Flux Growth of $CoFe_{1.9}Dy_{0.1}O_4$ Single Crystals and its Magnetic Properties

  • We studied the effect of Dy content on the magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite single crystal. The $CoFe_{1.9}Dy_{0.1}O_4$ single crystals were grown by the flux method by using $Na_2B_4O_{7.}10H_2O$ (Borax) as a solvent (flux). The black and shiny single crystals were obtained as a product. The X-ray diffraction test at room temperature confirmed the spinel cubic symmetry with lattice constant a = $8.42{\AA}$ of the single crystals. The presences of constitute elements (Co, Fe and Dy) was endorsedby EDAX analysis. The saturation magnetization (Ms) of $CoFe_{1.9}Dy_{0.1}O_4$ single crystals was measured and is found to be 72emu/g or equivalently $3.2{\mu}B$/f.u. at 300 K. The observed Ms and coercivity (Hc) is found to be lower than that of pure $CoFe_2O_4$.

  • 열증착법을 이용하여 copper(II) phthalocyane (CuPc)의 박막을 제작하였다. 기판의 예열 온도를 달리하여 제작된 CuPc의 박막은 ${\alpha}-phase$${\beta}-phase$로 구분할 수 있으며 phase에 따른 결정 구조를 관찰하기 위해 x-ray diffraction을 사용하고 peak의 위치를 관찰하였다. 또한 SEM, UV visible absorption spectra의 변화를 통해 온도에 따라 상전이가 이행해 가는 모습을 구체적으로 관측하였다. 이러한 결정 구조의 변화는 CuPc 박막의 전기전도 특성에 영향을 달리하여 유기발광 소자에 응용이 가능할 것으로 예상된다.

Changes of Silk Fibroin Molecular Weight by Plastein Reaction (Plastein反應에 의한 絹피브로인의 分子量變化)

  • Changes of silk fibroin molecular weight was studied by enzymatic proteolysis and reverse reaction of enzymatic proteolysis (plastein reaction) using chromatography, X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis methods. When the treatment of enzymatic proteolysis with $\alpha$-chymotripsin to silk fibroin solution, a precipitate of Fcp fractions was formed. And, this was dissolved in LiBr aqueous solution, the precipitate of PIFcp fractions was obtained again. Fcp and PIFcp fractions showed silk IIand silk Itype structure, respectively. Fcp fractions was about 6,900 in molecular weight, PIFcp fractions obtained by plastein reaction on the precipitate of Fcp fractions increased molecular weight to abort 15,000. The molecular weight of Fcp fractions was increased by plastein reaction, but Fcp fractions almost transited to silk I type crystal. The structure of silk I type of PIFcp fractions was steady identified by X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. As molecular weight of Fcp fractions was gradually low, PIFcp fractions was become to macromolecule little by little.

  • The molecular structure of naproxen determined by X-ray diffraction technique was refine to the final R-value geing 0.042. The compound was recrystallized from ethanol solution in monoclinic crystal system, space group $P2_1$ , with Z = 2, a = 13.375(5) $\AA$, b = 5.793(2) $\AA$, c = 7.914 $\AA$, $\beta$=93.91(3)$\AA$ and $d_{obs}$ = 1.26, $d_{calc}$ = 1.25 g/cm$^{3}$. The structure was solved by direct method and refined by block diagonal least squares procedure for 747 relfections (F .leq. 6.sigma.(F)). The molecules are connected by two intermolecular OH--O type hydrogen bonds.

  • AIN thin films have been prepared by reactive sputtering method, using facing targets sputtering system with a DC power supply which can deposit a high quality thin film and control deposition condition in all range of nitrogen. The crystallographic characteristics of AIN thin films on N$_2$/Ar ratio was investigated by alpha-step and X-ray diffraction. As a result, the AIN film deposited at the pressure ratio of the nitrogen of 30% revealed strong X-ray diffraction intensity under substrate temperature 25$^{\circ}C$ and applied current 0.4A.

  • Four novel polyurethanes were prepared from 4-{(4-hydroxyphenyl)iminomethyl} phenol by reactions with two aromatic diisocyanates, 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and toluene 2,4-diisocyanate, and two aliphatic diisocyanates, isophorone diisocyanate and hexamethylene diisocyanate. The polyurethanes formed were characterized by UV-vis, fluorescence, FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and X-ray diffraction. The polymers were semi-crystalline and all polymers were soluble in polar aprotic solvents.

