Amorphous $Ge_1$_$_xMn_x$ semiconductor thin films grown by low temperature vapor deposition were annealed at various temperatures from 400 to $700^{\circ}C$ for 3 minutes in high vaccum chamber. The electrical and magnetotransport properties of as-grown and annealed samples have been studied. X-ray diffraction patterns analysis revealed that the samples still maintain amorphous state after annealling at $500^{\circ}C$ for 3 minutes and they were crystallized when annealing temperature increase to $600^{\circ}C$. Temperature dependence of resistivity measurement implied that as-grown and annealed $Ge_1$_$_xMn_x$ films have semiconductor characteristics, the increase of resistivity with annealling temperature was obseved. The $700^{\circ}C$-annealed sample exhibited negative magnetoresistance (MR) at low temperatures and the MR ratio was ${\sim}$8.5% at 10 K. The asymmetry was present in all MR curves. The anomalous Hall Effect was also observed at 250 K.
In this study, two-layer thermal barrier coatings composed of plasma sprayed 0.3mm $ZrO_2(8wt% Y_2o_3)$ ceramic coating layer and O.lmm $NiCrAlCoY_20_3$ bond coating layer on AISI 316 were investigated microstructure of the coating, oxidation of the metallic bond coating and adhesive strength to evaluate the durability of coating layer after cyclic and isothermal test at 90$0^{\circ}C$. And quantitative phase analysis of $ZrO_2(8wt% Y_2o_3)$ ceramic coating was performed as a function of thermal exposure time using XRD technique. The results showed that the amount of m - 2rO, phase in the coating was slightly increased with increasing thermal exposure time at 90$0^{\circ}C$. The c/a ratio of t' - $ZrO_2$ in the as-sprayed coating was 1.0099 and slightly increased to 1.0115 after 100 hours heat treatment. It was believed that $Y_2O_3$ in high yttria tetragonaJ(t') was transformed to low yttria tetragonaJ(t) by $Y_2O_3$ diffusion with increasing thermal exposure time. The adhesive strength was gradually decreased as thermal exposure time increased. After the isothermal test, the failure predominantly occured in ceramic coating layer. On the other hand. the specimens after cyclic thermal test were mostly failed at bond coating/ceramic coating interface. The failure was oeeured by decreasing the bond strength between bond coating and oxide scale which were formed by oxidation of the metallic elements within bond coating and by thermal stress due to thermal expansion mismatches between the oxide scale and ceramic coating.
PZT films without lower electrode were deposited on the highly doped Si(100) substrate with MgO buffer layer (Mgo/si) by RF magnetron sputtering method followed by the rapid thermal annealing at $650^{\circ}C$ . We investigated the dependences of the crystalline and electrical properties on the MgO thickness and the RTA post annealing. The PZT films on bare Si (without MgO) showed pyrochlore crystal structure while those on MgO(50 )/Si substrates showed the typical perovskite crystal structures. From SEM and AES analysis, the thickness of PZT films was about 7000 showing relatively smooth interface. The depth profiles indicated that atomic species were distributed homogeneously in the PZT/MgO/Si substrate. The dielectric constant($\varepsilon_{r}$ ) and remanent polarization(2Pr) were about 300 and $14\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$;, respectively. The leakage current was about $3.2\mu$/A$\textrm{cm}^2$.

This study analyzed the influence of folding time on the forge welded bar and hammer scale produced using the traditional refining and forge welding reproduction experiment. In the case of the forge welded bar, increasing the forging time decreased the percentage of impurities and porosity from 26.09% to 1.8%. Additionally, the hardness increased by an average of 36.88 HV. In other words, the microstructure gradually became more precise. For the hammer scale, the amount of T Fe increased with forging time. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the presence of quartz, fayalite, $w{\ddot{u}stite$, and magnetite. The amount of quartz decreased as the forging time increased. In addition, as the forging time increased, the granular $w{\ddot{u}stite$ changed into a cohesive, long, white band. The results provide information on the characteristics of the forge welded bar and hammer scale produced in the refining and forging process. This information can be used as technical data for ancient steel making processes as well as for future technological systems.

