  • Phylogenetic relationships of stereoid fungi were examined by comparing nuclear small subunit ribosomal RNA gene sequences. Stereoid taxa were scattered into several groups and the traditional Stereaceae proved to be polyphyletic. Srereum and Xylobolus were classified in the Stereaceae as the core group of stereoid fungi, and Amylostereum was grouped with Echinodontium of the Echinodontiaceae. Chondrostereum and Cystosrereum were clustered in the Stereaceae sensu Donk and Cymatoderma and Podoscypha in the Podoscyphaceae Reid. Columnocystis abietinum and C. ambigua were grouped with Meripilus giganteus and proved to be not included in the Chaetodermataceae sensu Nakasone. Lopharia cinerascens and L. mirabilis were grouped together but L. spadicea was unrelated to them, indicating that Lopharia is heterogeneous at a generic level.

  • The genus Stereum is consisted of species having smooth, binucleate amyloid spores, pseudocystidia and dimitic basidiocarps without clamps. There are five recorded species of Stereum in Korea. Through the specimen examination of Seoul National University Fungal Collection, five more species of Stereum, S. subtomentosum, S. peculiare, S. sanguinolentum, S. striatum and S. complicatum, were confirmed as unrecorded species to Korea. They are registered here with Korean names as well as English descriptions and a key to Korean Stereum species is attached together.

  • Fresh materials were obtained during collection trips to $Ull\check{u}ng$ Island in October, 1989, and August, 1990. Among them, some resupinate fungi were identified. Seven fungi were confirmed new in Korea and are recorded here with descriptions. They are Gloeocystidiellum karstenii, Peniophora lilacea, Phlebia cremeo-alutacea, P. deflectens, P. livida, Resinicium bicolor, and Hymenochaete corrugata.