  • Single crystals of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes of 4-nitrobenzoic acid have been successfully grown by gel diffusion technique. The grown crystals were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The structure of the grown crystals was elucidated using single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The title compounds $[Co(Pnba)_2(H_2O)_4]{\cdot}2H_2O$ 1 and $[Ni(Pnba)_2(H_2O)_4]{\cdot}2H_2O$ 2 where PnbaH=4-nitrobenzoic acid, crystallize in centrosymmetric triclinic space group P-1. Magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that the compounds are paramagnetic in nature. The mechanical strength of the grown crystals was determined by Vicker's microhardness studies. The ligand (4-nitrobenzoic acid) and the complexes have been screened for their biological activity against various bacteria and fungi. The activity data show that the biological activity of the complexes is higher than that of the ligand.

  • Cellulose acetate and methyl cellulose were synthesized from waste cellulose in order to make waste knit on value added highly. Crystal waste cellulose by oxidation using $HIO_4$ and then acetylation was decrystallized. A degee of crystallinity was measured by X-ray diffraction and the structure was identified by FT-IR spetroscopy, respectively. Cellulose acetate was prepared from the reaction of decrystallized cellulose with acetic acid, cone-$H_{2}SO_{4}$ and acetic anhydride. Also, structure identification by FT-IR and a degree of crystallinity by X-ray diffraction were performed. DS of the synthesized cellulose acetate was 2.8 and viscosity average molecular weight was 238,000. Also, methyl cellulose was synthesized by treating cellulose acetate with NaOH and iodomethane. DS of the synthesized methyl cellulose was 3.0. Glucose unit with three hydroxy groups was all substituted by methoxyl groups. It was identified by FT-IR spectroscopy. Also, the thermal properties of the synthesized methyl cellulose were examined by DSC. It shewed two shewed melting peaks at 22$0^{\circ}C$ and 24$0^{\circ}C$ in the 2nd scan. It proved that DS=3.0 of methyl cellulose was a thermotropic liquid crystal.

  • Crystal structure of coumarin 6 has been solved by X-ray diffraction. The crystals are triclinic, space group P-1, with a=8.823(2) ${\AA}$, b=8.898(2) ${\AA}$, c=11.025(9) ${\AA}$, ${\alpha}$=86.41(3)$^{\circ}$, ${\beta}$=85.39(3)$^{\circ}$, ${\gamma}$=76.23(3)$^{\circ}$, Mr=350.42, V=837.1(3) ${\AA}^3$, Z=2 and R=0.0516. The molecules are packed parallel to each other by weaker ${\pi}{\cdots}{\pi}$ and C-H${\cdots}{\pi}$ interactions. The detailed geometry of C-H${\cdots}{\pi}$ interactions were discussed. The hydrogen bonds and non-traditional C-H${\cdots}O$ interactions join the no-parallel molecules together. All the molecules packed wall-like with the molecular brick.

Preparation and Analysis of$LiMn_2O_4$ Cathode Material substituted Mg and Zn (Mg와 Zn이 치환된 $LiMn_2O_4$ 정극 활물질의 제조 및 특성 분석)

  • Spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ and $LiMn_{1.9}Mg_{0.05}Zn_{0.05}O_4$ powders were synthesized by solid-state method at $800^{\circ}C$ for 36h. Crystal structure and electrochemical properties were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, charge-discharge test, cyclic voltammetry and ac impedance to $LiMn_2O_4$ and $LiMn_{1.9}Mg_{0.05}Zn_{0.05}O_4/Li$. All cathode material showed spinel structure in X-ray diffraction. $LiMn_{1.9}Mg_{0.05}Zn_{0.05}O_4/Li$ cell substituted $Mg^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ showed excellent discharge capacities than other cells, which it presented about 120mAh/g at the 1st cycle and about 73mAh/g at the 250th cycle, respectively. AC impedance of $LiMn_{1.9}Mg_{0.05}Zn_{0.05}O_4/Li$ cells showed the similar resistance of about $65{\sim}110{\Omega}$ before cycling.
