Air pollution is social issue that has long-term and short-term harmful effect on the health of animals, plants, and environments. Chimneys are the primary source of air pollutants that pollute the atmosphere, so their location and type must be detected and monitored. Power plants and industrial complexes where chimneys emit air pollutants, are much less accessible and have a large site, making direct monitoring cost-inefficient and time-inefficient. As a result, research on detecting chimneys using remote sensing data has recently been conducted. In this study, YOLOv5-based chimney detection model was generated using BUAA-FFPP60 open dataset create for power plants in Hebei Province, Tianjin, and Beijing, China. To improve the detection model's performance, data split and data augmentation techniques were used, and a training strategy was developed for optimal model generation. The model's performance was confirmed using various indicators such as precision and recall, and the model's performance was finally evaluated by comparing it to existing studies using the same dataset.

Occupational safety accidents are caused by various factors, and it is difficult to predict when and why they occur, and it is directly related to the lives of workers, so the interest in safety accidents is increasing every year. Therefore, in order to reduce safety accidents at industrial fields, workers are required to wear personal protective equipment. In this paper, we proposes a method to automatically check whether workers are wearing safety helmets among the protective equipment in the industrial field. It detects whether or not the helmet is worn using YOLOv5, a computer vision-based deep learning object detection algorithm. We transfer learning the s model among Yolov5 models with different learning rates and epochs, evaluate the performance, and select the optimal model. The selected model showed a performance of 0.959 mAP.

Aiming at the development of neural network and self-driving data set, it is also an idea to improve the performance of network model to detect moving objects by dividing the data set. In Darknet network framework, the YOLOv4 (You Only Look Once v4) network model was used to train and test Udacity data set. According to 7 proportions of the Udacity data set, it was divided into three subsets including training set, validation set and test set. K-means++ algorithm was used to conduct dimensional clustering of object boxes in 7 groups. By adjusting the super parameters of YOLOv4 network for training, Optimal model parameters for 7 groups were obtained respectively. These model parameters were used to detect and compare 7 test sets respectively. The experimental results showed that YOLOv4 can effectively detect the large, medium and small moving objects represented by Truck, Car and Pedestrian in the Udacity data set. When the ratio of training set, validation set and test set is 7:1.5:1.5, the optimal model parameters of the YOLOv4 have highest detection performance. The values show mAP50 reaching 80.89%, mAP75 reaching 47.08%, and the detection speed reaching 10.56 FPS.
In this study, we propose a method to estimate the biomass of invertebrate grazers from the videos with underwater drones by using a multi-object tracking model based on deep learning. In order to detect invertebrate grazers by classes, we used YOLOv5 (You Only Look Once version 5). For biomass estimation we used DeepSORT (Deep Simple Online and real-time tracking). The performance of each model was evaluated on a workstation with a GPU accelerator. YOLOv5 averaged 0.9 or more mean Average Precision (mAP), and we confirmed it shows about 59 fps at 4 k resolution when using YOLOv5s model and DeepSORT algorithm. Applying the proposed method in the field, there was a tendency to be overestimated by about 28%, but it was confirmed that the level of error was low compared to the biomass estimation using object detection model only. A follow-up study is needed to improve the accuracy for the cases where frame images go out of focus continuously or underwater drones turn rapidly. However, should these issues be improved, it can be utilized in the production of decision support data in the field of invertebrate grazers control and monitoring in the future.

In this paper, we propose a novel traffic safety system designed to reduce pedestrian traffic accidents and enhance safety on university campuses. The system involves real-time detection of vehicle speeds in designated areas and the interaction between vehicles and pedestrians at crosswalks. Utilizing the YOLOv5s model and Deep SORT method, the system performs speed measurement and object tracking within specified zones. Second, a condition-based output system is developed for crosswalk areas using the YOLOv5s object detection model to differentiate between pedestrians and vehicles. The functionality of the system was validated in real-time operation. Our system is cost-effective, allowing installation using ordinary smartphones or surveillance cameras. It is anticipated that the system, applicable not only on university campuses but also in similar problem areas, will serve as a solution to enhance safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.

This paper proposes a computer vision and deep learning-based technique for surveillance camera system for vehicle counting as one part of parking lot management system. We applied the You Only Look Once version 2 (YOLOv2) detector and come up with a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) based on YOLOv2 with a different architecture and two models. The effectiveness of the proposed architecture is illustrated using a publicly available Udacity's self-driving-car datasets. After training and testing, our proposed architecture with new models is able to obtain 64.30% mean average precision which is a better performance compare to the original architecture (YOLOv2) that achieved only 47.89% mean average precision on the detection of car, truck, and pedestrian.

Ship detection at sea can be performed in various ways. In particular, satellites can provide wide-area surveillance, and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery can be utilized day and night and in all weather conditions. To propose an efficient ship detection method from SAR images, this study aimed to apply the You Only Look Once Version 5 (YOLOv5) model to Sentinel-1 images and to analyze the difference between individual vs. integrated models and the accuracy characteristics by polarization. YOLOv5s, which has fewer and lighter parameters, and YOLOv5x, which has more parameters but higher accuracy, were used for the performance tests (1) by dividing each polarization into HH, HV, VH, and VV, and (2) by using images from all polarizations. All four experiments showed very similar and high accuracy of 0.977 ≤ AP@0.5 ≤ 0.998. This result suggests that the polarization integration model using lightweight YOLO models can be the most effective in terms of real-time system deployment. 19,582 images were used in this experiment. However, if other SAR images, such as Capella and ICEYE, are included in addition to Sentinel-1 images, a more flexible and accurate model for ship detection can be built.

As a research hotspot, pedestrian detection has a wide range of applications in the field of computer vision in recent years. However, current pedestrian detection methods have problems such as insufficient detection accuracy and large models that are not suitable for large-scale deployment. In view of these problems mentioned above, a lightweight pedestrian detection and early warning method using a new model called you only look once (Yolov5) is proposed in this paper, which utilizing advantages of Yolov5s model to achieve accurate and fast pedestrian recognition. In addition, this paper also optimizes the loss function of the batch normalization (BN) layer. After sparsification, pruning and fine-tuning, got a lot of optimization, the size of the model on the edge of the computing power is lower equipment can be deployed. Finally, from the experimental data presented in this paper, under the training of the road pedestrian dataset that we collected and processed independently, the Yolov5s model has certain advantages in terms of precision and other indicators compared with traditional single shot multiBox detector (SSD) model and fast region-convolutional neural network (Fast R-CNN) model. After pruning and lightweight, the size of training model is greatly reduced without a significant reduction in accuracy, and the final precision reaches 87%, while the model size is reduced to 7,723 KB.
