MICROSTRUCTURE AND ELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ELECTRODEPOSITED Zn-Ni ALLOY COATINGS

  • Electrodeposited Zn-Ni alloy coatings are of particular interest for improving the corrosion resistance of steel in a number of enviornments. Of particular interest is the relationship between composition, structure and corrosion rate. This paper firstly reviews the literature regarding composition-structure relationships of Zn-Ni electrodeposits and compares them with the equilibrium phase diagram. Secondly, research was carried out on a wide range of coatings which were produced in the laboratory and their structure and corrosion rates determined. It was found that unambiguous identification of phases from XRD data can be difficult. Maximum corrosion resistance of deposits is obtained at 12-13% Ni, with a $\gamma$ phase structure and predomination of (600) and (411) reflections. Compatibility is important with regard to chromate conversion coatings.

인공풍화가속실험을 통한 울릉도에 분포하는 화산암의 풍화특성 고찰 (Artificial Accelerated Weathering of Volcanic Rocks from Ulleungdo Island)

  • 이 연구에서는 울릉도에 분포하는 현무암질 각력암과 조면암, 화산각력암의 풍화특성을 울릉도의 기후조건을 고려하여 설계한 인공풍화가속실험을 이용하여 고찰하였다. 암석 시료는 XRF 결과를 이용하여 도시한 TAS diagram에 따라 화산암 종류를 판별하고 XRD 분석으로 조성광물을 확인한 후, 시료를 일차적으로 구분하였으며, 이차적으로 흡수율에 의해 시료의 풍화정도에 따라 구분하였다. 인공풍화가속실험 결과, 흡수율 증가는 대부분의 시료에서 발생하였으나, 화산각력암을 제외한 대부분의 시료에서는 강도 저감이 발생하지 않았다. 특히, 조면암의 초기 흡수율이 크면 인공풍화가속실험에 따른 흡수율 증가률이 더욱 증대되었으며, 화산각력암은 기타 암석보다 높은 흡수율 증가와 점하중강도 감소를 보여주고 있다. 이러한 실험 결과로 조면암의 화학적 풍화속도가 시간에 따라 가속될 수 있다는 것을 예측할 수 있고, 화학 및 물리적 풍화에 대한 저항성이 약한 화산각력암은 짧은 시간에서도 감소가 발생할 수 있다는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 따라서, 이러한 암석들이 분포하고 있는 일주도로에서는 낙석 및 산사태와 같은 자연재해에 대한 대책이 필요한 것으로 판단된다.

저항 점 용접을 이용한 AISI 316 스테인레스강과 용융아연도금 강판의 이종접합 (Resistance Spot Welding of Dissimilar Materials of Austenitic Stainless Steels and IF (Interstitial Free) Steels)

  • The spot weldability of dissimilar metal joints between stainless steels (AISI316) and interstitial free (IF) steels were investigated. This study was aimed to determine the spot welding parameters for a dissimilar metal joint and to evaluate the dissimilar metal joint's weldability, including its welding nugget shape, tensileshear strength, hardness, and microstructure. The fracture surface was investigated by using a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The experimental results showed that the shape of nugget was asymmetric, in which the fusion zone of the STS316 sheet was larger due to the higher bulk-resistance. The microstructure of the fusion zone was fully martensite. In order to evaluate the microstructure further, dilution of stainless steels were calculated and imposed onto the Schaeffler diagram. The predicted microstructure from the Schaeffler diagram was martensite. In order to confirm the predicted microstructure, XRD measurements were carried out. The results showed that that initial weld nugget was composed of austenite and martensite.

