  • Previous studies about lying were mainly executed in pressure situations, such as interviews or crime statements, which made people stressed. This study analyzed deceptive and non-deceptive writings in non-pressure situation through K-LIWC program, in which lies are rarely disclosed and hardly damage the liar even upon disclosure, Also, we compared these results with existing studies on lying. On both writing tasks, there were fewer first-person singular pronouns in deceptive writings than in the non-deceptive writings. The variables indicating cognitive complexity were less used by deceptive writings than by non-deceptive writings in first topic, but in the second topic, more were used by deceptive writings than true writings. In particular, previous studies claim that lies contain more negative emotional words while this report shows that lies in non-pressure situations contains more positive and fewer negative emotional words compared to truth. This finding implies that a situation influences the liar's psychological statement, which changes the contents of the lie.

  • Writings of gifted students were classified by the writing analysis protocol built on the scientific inquiry process and writings of scientific journals. These writings were classified 7 types based on the existence of tentative explanations and types of conclusion. In addition the writings were classified by linear form, double linear form, supporting-conclusion form based on the number and position of writings. The characteristics of writings show that, first, the tentative explanation is located at the beginning and the drawing conclusion at the end of articles. Secondly, students prefer the linear form writing to explain their logics. Finally, supporting-conclusion writings are shown when answers of question is written only in the drawing conclusion without estimation.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the degree of argumentation structure development and factors of development of preservice teachers through SSI related argumentative writings. The study was conducted with 16 preservice teachers that students taking elementary science education theory class in K university located in Chungbuk. The testees wrote six SSI related argumentative writings (once a week), and we examined the degree of argumentation structure development and the change in the recognition of SSI of the preservice teachers by comparing the writings before and after the experiments. The experimental results showed that argumentation structure of the preservice teachers'writings improved and argument level (argument capability) of them also increased as the number of writing was increased. Factors that affect the argumentation structure improvement are mainly argumentation structure education, a number of writings, feedbacks, and subjects related to SSI. In this aspect, the argumentative writing on SSI has the effect of developing scientific sophistication and enhancing the decision-making power of students, and it has positive impacts in science education.

  • The purpose of this research is to know the scientific reasoning ability of elementary students. In order to find it, 320 elementary students wrote a report about germination of the 700 or 2,000 years old seeds. Their writings were analyzed by scientific writing analysis frameworks, Scientific Reasoning Types and Scientific Reasoning Level Criteria developed by Lim (2018). Minto Pyramid Principles was used to show statements and relations of statements related to scientific reasoning. This paper showed scientific reasoning statements of elementary students about germination of seeds. The characteristics of scientific reasoning of elementary students were as follows. In the process of logical writing by the types of scientific reasoning, many students showed various characteristics and different levels. In the writings based on inductive reasoning, they did not distinguish between common features and differences of cases, and did not derive the rules based on common features and differences of the cases. In the writings based on deductive reasoning, there were cases where the major premise corresponding to the principle or rule was omitted and only the phenomenon was described, or the rule was presented but not connected with the case. In the writings based on abductive reasoning, the ability to selectively use the background knowledge related to the question situation was not sufficient, and borrowing of similar background knowledge, which was commonly used in other situations, was very rare.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine writing characteristics of scientifically gifted students about biological sciences. To do this study, we analysed their scientific writings related to biological sciences, which were written by scientifically gifted students of 16 groups (20 males and 20 females). They were being taught in the Science Education Institute for the Gifted adjacent for University. Scientific writings related to biological sciences were analysed through categories such as biotechnology, bioethics, sciences in a life, and human health and disease. Scientifically gifted students were lacking in the ability to construct writings and to logically express own contentions according to writings of them. Writings related to biotechnology and bioehics of biological sciences were not better than ones related to sciences in a life, and human health and disease. The results of this study suggested that it should be necessary to develop gifted educational programs to strengthen the scientific writing ability. Especially, scientifically gifted students need to be provided with educational contents about biological issues related to bioethics and biotechnology.

  • The writing styles of TIME and Newsweek are analyzed using a specially developed linguistic program. These two news magazines were chosen because of their wide popularity. As for the results, it became obvious that both the frequency curve of words and that of characters have not changed for the past 60 years. Also, we have found that the frequency curves have some inflection points and that the genre of English writings can be identified by these points. After counting the percentage of required vocabulary for junior high school students and high school students in English writings, we can derive the relative difficulties of them using fuzzy reasoning. Fuzzy rules are constructed using features of the characteristic curves. We feel it would be a good guide index when selecting textbooks or supplementary readers.

  • The early years of the twentieth century introduced Vietnam, then a French colony, to feminism, which helped expose the problem of suicide among women, prostitution, and the trafficking. This article surveyed writings in three influential newspapers published for and by women, namely, "Phụ Nữ Tân Văn" (PNTV) (Woman's Newspaper) 1929-1934,"Phụ nữ Thời Đàm" (PNTĐ) (Women's Discussions on Topical Questions) 1930-1934, and "Đàn Bà"(ĐB) (Women) 1939-1945. The writings were analyzed to illustrate how feminism was perpetrated in this period, and how the writers were able to reconcile it with prevalent Confucianism, which this paper also argued as having put in place, gender inequality.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of handwriting on the writing assessment, according to whether the handwriting is excellent or bad. Methods: A total of 24 elementary and middle school teachers participated in this study and assessed 6 original writings and 6 transcriptions of the same original writings using the HWP 2007 program. Six writings were collected from elementary students of 4th to 6th grades, 3 of 6 students presented with excellent handwriting and 3 of 6 with bad handwriting. The assessments were done according to the standards of propositional knowledge assessment (You & Jeong, 2008). Results: In the excellent handwritings, the rules of orthography and the contents of introduction of the original writings were scored higher than those in the transcriptions. The difference between transcription and original writing showed minus scores in original writing assessments and plus scores in transcription assessments. In the propositional knowledge score and its subscales scores - content knowledge, text knowledge, language knowledge and text context knowledge -, were differences in transcription assessments significantly higher than those in original writing assessments. Several assessment indices - clarity of the ending, contents of introduction, appropriate contents, rules of orthography, structured composition and various vocabularies showed significantly higher differences in transcription assessments than those in original writing assessments. Conclusions: The excellent handwriting could be assessed high and the bad handwriting could be assessed low. These results suggest that we should consider the effects of handwriting factors on the results of writing assessment and that the transcription could be used for an accurate writing assessment.
