Sharpness Enhancement of Tooth X-ray Images Through Elimination of Complicated Background (복잡한 배경 제거를 통한 치아 X-ray 영상의 선예도 개선)

  • To remove unnecessary background from tooth X-ray images and enhance the sharpness of tooth and gum images, image processing techniques including contrast adjustment and histogram equalization are used. The introduction of two methods for detecting the boundary of the tooth and gum region and separating the tooth and gum from the background. In both cases, the background of the tooth X-ray images could be removed as a result, improving the quality of the images. The proposed method improves MTF (Modulation Transfer Function), an image performance indicator, as a result of measuring MTF. The original image's spatial frequency ranged from 4.73 to 11.40 lp/mm at the 10% response, whereas the proposed image's spatial frequency ranged from 10.90 to 11.85 lp/mm, giving uniformly enhanced results. In contrast, tooth and gums could not be completely separated from the background using Apple's Lift subject from background function.

  • A possible cosmic X-ray background(XRB) radiation related to original antimatter is considered. If the universe is made of separating domains of antimatter and matter, the photons produced by the annihilation of electron-positron and proton-antiproton on the last scattering surface would reach us in the energy $\~$0.45 keV and $\~$60 keV respectively because of the redshift. The spectrums of X-ray radiation from annihilation are deduced and a possible observational figure is described also.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of background removing for digital self-adaptive acquisition in medical X-ray imaging. We analysis the construction of video digital acquisition system and main factors of acquired image quality, propose a more efficiency method to against background non-uniformly. With proposed method, non-uniform illumination back ground was well removed without image quality degradation.

  • Timing analysis에서 pulsar 또는 magnetar의 pulsation 측정은 background 또는 주변의 다른 source의 영향으로 매우 세밀하게 측정을 진행해야 할 수 있다. 하지만 gamma-ray 영역에서는 instrument의 낮은 imaging resolution으로 인해 likeihood 분석법을 사용하며, pulsation측정의 sensitivity를 향상시키기 위해 weighted H-test를 적용하고 있다. weighted H-test는 Instrument의 responses와 source, background의 radiational properties를 이용하여 각 photon의 probability를 계산하고 이를 weight하여 pulsation detection의 sensitivity를 향상시키는 방법으로 이번 연구를 통해 이를 X-ray에서 적용할 수 있도록 확장하였다. 이번 발표에서는 X-ray 데이터 중 상대적으로 낮은 imaging resolution을 갖는 XMM-Newton data에 weighted H-test를 적용하여 기존의 H-test와의 차이를 비교해보고, weighted H-test가 갖는 이점에 대하여 논의하고자 한다.

  • The capability to examine an X-ray image is so far a challenging task. In this work, we suggest a practical and novel algorithm based on image fusion to inspect the issues such as background noise, blurriness, or sharpness, which curbs the quality of dual-energy X-ray images. The current technology exercised for the examination of bags and baggage is "X-ray"; however, the results of the incumbent technology used show blurred and low contrast level images. This paper aims to improve the quality of X-ray images for a clearer vision of illegitimate or volatile substances. A dataset of 40 images was taken for the experiment, but for clarity, the results of only 13 images have been shown. The results were evaluated using MSE and PSNR metrics, where the average PSNR value of the proposed system compared to single X-ray images was increased by 19.3%, and the MSE value decreased by 17.3%. The results show that the proposed framework will help discern threats and the entire scanning process.

  • This paper reviews NTT Laboratories' research and development of x-ray lithography during the last ten years since the application of synchrotron orbital radiation(SOR). First, the historical background of x-ray lithograhpy research, NTT's research programs on synchrotron x-ray lithography(SOR lithography), and the current status of NTT's SOR lithography system are overviewed. Then, the key elements of SOR lithography system are reviewed, including the electron storage ring, the x-ray stepper, and the x-ray mask. Finally the appilcation of SOR lithography technology to device fabrication is reported.