The luminescence properties of Eu3+ or Tb 3+ doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphors for X-ray imaging

  • The Tb3+ or Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor were fabricated by funace at 1500 ℃ for 12 h using a solid state reaction. The XRD (X-ray diffraction_Panalytical X'Pert Pro) and FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscope) are measured to confirm the crystalline structure and surface morphology of the phosphor. The Tb3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor emits the lights in 470~650 nm wavelength range due to transitions from 5D4 to 7Fj. Therefore, it shows the green region in the CIE chromaticity diagram under both UV and X-rays excitations. The Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor emits the lights in 550~750 nm wavelength range because of 5Di to 7Fj. The emission is confirmed to be in the red region using the CIE chromaticity diagram. The Tb3+ or Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor shows the characteristic f-f transition with a long decay time, which is about several milliseconds. They have the high efficiency of light emission for X-ray because of their high effective Z number (Zeff = 58.5) and density. Therefore, they are very much promising phosphors for X-ray imaging application in medical fields.

  • $CuIn_{1-x}-GaxSe_2$ based materials with direct bandgap and high absorption coefficient are promising materials for high efficiency hetero-junction solar cells. CIGS champion cell efficiency(19.9%, AM1.5G) is very close to polycrystalline silicon(20.3%, AM1.5G). A reduction in the price of CIGS module is required for competing with well matured silicon technology. Price reduction can be achieved by decreasing the manufacturing cost and by increasing module efficiency. Manufacturing cost is mostly dominated by capital cost. Device properties of CIGS are strongly dependent on doping, defect chemistry and structure which in turn are dependent on growth conditions. The complex chemistry of CIGS is not fully understood to optimize and scale processes. Control of the absorber grain size, structural quality, texture, composition profile in the growth direction is important to achieving reliable device performance. In the present work, CIS nanoparticles were prepared by a simple wet chemical synthesis method and their structural and optical properties were investigated. XRD patterns of as-grown nanopowders indicate CIS(Cubic), $CuSe_2$(orthorhombic) and excess selenium. Further, as-grown and annealed nanopowders were characterized by HRTEM and ICP-OES. Grain growth of the nanopowders was followed as a function of temperature using HT-XRD with overpressure of selenium. It was found that significant grain growth occurred between $300-400^{\circ}C$ accompanied by formation of ${\beta}-Cu_{2-x}Se$ at high temperature($500^{\circ}C$) consistent with Cu-Se phase diagram. The result suggests that grain growth follows VLS mechanism which would be very useful for low temperature, high quality and economic processing of CIGS based solar cells.

천연 망간 광석 탈황제의 재생 반응 특성 연구 (A Study of Regeneration Reaction for Desulfurization Sorbents using Natural Manganese Ore)

  • 석탄가스화 복합발전(IGCC)의 가스 정제 부분에 사용 가능한 비아연계 탈황제중 경제성이 우수하며 탈황성능이 우수한 천연망간광석을 탈황제의 활성성분으로 선정하였다. 본 연구에서는 이미 탈황반응이 끝난 망간계 탈황제의 재생반응특성을 열중량 분석기와 고정층 반응기로 350~55$0^{\circ}C$의 중저온 영역에서 실험하였다. 망간계 탈황제를 4%의 산소로 재생할 경우 85$0^{\circ}C$이상에서 재생 반응이 sulfation 생성반응보다 우세하게 되며, 90$0^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 완전재생 반응이 이루어진다. 중저온 영역에서는 망간의 열역학적 특성으로 인하여 sulfation 반응이 우세하게 되므로 망간산화물이 아닌 MnSO$_4$생성반응이 주물질인 반응이 일어나게 된다. 이를 개선하기 위하여 재생 가스의 조성에 암모니아와 수분을 첨가하여 황화합물이 생성되는 부반응을 억제함으로써 기존 연구와 차별성을 두었으며 XRD와 반복 황화 재생 반응에 의한 반응성 변화를 살펴봄으로써 이에 대한 검증을 해보았다.

