  • The SmBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$\sub$x/ single crystals were used as seeds to induced YBCO growth in MTG process. As the result, the large bulk oriented YBCO superconductors were prepared with dimension of plane 21mm and 32mm in diameter and 10mm in height. The typical Jc value of the sample is 6.5${\times}$10$^4$A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and its flux float force is 4.6N/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The oxygen absorption in large bulk textured YBCO samples in pure oxygen was studied at several constant temperatures. It can be divided into two steps: a chemical reaction step and a diffusion step.

  • With an aim of comparison, single grain Y-Ba-Cu-O (YBCO) bulk superconductors were fabricated using a liquid infiltration growth (LIG) process and a conventional melt growth (MTG) process with top seeding. The MTG process uses an $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$(Y123) powder as a precursor, while the LIG process uses $Y_2BaCuO_5(Y211)/Ba_3Cu_5O_8(Y035)$ pre-forms. The growth of a single Y123 domain on the top seed was successful in the both processes. Different feature between the two processes is the interior microstructure regarding the critical current density ($J_c$). The LIG-processed YBCO sample showed a lower porosity, more uniform distribution of Y211 particles and the enhanced Y211 refinement compared to the conventional MTG process. The $J_c$ improvement in the LIG process is attributed to the dispersion of finer Y211 particles as well as lower porosity within the Y123 superconducting matrix.

  • This is a parameter study for the direct fabrication of a large grain YBCO bulk superconductors using Y2O3, BaCO3 and CuO powders without any grinding step. The cracks, which have been formed due to volume contraction during calcination step, have been prevented by controlling the heating rate at 930~950 ℃. It has been observed that multi-grain growth has occurred due to the dissolution of Sm123 seed due to the retention of carbon in Ba-Cu-O melt. In order to accelerate the carbon release in prior calcination heat treatment, the reduction of pellet thickness and the drilling of artificial holes have been applied. Single-grain YBCO bulk superconductor has been successfully fabricated by stacking multiple thin slab. However, the crack formation has been rather prominent for the compact with artificial holes. The use of buffer pellet, which is supposed to act as diffusion barrier, has prevented the dissolution of Sm123 seed crystal and has led to the growth of single grain of high content of carbon containing specimen.

  • This paper deals with the design and fabrication of a heater-trigger type high-Tc superconducting power supply system, and characteristics have been analyzed through experiments. The high-Tc superconducting power supply consists of two heater trigger and electric magnet, and YBCO superconducting bulk. In this experiment, 0.6T class magnet and dc 2.3A heater current are used, and the current-pumping characteristics have been analyzed with computer aided sequence control system. Hall sensors are installed on the YBCO bulk and in the center of iron core in order to analyze the effect of the flux-pumping on the system with when magnet flux changes its value. In this experiment, maximum pumping-current has been achieved to about 6.6 amps.

  • Complex oxide heterointerfaces have been extensively explored in the past due to the novel phenomenon emerging at such interfaces that differ from their individual bulk counterparts. The integration of a ferromagnetic (FM) material with the superconducting (SC) material leading to proximity effect is one of the commonly studied phenomenon in these heterostructures. In continuation, we have stabilized the FM layer La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 (LCMO) on SC material YBa2Cu3O7-${\delta}$ (YBCO) using pulsed laser deposition technique and explored the structural, magnetic, electrical and magneto-transport properties of this heterostructure. ${\Phi}$-scan measurements confirm the epitaxial nature of LCMO/YBCO heterostructure grown on single crystalline SrTiO3 substrate. The FM transition of LCMO and SC transition of YBCO are observed in the magnetization measurements of the bilayer structure. Through electrical measurements, we understood that the proximity effect leads to lowering of the SC transition of YBCO. The role of interface in the bilayer structure is also realized through electrical transport measurements.
