Social awareness of mathematics and academic attitudes toward the value of mathematics education has kept changing according to the intellectual, political and religious contexts. In this article, we examine how mathematics was defined and recognized in liberal arts education of the Roman Empire and early medieval Western Europe. This study analyzes how mathematics was described in encyclopedic works written in the Roman era after the mid-second century BC and in the Western European monasteries and cathedral schools after the fifth century. Ancient Greek mathematics took a clear place in liberal arts education through encyclopedia writings and prepared a mathematics curriculum for medieval universities. I hope this study will contribute to understanding the origin and context of the mathematics curriculum of medieval universities.

This study compared the writing of Korean and Korean-Chinese adolescents using K-LIWC (Korean-Linguistic Inquiry Word Count Lee & Yoon, 2005). Three hundred ten (70 : Ulsan, Korea 90 : Yanji, and 150 : Shenyang, China) middle school students wrote a self introductory essay for unknown friends. K-LIWC yielded counts and percentages of word categories using the parts of speech of the Korean language and psychological (emotional, cognitive, sensory/perceptual, social, physical/functional and metaphysical processes) criteria. Results showed that use of pre-noun and present tense correlated with negative mood of the subjects. The writings of Korean-Chinese in Shenyang showed the most negative emotions among the three groups. This was interpreted to be a reflection of better protective factors for Korean-Chinese adolescents in Yanji compared with Shenyang.

Since the beginning of the human world, man has tried to prove his presence on the earth. Wherever he moved, he left his marks in different forms. Whether he lived in caves, in open spaces or in-built structures, he left evidence in art form, the earliest of which are the cave paintings found in various regions of the world. These transformed into open spaces where man carved and painted images and writings on rock faces and boulders. Although Pakistan provided an early home to such art forms, they have been discovered in Kashmir for the first time and will be revealed in this paper. In the present survey, a great number of rock art sites were found and documented in detail. These rock art sites display the earliest communities who settled down or traveled through the region, highlighting their thoughts, beliefs and practices. The tentative chronology of these rock art sites ranges from Neolithic to Hindu periods, creating an interesting mosaic in the historic profile of Kashmir.

This research's purpose is to investigate follows. 1. How do middle school teachers recognize the mathematical communication globally? 2. If we classify the modes of mathematical communication as written, spoken, graphic and active ones, how much do teachers use them and how do the students' communication ability come as teachers judge? 3. What are teachers' thinking, the present condition and the future indication for the application of mathematical communication with computer? 4. Do teachers evaluate their students' communication ability? If then, what is the assessment rubric of student's communication ability? The results are analyzed by frequency analysis including percentile and free writings are arranged by similar responses. The result of this study is that global recognition for mathematical communication, current state for students' concrete performance of mathematical communication, and assessment of mathematical communication & proposals are very lacking.

Hanji is a traditional Korean handmade paper, which has been known in ancient Far East as excellent quality calligraphic paper for more than 1,500 year. Hanji is mostly made of Korean paper mulberry bast fibers, and if properly processed, normally lasts for more than 1,000 years with significant strength and still recognizable calligraphic writings or drawings on it. Dochim is a special way of Hanji calendering process, but is turned out to be quite different from modern calendering (machine calendering) in several aspects. In Dochim process, mechanical impacts were applied vertically to the surface of papers. Compared to the modern calendering, Dochim increased paper gloss much more, but paper smoothness a little less. By the Dochim process, densification occurred and the degree of densification was more sensitive to the fiber type in the Dochim process than in the calendering method.

When [Chosun gunchukdan (Korean Architects Group) has operated in just after Liberation, and analysis their magazine [Chosun gunchuk], they taken the middle the road position. But in spite of continuing the arcitetural operatuon in southern Korea after establishing government, they had the character of progressives in itself. Specially in term of architetural history, architecture and sociaty, problam of dwelling, they had progressives consideravely. And not point of left-right view, there had been the writings of the racial view consideravely. But as coming establishing government, there were disappeared the progressives gradually.

Chang Hyon-Gwang(1554-1637) compared the relationship between Ipam and the 28 places with that of the Polestar and 28 constellations. And he considered the ipam to be the core of the universe. This paper aims to identify the meaning of christening to the places for him. I analyzed contents of Chang's , and which preserved the traditional view of the site and writings. As a result, christening to the natural places mean that promote the environment for housing. It is a architecture by itself.

This article aims at bibliographical analysis of the . The summary of this study is as follows: 1) Through the investigation of the related historical records. Recently, Nand flash memory is widely used for digital equipments and its capacity and performance are rapidly improving. The limit on the number of writings and readings to/from Nand flash memory does not guarantee the integrity of its data. Therefore, ECC algorithm should be applied to the Nand flash controller. To reduce the access time, we use the look-up table to implement the ECC algorithm instead of the conventional logic gates.

EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) classes are now accepted policy at Korean universities, yet students often struggle with required academic English writings. The present study examined an EMI class that used direct instruction and access to online assistive English writing software. From preliminary analysis, 26 students expressed interest in how an EMI academic writing class could facilitate improved English writing skills. Study participants completed a survey on self-efficacy and learning needs and assignments for an EMI academic writing class. To establish inter-rater reliability, three trained raters assessed the written essays of students prior to and after instructional intervention. Fleiss' Kappas statistics showed moderate reliability. Students' opinions on the use of online software were also analysed. Paired t-test was run on the quality of students' pre- and post-instruction assignments, and there was significant difference in the rated scores. Self-efficacy was found to have moderate positive association with improved post-essay writing scores.
