  • Multi-Carrier Spread Spectrum communications has shown the ability of transform domain excision using the wavelet transformation to improve system performance when transmitting signals in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise and interference. In such work, the transforms were implemented using FIR filters and IIR filter. Some well-known classes of sequences, such as Pseudo noise, Walsh, Cold sequences are evaluated with respect to the basic criteria. The main objective is to implement the wavelet transform using IIR filters. This filters are well known to have sharper transition regions leading to better performance. Numerical simulation of multi-carrier spread spectrum communication systems have shown that IIR filters are better in removing the sinusoidal jammer and subsequently yield better BER performance.

  • This paper describes the need for a ductile of Fiber Reinforced Plastic(FRP) reinforcement for concrete structures. The criteria to be met by the FRP, which are based on the properties of the steel rebar it is to replace, are threefold: high initial modulus, a definite yield point and a high level of ultimate strain. It is shown that the use of a fiber architecture based design methodology facilitates the optimization of the performance of FRP through material and geometric hybrid. Ductile hybrid FRP bars were successfully fabricated at 3mm and 5mm nominal diameters using an in-line braiding and pultrusion process.

원형공을 가진 보의 응력분포와 소성역 전파거동에 관한 연구 (A study on the stress distribution and plastic area propagation in the beams with a circular hole)

  • The beams with a circular hole are often used for constructing structures. The center of the circular hole is normally located in neutral axis and the stress state around the hole due to bending moment is trivial. But the stress level around the hole due to shear force is expected to be significant especially in the case of beams made of shape steels. In this paper, the stress distributions around the circular hole of beams were presented. Using polar coordinates and generallized stress function, the formulas of stress components were derived. The aspects of plastic area propagations based on von Mises yield criteria were also shown graphically. In order to verify the formulas presented in this paper, a beam of I-shape steel with a circular hole was made and the strains around the hole were measured under various loading conditions. The experimental results were proved to coincide fairly well with the calculated values.

  • This paper first reviews various techniques proposed for automatic indexing with special emphasis placed on statistical techniques. Frequency-based statistical techniques are categorized into the following three approaches for further investigation on the basis of index term selection criteria: term frequency approach, document frequency approach, and probabilistic approach. In the experimental part of this study, Pao's technique based on the Goffman's transition region formula and Harter's 2-Poisson distribution model with a measure of the potential effectiveness of index term were tested. Experimental document collection consists of 30 agriculture-related documents written in Korean. Pao's technique did not yield good result presumably due to the difference in word usage between Korean and English. However, Harter's model holds some promise for Korean document indexing because the evaluation result from this experiment was similar to that of the Harter's.

비계 구조물의 구조해석 및 진동 특성 (Structural Analysis and Vibration Characteristics of Scaffolding Structures)

  • This paper deals with structural analysis and vibration characteristics of scaffolding structures with a hoist according to payloads. In order to analyze the vibrational and structural characteristics for 20-step scaffolding structure, structural and vibrational characteristics for 2-step scaffolding structure were compared with some experimental results. The numerical results for natural frequencies of scaffolding structures have a good agreement with experimental ones. Through the numerical analysis, firstly, it is shown that the maximum stress of scaffolding structures is lower than von-mises yield criteria when four persons with total weight of 280 kgf are working at the top of the scaffolding structures. Secondly, vibration characteristics including natural frequencies and modes for scaffolding structures are shown in case of various kinds of moving masses.

지반침하가 매설배관의 건전성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Ground Subsidence on Reliability of Buried Pipelines)

  • This paper presents the effect of varying boundary conditions such as ground subsidence, internal pressure and temperature variation for buried pipelines on failure prediction by using a failure probability model. The first order Taylor series expansion of the limit state function incorporating with von-Mises failure criteria is used in order to estimate the probability of failure mainly associated with three cases of ground subsidence. Using stresses on the buried pipelines, we estimate the probability of pipelines with von-Mises failure criterion. The effects of varying random variables such as pipe diameter, internal pressure, temperature, settlement width, load for unit length of pipelines, material yield stress and pipe thickness on the failure probability of the buried pipelines are systematically studied by using a failure probability model for the pipeline crossing ground subsidence regions which have different soil properties.

304 스테인리스강의 점소성 특성에 관한 연구 (The Rate Dependent Deformation Behavior of AISI Type 304 Stainless Steel at Room Temperature)

  • Uniaxial displacement controlled tests were performed on annealed Type 304 stainless steel at room temperature. A servo-controlled testing machine and strain measurement on the gage length were employed to measure the response to a given input. The test results exhibit that the flow stress increases nonlinearly with the strain rate and the relaxed stress at the end of the relaxation periods depends strongly on the strain rate preceding the relaxation test. The rate-dependent inelastic deformation behavior is simulated using a new unified viscoplasticity model that has the rate-dependent format of nonlinear kinematic hardening rule, which plays a key role in modeling the rate dependence of relaxation behavior. The model does not employ yield or loading/unloading criteria and consists of a flow law and the evolution laws of two tensor and one scalar-valued state variables.

Soft Combination Schemes for Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks

  • This paper investigates linear soft combination schemes for cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks. We propose two weight-setting strategies under different basic optimality criteria to improve the overall sensing performance in the network. The corresponding optimal weights are derived, which are determined by the noise power levels and the received primary user signal energies of multiple cooperative secondary users in the network. However, to obtain the instantaneous measurement of these noise power levels and primary user signal energies with high accuracy is extremely challenging. It can even be infeasible in practical implementations under a low signal-to-noise ratio regime. We therefore propose reference data matrices to scavenge the indispensable information of primary user signal energies and noise power levels for setting the proposed combining weights adaptively by keeping records of the most recent spectrum observations. Analyses and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed linear soft combination schemes outperform the conventional maximal ratio combination and equal gain combination schemes and yield significant performance improvements in spectrum sensing.

Journal of the Environmental Sciences A Study on the Operating Conditions to Eliminate Feedpipe Backmixing for Fast Competitive Reactions

  • A novel conductivity technique was developed to detect penetration depth of the vessel fluid into the feedpipe. For a given reactor geometry, critical agitator speeds were experimentally determined at the onset of feedpipe backmixing using Rushton 6 bladed disk turbine (6BD) and high efficiency axial flow type 3 bladed (HE-3) impellers. The ratio of the feedpipe velocity to the critical agitator speed ($v_f/v_t$) was constant for either laminar or turbulent feedpipe flow regimes. Compared to the results of fast competitive reaction, feedpipe backmixing had to penetrate at least one feedpipe diameter into the feedpipe to significantly influence the yield of the side product. However, higher $v_f/v_t$ than that for L/d = 0 (position at the feedpipe end) of the conductivity technique is recommended to completely eliminate feedpipe backmixing in conservative design criteria. The conductivity technique was successful in all feedpipe flow conditions of laminar, transitional and turbulent flow regimes.