Fe-XAl-0.3Y 합금의 고온 황화환경(Ps2=10-3Pa)에서의 부식거동 (Corrosion Behaviour of Fe-XAl-0.3Y Alloys at High Temperature Sulfidation Environment(Ps2=10-3Pa))

  • The sulfidation behaviour of Fe-XAl-0.3Y(X=5, 10, 14, 25 $wt.\%$) alloys was investigated at 1123 K in $H_2/H_{2}S$ gas atmosphere for $1\sim24$ hrs using SEM/EDX, XRD and EPMA. The weight changes of Fe-XAl-0.3Y alloys followed the parabolic rate law, Sulfidation rates of iron aluminide alloys with high Al content were one-twentieth lower than that of 5Al alloys. This is due to the formation of protective $Al_{2}O_3$ oxides on the surface of 10Al, 14Al and 25Al alloys. By calculating partial pressure of impurity oxygen contained $H_2/H_{2}S$ gas, the $Al_{2}O_3$ oxides formation could be explained using Fe-Al-S-O thermodynamic stability diagram. The sulfidation product scales of the 5Al alloy showed that thick iron sulfide scale(FeS) containing porosities formed during early stages of sulfidation. With continued sulfidation, aluminum sulfide was formed at the alloy/scale interface.

rf-sputtering을 이용한 $MgB_2$ 박막 제작 (Fabrication of $MgB_2$ Thin Films by rf-sputtering)

  • We have studied fabrication of $MgB_2$ thin film on $SrTiO_3$ (001) and r-cut $A1_2$$O_3$ substrates by rf magnetron sputtering method using and $ MgB_2$ single target and two targets of Mg and B, respectively. Based on P -T phase diagram of $MgB_2$ and vapor pressure curves of Mg and B, a three-step process was employed. B layer was deposited at the bottom to enhance the film adhesion to the substrate. Secondly, co-sputtering of Mg and B was done. Finally, Mg was sputtered on top to compensate fur the loss of Mg during annealing. Subsequently, $MgB_2$ films were in-situ annealed in various conditions. The sample fabricated using the three-step process showed $T_{c}$ of 24 K and formation of superconducting $MgB_2$ phase was confirmed by XRD spectra. In case of co-sputtering deposition, $T_{c}$ depended on annealing time and argon pressure. However, those made by single-target sputtering showed non-superconducting behavior or low transition temperature, at best.est.

Fabrication and Crystallization Behavior of BNN Thin Films by H-MOD Process

  • [ $Ba_2NaNb_5O_{15}$ ], hereafter BNN, thin films are attractive candidates for nonvolatile memory and electro-optic devices. In the present work, thin films that have different contents of Ba, Nb and Na have been prepared by H-MOD technique on silicon and Pt substrates. XRD and SEM were used to investigate the phase evolution behavior and the microstructure of the films. It was found that the films of about 500nm thick were crack-free and uniform in microstructure. Nb content strongly influenced the phase formation of the films, where unwanted phases were always formed at the stoichiometric BNN composition. However, the unwanted phases decreased with the increase of excess Nb content, and the single phase (tetragonal tungsten bronze structure) BNN thin film was obtained when the niobium content reached some point. From this study, the sub-solidus phase diagram below $850^{\circ}C$ for $BaO-Na_2O-Nb_2O_5$ ternary system is proposed.

RGB Light Emissions from ZnSe Based Nanocrystals: ZnSe, ZnSe:Cu, and ZnSe:Mn

  • RGB light emitting ZnSe based nanocrystals: ZnSe (blue), ZnSe:Cu (green) and ZnSe:Mn (red) were synthesized by capping the surface of the nanocrystals with oleic acid. The obtained nanocrystal powders were characterized by using XRD, HR-TEM, ICP-AES, FT-IR, and FT-Raman spectroscopies. The optical properties were also measured by UV/Vis and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies. The PL spectra showed broad emission peaks at 471 nm (ZnSe), 530 nm (ZnSe:Cu) and 665 nm (ZnSe:Mn), with relative PL efficiencies in the range of 0.7% to 5.1% compared to a reference organic dye standard. The measured average particle sizes from the HR-TEM images for those three nanocrystals were 4.5 nm on average, which were also supported well by the Debye-Scherrer calculations. The elemental compositions of the ZnSe based nanocrystals were determined by ICP-AES analyses. Finally, the drawn CIE diagram showed the color coordinates of (0.15, 0.16) for ZnSe, (0.22, 0.57) for ZnSe:Cu, and (0.62, 0.35) for ZnSe:Mn respectively, which were fairly well matched to that of the RGB color standards.
