  • This paper presents a closely spaced two-element folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi array with low mutual coupling between adjacent elements. The antenna utilizes a T-junction power divider as the feeding network, with an input impedance of $50{\Omega}$. A microstrip-stub is added to the ground plane in the middle of the two elements to improve the mutual coupling characteristics. The folded dipole driver is connected to a $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line via a broadband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline transition with a quarter radial stub. A mutual coupling of less than -22 dB is measured between two folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi antennas with a center-to-center spacing of 30 mm ($0.55{\lambda}_0$ at 5.5 GHz). The proposed quasi-Yagi array yields a measured bandwidth of 4.75~6.43 GHz for the -10 dB reflection coefficient and a gain of 6.14~7.12 dBi within the bandwidth range.

  • In this paper, a new rectenna is presented for the wireless transmission of microwave power using dipole antenna (Quasi Yagi effect) and rectifier of CPS resonator structure. The dipole antenna with CPW feedline has high peak gain than a general dipole antenna. A ground plane of CPW is used to reflect a dipole as a Yagi antenna. Therefore, the new rectenna receives the RF power better than the one using general dipole. A RF-to-DC conversion efficiency of 61 % using a 1.4 $k{\Omega}$ load resistor is obtained at 5.8 GHz.

  • This paper describes the development of a broadband quasi-Yagi antenna using a folded dipole driver. The antenna is designed on a low-permittivity substrate to reduce the surface wave effect, and hence the gain can be enhanced easily by adding directors. The folded dipole driver is connected to a 50-${\Omega}$ microstripline via a simple broadband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline transition with a quarter radial stub. The key motivation for the use of a folded dipole is to increase the input impedance at the driver, allowing a smaller mismatch loss between the antenna driver and the coplanar stripline feed. The proposed antenna has a measured bandwidth of 4.67~6.26 GHz for the -10 dB reflection coefficient, and a flat gain of 4.86~5.15 dB within the bandwidth.

  • In this paper, we proposed a broadband planar Yagi-Uda dipole antenna with dual tapered balance and unblance (balun) by CPW-fed to CPS. This antenna consisted of driver, three directors, dual tapered balun and CPS-fed to CPS. The fed structure of CPW-fed to CPS had a benefit points much simpler than other planar Yagi-Uda antennas and provided design more flexibility in arranging the reflector. The proposed antenna is introduced dual tapered balun to improve the impedance matching. It balun is inserted between the CPW-ground and the CPS. The proposed antenna is exhibited the bandwidth of 4.78 GHz (1.94~6.72 GHz) (S11 < -10 dB) and the gain of 4.9~7.2 dBi within that bandwidth. This antenna will applicate wireless communication.

  • In this paper, a broadband double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna using a 4×2 meander line array structure for maintaining 8 dBi gain was studied. The 4×2 meanderline array structure consists of a unit cell in the shape of a meanderline conductor, and it was placed above the second dipole antenna of the double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna. A double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna with generally used multiple strip directors was designed on an FR4 substrate with the same size, and the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics were compared. Comparison results showed that the impedance frequency bandwidth increased by 6.3% compared to when using the multiple strip directors, the frequency bandwidth with a gain of 8 dBi or more increased by 10.1%, and average gain also slightly increased. The frequency band of the fabricated antenna for a voltage standing wave ratio less than 2 was 1.548-2.846 GHz(59.1%), and gain was measured to be more than 8 dBi in the 1.6-2.8 GHz band.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna with a V-shaped ground plane operating in dual bands including 2.45 GHz and 5 GHz wireless LAN frequency bands is studied. First, a quasi-Yagi antenna operating in the 2.45 GHz band is designed, and a V-shaped ground plane is used instead of a conventional strip ground plane to reduce the length of the antenna. A second dipole is connected to the dipole driver of the quasi-Yagi antenna for 2.45 GHz band and a director is appended for 5 GHz band operation. A prototype of the proposed dual-band antenna operating at 2.45 GHz WLAN band and 4.57-7.11 GHz band is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 40 mm by 55 mm. Fabricated antenna shows frequency bands of 2.33-2.75 GHz and 4.38-7.5 GHz for a voltage standing wave ratio less than 2. Measured gain remains more than 4 dBi in both bands.

  • In this paper, the design of a triple dipole quasi-yagi antenna operating in the 2.45 GHz and 5 GHz wireless LAN frequency bands and the 3.5 GHz WiMAX frequency band was studied. The proposed quasi-Yagi antenna consists of three dipoles connected in series with a V-shaped ground plane. The longest half-bow-tie-shaped dipole resonates in the 2.45 GHz band, whereas the medium-length dipole resonates at 3.5 GHz. The shortest dipole resonates in the 5 GHz band. By adjusting the length and width of the dipoles and the spacings between the dipoles, a triple-band directional antenna operating in the 2.45 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 5 GHz bands are designed, and fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of 45 mm × 55 mm. It was confirmed that the fabricated antenna operates in the designed triple bands of 2.32-2.57 GHz, 3.26-3.69 GHz, and 4.50-6.56 GHz for a voltage standing wave ratio less than 2. Gain is maintained above 3 dBi in the three bands.

  • In this paper, gain enhancement of a double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna using a meanderline array structure was studied. A 4×1 meanderline array structure consisting of a meanderline conductor- shaped unit cell is located above the second dipole of the double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna. It was designed to have gain over 7 dBi in the frequency range between 1.70 and 2.70 GHz in order to compare the performance with the case using a conventional strip director. As a result of comparison, the average gain of the double dipole quasi-yagi antenna with the proposed meander line array structure was larger compared to the case with the conventional strip director. A double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna using the proposed meanderline array structure was fabricated on an FR4 substrate and its characteristics were compared with the simulation results. Experiment results show that the frequency band for a VSWR less than 2 was 1.55-2.82 GHz, and the frequency band for gain over 7 dBi was measured to be 1.54-2.83 GHz. The frequency bandwidth with gain over 7 dBi increased, and average gain also slightly increased, compared to the conventional case using a strip director.

  • In this paper, a new type of Yagi-Uda antenna that operates in the terahertz frequencies is designed. The proposed Yagi-Uda antenna can obtain high input resistance of approximately $2000{\Omega}$ at the resonance frequency by using a full-wavelength dipole instead of a half-wavelength dipole as the driver element. The current leakage into the bias line was minimized by applying the photonic bandgap structure to the bias line. By designing the antenna on a thin substrate, the impedance lowering of an antenna caused by the relative dielectric constant of the substrate was prevented and the end-fire radiation pattern which is the original radiation characteristic of the Yagi-Uda antenna could be obtained. We expect that the proposed Yagi-Uda antenna can achieve increased terahertz output power by improving the impedance mismatching problem with the photomixer.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a quasi-Yagi antenna operating over a broad bandwidth covering the UHF RFID(902-928 MHz) and GNSS(1,164-1.605 MHz). The proposed antenna is composed of three elements(dipole, reflector, and director) and fed by a coplanar waveguide. To reduce its size, a balun is integrated inside the antenna, and the ends of both the dipole and reflector are bent. Broadband impedance matching was obtained by placing the director near to the dipole and loading a chip capacitor inside the antenna. The antenna, designed through simulations, was fabricated on an FR4 substrate with 0.8 mm thickness. The experiment results for the antenna characteristics agree very well with the simulation.