An Efficient Background Modeling and Correction Method for EDXRF Spectra (EDXRF 스펙트럼을 위한 효율적인 배경 모델링과 보정 방법)

  • In energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis, the removal of the continuum on which the X-ray spectrum is superimposed is one of the most important processes, since it has a strong influence on the analysis result. The existing methods which have been used for it usually require tight constraints or prior information on the continuum. In this paper, an efficient background correction method is proposed for Energy Dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectra. The proposed method has two steps of background modeling and background correction. It is based on the basic concept which differentiates background areas from the peak areas in a spectrum and the SNIP algorithm, one of the popular methods for background removal, is used to enhance the performance. After detecting some points which belong to the background from a spectrum, its background is modeled by a curve fitting method based on them. And then the obtained background model is subtracted from the raw spectrum. The method has been shown to give better results than some of traditional methods, while working under relatively weak constraints or prior information.

  • It is possible to distinguish X-ray events from non X-ray events in proportional conters using the method of rise time discrimination (RTD). In order to subtract non X-ray background, we have developed a simple RTD circuit which will be applied to the proportional counter planned for a sounding rocket experiment. The entire circuit consists of two parts ; the rise time measurement circuit and the time to amplitude conversion circuit which includes the self-calibration mode. From the test with X-ray detecting system, we obtained that the background can be rejected more than 80% in the energy band 2∼12 keV. However we confirmed that the RDT method is not proper to be used for the energy range above 12kV.

  • Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS)는 일반적으로 널리 사용하는 X선 회절분광기로 분석하기 힘든 chemical 또는 biological system의 structural analyses에 매우 유용한 분석방법이다. 특히 세라믹이나 유전체 비정질 재료의 미세 원자 구조에 관한 정보를 얻는데는 가장 강력한 분석방법중의 하나로 알려져 있다. 현재까지 대부분의 EXAFS 실험은 방사광 가속기를 이용하여 수행하였다. 그런데 신제품 개발의 순환주기가 급속하게 단축되는 현실적인 문제에 부응하기 위하여 실험실에서 EXAFS 실험을 수행할 수 있는 system을 개발하게 되었다. 개발한 XIEES 장비는 rotating anode 형의 18kW X-ray source, Optical system, Detection system, Stepping motor control system, vacuum system, Utility 등으로 구성하였다. Optical system에서의 6개의 Johanson type monochromator를 사용하여 분석가능한 x-ray energy range를 480eV에서 41keV까지 구현하였다. 이는 산소에서 우라늄까지 분석이 가능함을 의미하는 것으로, 산화물 연구에 많이 활용할 것으로 기대한다. XIEES는 투과 및 형광 X-ray를 검출할 수 있는 기능과 X-ray에 의해 여기 되는 모든(광전자, Aiger 전자, 이차전자)들을 검출할 수 있는 기능을 갖추고 있는데 이를 Total Electron Yield 측정이라고 한다. Total Electron Yield 측정은 박막 시료와 같이 투과가 되지 않는 시료를 분석할 뿐만 아니라, 경원소 분석, 낮은 에너지에서 흡수 edge가 나타나는 L-edge 측정을 통한 전자 구조 분석 등에 유용한다. 실험실용 XIEES 장비는 방사광가속기에 비해 x-ray flux가 크게 뒤지는 문제와 Total Electron Yield를 측정하는 데 있어서 source에서 나오는 x-ray beam이 진공용기 안에서 산란되어 이차전자를 여기하고 이 이차전자들이 전자검출기에 유입되어 측정에 영향을 미치는 background 문제 등이 있다. 이 두 가지 문제를 해결하기 위하여 Capillary tube를 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 실험실용 XIEES 장비를 소개하고 이를 이용하여 Cu standard 시료에서 측정한 EXAFS 결과와 Capillary tube를 사용하여 얻은 x-ray flux 증진 및 background 제거 효과에 대해서 발표한다.
