  • Although, a number of DBMS vendors are scrambling to extend their products to handle XML, there is a need for a lightweight, DBMS and platform-independent XML repository as well. In this paper, we describe such an XML integrated repository system, that solves the following functions : generating relational schema from XML DTDs for storage of XML documents, importing data from XML documents into relational tables, creating XML documents according to a XMLQL(XML Query Language) from data extracted from a database and synchronizing the replicated XML documents. In the XML repository systems, the efficient change detection techniques for XML documents is required to maintain the consistency of replicated XML data because the same data in the repository can be replicated between so many different XML documents. In this paper, we propose a message digest based change detection technique to maintain the consistency of replicated data between client XML documents and a XML data in XML repository systems.

  • At the present day, increasing the web service requirements, along with making XML program easy to create and manage, XML program which progress the research of related technologies enables developer the number of benefits. In order to create XML Documents which include structure that compose documents as well as data, it must have defined about DTD or XML schema that display structure of data. In this study, herewith suggest the design and implementation of method that can be automatically created XML Schema and XML Stylesheet using the web-based XML Tree.

  • Recently, there has been growing interest in streaming XML data. Much of the work on streaming XML data has been focused on efficient filtering of XML data. Such XML filtering systems deliver XML documents to interested users. The burden of extracting the XML fragments of interest from XML documents is placed on users. As a result, several evaluation techniques for streaming XML data, which only extract interested XML fragments by directly evaluating XML queries on streaming XML data, have been proposed. However, existing evaluation techniques for streaming XML data only support the restricted subset of XPath queries, and multiple queries cannot be evaluated by such evaluation techniques. In this paper, we propose XTREAM which evaluates multiple queries in conjunction with the read-once nature of streaming data. In contrast to the previous work, XTREAM supports a wide class of XPath queries including order based predicates and so on. Experimental results with real-life and synthetic XML data demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of XTREAM.

  • Nowadays, large amounts of XML documents are available in the Internet. Thus, we need to analyze them multidimensionally in the same way as relational data. In this paper, we propose a new framework for multidimensional analysis of XML documents, which we call XML-OLAP. We base XML-OLAP on XML warehouses where all fact and dimension data are stored as XML documents. We build XML cubes from XML warehouses. We propose a new OLAP language for XML cubes, which we call XML-MDX. XML-MDX statements target XML cubes and use XQuery expressions to designate measure, axis and slicer. They incorporate text mining operations for aggregating text data. We apply XML-OLAP to the United States patent XML warehouse to demonstrate multidimensional analysis of XML documents.

  • XML schema is widely used as an effective tool for organizing and validating XML data. Although W3C released XQuery and XQuery Update Facility as the standard methods for searching and updating XML data, there is no consideration about providing facilities for updating XML schema itself until now. So users can only update an XML schema file directly by using editors. However, the direct update has several problems: It cannot prevent user's illegal update; it is hard to apply to the XML schemas stored in databases, needs much time to analyze schema, and is likely to make syntactic errors. In this paper, we propose an XML schema update facility, which enables creation, deletion and modification of XML schema by using commands.

  • XML(Extensible Markup Language) is an emerging standard for data representation and exchange in e-commerce and internet-based information. However, to realize this potential, it is necessary to be able to extract structured data from XML documents and store it in a database, as well as to generate XML documents from data extracted from a database. Although many DBMS vendors are scrambling to extend their products to handle XML, there is a need for a lightweight, DBMS and platform-independent XML middleware as well. In this paper we describe such a XML2RDB middleware, that solves the following problems . generating relational schema from XML DTDs for storage of XML documents, importing data from XML documents into relational tables, creating XML documents according to a XMLQL(XML Query Language) from data extracted from a database.

  • XML-based network management, which applies XML technologies to network management, has been proposed as an alternative to existing network management. The use of XML in network management offers many advantages. However, most existing network devices are already embedded with simple network management protocol (SNMP) agents and managed by SNMP managers. For integrated network management, we present the architectures of an XML-based manager, an XML-based agent, and an XML/SNMP gateway for legacy SNMP agents. We describe our experience of developing an XML-based network management system (XNMS), XML-based agent, and an XML/SNMP gateway. We also verify the effectiveness of our XML-based agent and XML/SNMP gateway through performance tests. Our experience with developing XNMS and XML-based agents can be used as a guideline for development of XML-based management systems that fully take advantage of the strengths of XML technologies.