The influence of CaO addition on the crystallization temperature, crystal types, and microstructure of L-A-S ($Li_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$) glass-ceramics system fabricated from a coal bottom ash, produced at thermal power plant, was studied. The glass transition and crystallization temperatures were shifted to the higher temperature position with increasing CaO content in a non-isothermal analysis using a DTA. The major crystalline phases of L-A-S glass-ceramics system produced were identified as ${\beta}$-spodumene ($LiAlSi_2O_6$) and eucryptite ($LiAlSiO_4$). The glass-ceramics showed a bulk and surface crystallization behavior at a time. With increasing CaO content, the ${\beta}$-spodumene peak in XRD increased and some CaO-related phases were formed. The surface crystal grown from the exterior to the center in glass-ceramics showed various shapes by amount of CaO added. Some cracks were generated at the glass-ceramics containing CaO above 9 wt% due to the mismatch of thermal expansion coefficients between a ${\beta}$-spodumene and CaO-related crystal phases.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the application of oyster shells (OS) as aggregates for concrete. For this purpose, five reference mixes with W/C ratios of 0.4 ∼0.6 at intervals of 0.05 were used. The replacement proportion of OS was varied with ratios of 0, 10, 30, 50 and 100% by volume of fine or coarse aggregate in the reference mixes. OS was washed and crushed for using as aggregates. New chemical reaction between crushed OS aggregate and cement paste was tested through XRD and SEM analysis. Two strength properties (compressive and flexural) were considered. Strength tests were carried out at the ages of 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days. The variations of workability, air content and density, drying shrinkage of the specimens with different proportions of OS were also studied. Finally, the hollow concrete block using OS as a substitute material for fine aggregate was made for testing the application of OS. Experimental results showed that my new chemical reaction did not occur due to mixing OS in concrete. The workability and strengths decreased with increase in proportion of OS. The same trend was observed in density and unit weight, but air content increased due to the inherent pores in OS, which showed a possibility to produce light weight concrete with low strength by using OS as coarse aggregates for concrete. Tests on hollow concrete block showed that the compressive strength and absorption ratio were satisfied with quality requirements when the fine aggregate was substituted with OS up to 50% in volume.
The effect of preparation method on the catalytic activities of the $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts on steam reforming of ethylene glycol was investigated. The catalysts were prepared with various preparation methods such as an incipient wetness impregnation, wet impregnation, and coprecipitation method. In the case of coprecipitation method, various precipitants such as KOH, $K_2CO_3$, and $NH_4OH$ were compared. The prepared catalysts were characterized by using $N_2$ physisorption, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, temperatureprogrammed reduction, pulsed $H_2$ chemisorption, temperature-programmed oxidation, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. Among the catalysts reduced at 773 K, the $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalyst prepared by a coprecipitation with KOH or $K_2CO_3$ as precipitants showed the best catalytic performance. The preparation method affected the particle size of Ni, reducibility of nickel oxides, catalytic performance (activity and stability), and types of coke formed during the reaction. The $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalyst prepared by a coprecipitation with KOH showed the increasing catalytic activity with an increase in the reduction temperature from 773 to 1173 K because of an increase in the reduction degree of Ni oxide species even though the particle size of Ni increased with increasing reduction temperature.
