failure criteria applicable to the reactor cavity under the severe accident condition were discussed. Conclusion: It was proved that the reactor cavity sustained its intended function as a barrier to avoid release of radioactive materials, irrespective of the different yield criteria that were adopted. In addition, from a conservative viewpoint, it seems possible to employ the simplified equivalent model to determine the damage extent and weakest points during the preliminary evaluation stage.

벼뿌리선충이 벼의 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Rice Root Nematode Population, Hirschmonniella imamuri, on Growth and Yield of Rice)

  • 벼뿌리선충(H. imamuri)의 밀도별 피해 정도와 경제적 피해 수준을 결정하고자 밀양 2003를 공시하여 폿트 시험으로 실시한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 벼의 분벽은 폿트당 선충 5,000마리 이상 접종에서 감소를 보였다. 2. 선충 접종 2개월 후부터 벼의 생육 특히 뿌리 무게에 많은 영향(40.7% 감소)을 주었으며 출수기는 6일 정도 지연되었다. 3. 선충 20,000마리 접종 폿트에서 수수, 1,000립중, 등숙비율 등이 감소되어 31.2%의 감수를 보였다. 4. 선충 접종 밀도에서는 폿트당 5,000마리 수준에서부터 생육 및 수량에 영향을 주었고, 피해한계밀도는 8월 30일에 조사한 것을 기준으로 하면 벼 뿌리 생중 30g당 1,500마리 정도로 나타났다.

X-65 배관용 재료의 손상해석 (Analysis of Gas Pipelines Damaged in X-65 Steels)

  • It is well known that pipelines have the highest capacity and are the safest and least environmentally disruptive form of transporting oil and gas. However, pipeline damages caused by both internal and external corrosion is a major concern threatening the reliability of oil and gas transportation and the soundness of pipeline structure. In this study, we estimated the expected allowable damage defect by comparing the ASTM B31G code which has been developed as the evaluation method of reliability and incident prevention of damaged pipelines based on the amount of loss due to corrosion and the yield strength of materials to a modified theory considering diverse detailed corrosional forms. Furthermore, we suggested the method that estimates the expected life span of used pipelines by utilizing the reliability method based on major variables such as, the depth and length of damage and corrosional rate affecting the life expectancy of pipelines.

Probabilistic Approach to Predicting Residual Longitudinal Strength of Damaged Double HullVLCC

  • This paper estimates the residual longitudinal strength of a damaged double hull VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) under combined vertical and horizontal bending moments using Smith's method. The damage estimated in this study occurred due to collision or grounding accidents. The effects of the randomness of the yield stress, plate thickness, extent of damage, and the combination of these three parameters on the ultimate hull girder strength were investigated. Random variables were generated by a Monte Carlo simulation and applied to the double hull VLCC described by the ISSC (International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress) 2000 report.

길들이기 과정을 고려한 변속기용 기어의 접촉피로 수명 해석 (The Contact Fatigue Life Analysis of Transmission Gear considering Running-in)

  • Surface pitting is a major failure mode for gears. The contact fatigue life analysis of transmission gear considering running-in process is presented in this paper. Surface roughness change of rolling test is used in a life analysis. Contact stresses are obtained by contact analysis of a semi-infinite solid based on the use of influence functions; the subsurface stress field is obtained using rectangular patch solutions. Mesoscopic multiaxial fatigue criterion which can yield satisfactory results for non-proportional loading is then applied to predict fatigue damage. Suitable counting method and damage rule were used to calculate the fatigue life of random loading caused by rough surface. The life analysis considering running-in is in good agreement with the experimental results.

Numerical analysis of Brazilian split test on concrete cylinder

  • The paper presents simulations of the Brazilian test using two numerical models. Both models are regularized in order to obtain results independent of discretization. The first one, called gradient damage, is refined by additional averaging equation which contains gradient terms and an internal length scale as localization limiter. In the second one, called viscoplastic consistency model, the yield function depends on the viscoplastic strain rate. In this model regularization properties are governed by the assumed strain rate. The two models are implemented in the FEAP finite element package and compared in this paper. Parameter studies of the split test are performed in order to point out the features of each model.

환경이 목조문화재에 미치는 영향에 관한 조사 (A Study on the Procedures of Investigating Environmental Influences to Wooden Cultural Property.(A critical review))

  • In order to establish the procedures for investigating environmental influences to wooden cultural property, existing study data were surveyed and necessary steps for performing the investigation works were presented to be applied for the future works in this country. Environmental factors which influence to the conservation of wooden cultural property should first be studied for items concerned with their damage situations. On basis of these data, laboratory works to yield the standard value for each factor should be conducted by means of testing samples exposed under laboratory simulated environmental conditions. Outdoor measurements may be followed for samples exposed to the open air at the site of that property. These data may be compared with those of laboratory standard value and overall evaluation for the factor influencing mostly tn the damage status of that property may further be conducted. Referring data obtained in this investigation, necessary measures to be taken for conserving that property may be able to be established.

  • For most bearings, it is a common requirement to have long durability. Especially wheel bearing fatigue life is the most important in automotive quality.
