  • Laser heat treatment is an effective technique used to improve the tribological properties and also to increase the service life of automobile components such as camshafts, crankshatfs, lorry brake drums and gears. High power $CO_{2}$ lasers and Nd:YAG lasers are employed for localized hardening of materials and hence are of potential application in the automobile industries. The heat is conducted rapidly into the bulk of the specimen causing self-quenching to occur and the formation of matrensitic structure. In this investigation, the microstructrual features occurring in Nd:YAG laser hardening SM45C and $STD_{11}$ steel are discussed with the use of optical microscopic and scanning electron microscopic analysis. Moreover, This paper describes the optimisation of the processing parameters for maximum hardened depth of SM45C and $STD_{11}$ steel specimens of 10mm thickness by using CW Nd:YAG laser.

  • 국내 상업적으로 운용증인 경수로 원자력 발전소중, 중기발생기의 건전성 유지를 위하여 보수 유지에 많은 비용을 소비하고 있다 특히 중기발생기 전열관으로 사용되는 inconel 600 재질에 많은 문제점이 발생되었다. 전열관 파손에 대한 보수 및 방지기술은 plugging, sleeving, shot penning, Ni-plating 등이 있다. 특히 최근에 개발된 고출력 Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용한 sleeving 보수 기술이 개발되었다. Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용한 보수 방식은 미국의 WH 및 일본의 MHI 등이 선정하여 실용화 단계에 있으며, 이는 광섬유로 전송이 가능한 Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용하여 원격으로 가공할 수 있는 기술이다. 현재 한국 원자력 연구소에서는 전열관 레이저 보수 용접에 대한 개념을 확립하고 장비 및 기구를 개발하였으며, 고리 1 호기 전열관규격에(7/8") 3/4" sleeve tube를 삽입하여 약 50 m 떨어진 곳으로부터 원격 레이저 용접을 실험실적 규모로 실증 하였다.모로 실증 하였다.

  • The output characteristics of a ceramic Nd:YAC laser pumped by a fiber-coupled laser diode was investigated. An efficiency and a slope efficiency of 33.8 % and 39.3 % respectively were obtained, under an output coupler reflectance of 90.4 %. The laser power has decreased suddenly due to the thermal tensing effect more than 6 W pumping powers.

  • We fabricated a diode-side pumped high power Nd:YAG laser with a gold coated flow tube(diameter of 10mm) and three sets of 140W diode bar. The diameter of Nd:YAG rod was 6mm and its length was 130mm. We obtained 130W cw power from a linear resonator with an 11% output coupler, which corresponds to the slope efficiency of 43% and the optical efficiency of 31%. The measured beam quality factor(M$^2$) reached about 85 which is fairly large due to the large size of the rod. Thermal lensing of the rod was measured to be 5.3-7.4D/$kW_{pump}$ when the laser was operating.

  • It is introduced that pit and fissure sealant is the most universal and effective to prevent occlusal dental caries. In processing of being applied the pit and fissure sealant, the various kinds of methods are developed to remove organic matters, plaque, microflora and debris in the pit and fissure for increasing the rates of maintain the sealant. Recently, the Er:YAG laser has been used as a new enamel surface treatment method. The purpose of this thesis is compared whether that enamel surface treatment method is superior to other methods or not. 1. 100mJ 5Hz Er:YAG lased enamel surface was similar to acid-etched enamel in SEM evaluation. 2, Mechanical preparation showed decreased microleakage when compared with acid-etching only, but no significant differences in both method. 3. After laser and acid-etching method showed decreased microleakage when compared with acid-etching only.

  • Welding characteristics of austienite 304 stainless steel and SM45C using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. Laser beam welding is increasingly being used in welding of structural steels. The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. This paper describes the weld ability of SM45C carbon steel and austienite 304 stainless steel for machine structural use by Nd:YAG laser.