Statement of problem. Titanium is the most important material for biomedical and dental implants because of their high corrosion resistance and good biocompatibility. These beneficial properties are due to a protective passive oxide film that spontaneously forms on the surface. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the responses of osteoblast-like cells on different surface treatments on Ti discs. Material and Methods. Group 1 represented the machined surface with no treatment. Group 2 surfaces were sandblasted with $50{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ under $5kgf/cm^2$ of pressure. Groups 3 and 4 were sandblasted under the same conditions. The samples were treated on a titanium oxide surface with reactive sputter depositioning and thermal oxidation at $600^{\circ}C$ (Group 3) and $800^{\circ}C$ (Group 4) for one hour in an oxygen environment. The chemical composition and microtopography were analyzed by XRD, XPS, SEM and optical interferometer. The stability of $TiO_2$ layer was studied by petentiodynamic curve. To evaluate cell response, osteoblast extracted from femoral bone marrow of young adult rat were cultured for cell attachment, proliferation and morphology on each titanium discs. Results and Conclusion. The results were as follows : 1. Surface roughness values were, from the lowest to the highest, machined group, $800^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group, $600^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group and blasted group. The Ra value of blasted group was significantly higher than that of $800^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group (P=0.003), which was not different from that of $600^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group (P<0.05). 2. The degree of cell attachment was highest in the $600^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group after four and eight hours (P<0.05), but after 24 hours, there was no difference among the groups (P>0.05). 3. The level of cell proliferation showed no difference among the groups after one day, three days, and seven days (P>0.05). 4. The morphology and arrangement of the cells varied with surface roughness of the discs.

Statement of problem: The success of implants depends on intimate and direct contact of implant material on bone tissue and on functional relationship with soft tissue contact. Creation and maintenance of osseointegration depend on the understanding of the tissue's healing, repairing, and remodeling capacity and these capacities rely on cellular behavior. Altering the surface properties can modify cellular responses such as cell adhesion, cell motility, bone deposition, Therefore, various implant surface treatment methods are being developed for the improved bone cell responses. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the responses of osteoblast-like cells to surface-modified titanium. Materials and Methods: The experiment was composed of four groups. Group 1 represented the electropolished surface. Group 2 surfaces were machined surface. Group 3 and Group 4 were anodized surfaces. Group 3 had low roughness and Group 4 had high roughness. Physicochemical properties and microstructures of the discs were examined and the responses of osteoblast-like cells to the discs were investigated. The microtopography was observed by SEM. The roughness was measured by three-dimension roughness measuring system. The microstructure was analyzed by XRD, AES. To evaluate cell responses to modified titanium surfaces, osteoblasts isolated from calvaria of neonatal rat were cultured. Cell count, morphology, total protein measurement and alkaline phosphatase activities of the cultures were examined. Results and Conclusion: The results were as follows 1. The four groups showed specific microtopography respectively. Anodized group showed grain structure with micropores. 2. Surface roughness values were, from the lowest to the highest, electropolished group, machined group, low roughness anodized group, and high roughness anodized group. 3. Highly roughened anodized group was found to have increased surface oxide thickness and surface crystallinity. 4. The morphology of cells, flattened or spherical, were different from each other. In the electropolished group and machined group, the cells were almost flattened. In two anodized groups, some cells were spherical and other cells were flattened. And the 14 day culture cells of all of the groups were nearly flattened due to confluency. 5. The number of attached cells was highest in low roughness anodized group. And the machined group had significantly lower cell count than any other groups(P<.05). 6. Total protein contents showed no difference among groups. 7. The level of alkaline phosphatase activities was higher in the anodized groups than electropolished and machined groups(P<.05).
$ThO_2-Tm_2O_3$ (TDT) solid solutions containing 1,3,5,8,10, and 15 mol% $Tm_2O_3$ were synthesized from spectroscopically pure $ThO_2$ and $Tm_2O_3$ polycrystalline powders. The TDT solid solutions were indentified to the fluorite structure by the X-ray powder technique. The values of the lattice parameter were decreased with increasing amount of $Tm_2O_3$ incorporated. But, there was no linearity for the samples containing 8, 10, and 15 mol% $Tm_2O_3$. It was concluded that these samples became incomplete solid solutions. From the intensity analyses of X-ray diffraction patterns, the residual factor was found below 0.13 even for the 15 mol% TDT system. lt was confirmed from the DTA and TGA analyses that any phase transitions did not occur under the experimental condition executed. Comparing the pycnometric density with the lattice parameter obtained from XRD, it was suggested that the predominant defect model be an oxygen vacancy.
