In this paper, we review a variety of state-of-the-art research on assessment of the railway track capacity. We address the three well-known methods (Yamagishi, UIC 406, and TCRP-13) with individual case study in this research field. First, we explicitly present every derivation-step of the Yamagishi equations that has been most frequently applied in the Korean railway without clear understanding for it. Further, we present a prospective application scheme of the method as an analytic assessment method. Second, we address establishing process of UIC 406 standard and its application method, which is known as the standard method in Europe. Finally, we address the method and application of TCRP-13, and present comparison between the three methods. This paper is expected to contribute for improving understand on the in-using equations and methods in practice as well as for activating application of the internationally well-used method to the Korean railway.

Staggered type self-aligned transparent-oxide-semiconductor transistors with indium-zinc-oxide as a semiconductor have studied. In this device fabrication, successive sputtering of oxide semiconductor and insulator without breaking of vacuum and without exposing in air, humidity and oxygen can be realized because oxide semiconductor is transparent. As a result of fabrication, transistor characteristics with mobility of $30cm^2/Vs$ and on-off ratio of $10^5$ could be obtained for the newly developed self-alignment device structure.

This study examines the formation and change of relational trust among Korean adolescents using indigenous psychological perspective. Among adolescents, we examine the basis of trust of their parents, friends and teacher and also their trust in people and institutions. A total of 968 adolescents (227 elementary, 284 middle school, 213 high school, and 244 university students) completed a questionnaire that contains the Relational Trust Scale developed by Kim and Park (2004a), Generalized Trust Scale developed by Yamagishi (1998) and a scale measuring trust of people and institutions (Kim, Helgesen & Ahn, 2002). The results are as follows. First, adolescents trust their parents due to their sacrifice, followed by their counsel and advice, dependability, consanguinity and respects. They trust their teachers due to their counsel and advice, followed by respect, sacrifice, and mutual trust. They trust their friends due to their advice, followed by empathy, mutual trust, dependability, friendship and sacrifice. Second, trust of their parents are highest among the elementary school students and lowest for the middle school students and lower for older age groups. The trust in teachers are highest among the elementary school students and lowest among the middle school and university students. In contrast, trust in friends increase from elementary school students to older age groups. Third, among trust in people and institutions, they are highest for parents and family and lowest for politicians and political parties. Except for trust in friends, trust of significant others and institutions (family, teachers, neighbors, company executives and politicians) is highest among the youngest age group and it decreases with older age group. Fourth, Yamagishi's generalized trust was highest among the older age groups (high school and university students). The patterns of results for relational trust and generalized trust is different and it points to the importance of understanding trust from the indigenous psychological perspective.

We present our AKARI study of massive star forming regions where a large-scale cloud-cloud collision possibly contributes to massive star formation. Our targets are Spitzer bubbles, which consist of two types of bubbles, closed and broken ones; the latter is a candidate of the objects created by cloud-cloud collisions. We performed mid- and far-infrared surface photometry toward Spitzer bubbles to obtain the relationship between the total infrared luminosity, $L_{IR}$, and the bubble radius, R. As a result, we find that $L_{IR}$ is roughly proportional to $R^{\beta}$ where ${\beta}=2.1{\pm}0.4$. Broken bubbles tend to have larger radii than closed bubbles for the same $L_{IR}$.

Vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin), which belongs to the classical cadherin family, is localized at adherens junctions exclusively in vascular endothelial cells. Biochemical and biomechanical cues regulate the VE-cadherin adhesive potential by triggering the intracellular signals. VE-cadherin-mediated cell adhesion is required for cell survival and endothelial cell deadhesion is required for vascular development. It is therefore crucial to understand how VE-cadherin-based cell adhesion is controlled. This review summarizes the inter-endothelial cell adhesions and introduces our recent advance in Rap1-regulated VE-cadherin adhesion. A further analysis of the VE-cadherin recycling system will aid the understanding of cell adhesion/deadhesion mechanisms mediated by VE-cadherin in response to extracellular stimuli during development and angiogenesis.

Previously only one species, Embolemus ruddii Westwood, 1833, of the family Embolemidae has been recorded in South Korea. As part of a recent study of this family, we newly report four species from South Korea: Embolemus hachijoensis Hirashima et Yamagishi, 1975; E. krombeini Olmi, 1996; E. sensitivus Xu, Olmi et Guglielmino, 2012; Ampulicomorpha thauma Rasnitsyn et Matveev, 1989. The genus, Ampulicomorpha Ashmead, 1893, is recorded for the first time in South Korea. Embolemus ruddii was previously recorded from South Korea because considered synonym of E. walkeri. However, in recent years the two species were separated and E. ruddii was considered absent in the far east, where on the contrary E. walkeri is present. Therefore, five species in two genera are now recognized as the South Korean embolemid fauna. A key to the South Korean Embolemidae species is provided.

An internal gelation process was adopted for the fabrication of carbon-dispersed UO$_3$ microspheres which will be fed to the fabrication for uranium nitride microsphere fuels by the carbothermic reduction. For investigating the proper process conditions, a composition range of feed solution for preparing good UO$_3$ gel spheres was firstly defined by observing the gelation behavior. Within the defined solution compositions, carbon-dispersed microspheres were prepared and carbon distribution in microspheres were observed by SEM. The results showed that production of good carbon-dispersed microspheres was possible, and the most of carbon were evenly distributed in the microspheres although large carbon-rich aggregates were sparsely existent.

Recently 3D city models are required for many applications such as urban microclimate, transportation navigation, landscape planning and visualization to name a few. The existing 3D city models mostly target on modeling buildings, but vegetation also plays an important role in the urban environment. To represent a more realistic urban environment through the 3D city model, in this research, an investigation is conducted to extract the position of trees from high resolution IKONOS imagery along with Airborne Laser Scanner data. Later, a tree growth model is introduced to simulate the growth of trees in the identified tree-positions.
