Purpose: This study was to observe the effect of "herbal decoction for sitz bath" on dermoepidermal recovery to wound tissue in rat's skin. Methods: The samples were assigned to 3 groups: control group : without any treatment, positive control group : potarose 10% solution, experiment group : herbal decoction for sitz bath. We made the open wound of $2{\times}2cm^2$ size that cut deep into the dermis. Treating the open wound for 17 days, we observed the size of the wound diminishing. On 17th days, the cell viability was measured by MTT assay. The effect anti-inflammatory and dermoepidermal recovery were examined by H&E staining, immunohystochemical staining for MIP-2, FGF. Results: The experiment group showed more recovery from the open wound comparing the control group and the positive control group on 10th days after wounding. But there was not remarkable difference between the experiment and positive control group after 17th days post-wounding. The number of MIP-2 positive reacted cell were significantly decreased and that of FGF positive reacted cell were significantly increased than positive control group at 17th days. Conclusion: According to these results, we finally concluded that "herbal decoction for sitz bath" could be effective in recovery to wound tissue.

Light can be divided into ultraviolet rays, visible rays, and infrared rays depending on the wavelengths. Visible rays with specific wavelength are those predominantly used for would treatment. Especially low level laser irradiates into cells, effectively stimulating cellular tissues and activating cellular function. This study was intended to verify the effect of white LED irradiation therapy on wound recovery in animal tests by applying white LED irradiator, which was independently designed and developed to emit beams of similar wavelength to that of a laser. The designed LED Irradiator was used to find out how white LED light source affected the skin wound of SD-Rat(Sprague-Dawley Rat). We divided the participants into two groups; white LED irradiation group which was irradiated 1 hour a day for 9 consecutive days, and none irradiation group. The results showed that the study group had lower incidence of inflammation and faster recovery, compared with the control group.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify and investigate the therapeutic effects of low-level laser (LLL) combined with a light-emitting diode (LED) on post-operative wound healing and functional recovery after hand orthopedic surgery. Methods: The study subjects were twenty patients who had passed the acute inflammatory phase after hand orthopedic surgery and were assigned equally to an experimental or a control group. Phototherapy was administered three times weekly for two weeks. Changes in wound length, edema, pain, and hand function were measured. Results: Significant differences in wound length, edema, pain, and hand function were observed between the experimental and control groups (p<0.05). However, no significant intergroup difference was observed (p>0.05). Nonetheless, a comparison of results showed changes in the experiment group over the two-week study period were significantly greater than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings show that combined LLL plus LED phototherapy positively influences post-operative hand rehabilitation.

In the field of tissue engineering and reconstruction, the development of efficient biomaterial is in high demand to achieve uncomplicated wound healing. Chronic wounds and excessive scarring are the major complications of tissue repair and, as this inadequate healing continues to increase, novel therapies and treatments for dysfunctional skin repair and reconstruction are important. This paper reviews the various aspects of the complications related to wound healing and focuses on chitosan because of its unique function in accelerating wound healing. The proliferation of keratinocytes is essential for wound closure, and adipose-derived stem cells play a significant role in wound healing. Thus, chitosan in combination with keratinocytes and adipose-derived stem cells may act as a vehicle for delivering cells, which would increase the proliferation of keratinocytes and help complete recovery from injuries.

We present a case of a near total amputation at the distal tibial level, in which the patient emphatically wanted to save the leg. The anterior and posterior tibial nerves were intact, indicating a high possibility of sensory recovery after revascularization. The patient had open fractures at the tibia and fibula, but no bone shortening was performed. The posterior tibial vessels were reconstructed with an interposition saphenous vein graft from the contralateral side and a usable anterior tibial artery graft from the undamaged ipsilateral distal portions. The skin and soft tissue defects were covered using a subatmospheric pressure system for demarcating the wound, and a latissimus dorsi myocutaneous free flap for definite coverage of the wound. At 6 months after surgery, the patient was ambulatory without requiring additional procedures. Replantation without bone shortening, with use of vessel grafts and temporary coverage of the wound with subatmospheric pressure dressings before definite coverage, can shorten recovery time.

To limit fault current in a power system, superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) using high temperature superconducting (HTS) coils have been developed by many research groups so far. Non-inductive winding of HTS coils used for SFCLs can be classified into solenoid winding and pancake winding. Each of winding is expected to have different quench and recovery characteristics because the structure of solenoid winding differs from pancake winding's. Therefore it is important to the SFCLs application to investigate characteristics of each winding. In this paper, we deal with quench and recovery characteristics of four kinds of winding : solenoid winding, pancake winding without spacers, and with spacers of 2 and 4 mm thickness. In order to obtain quench and recovery parameters of coils, short circuit tests were performed in liquid nitrogen.

Wound healing is the restoration in injured skin tissue and one of the most important therapeutic targets. The process consists of inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. There have been reported multiple factors that accelerate and delay wound healing. In this study we tested the hypothesis that Sophorae Radix extract would improve the recovery of wound healing after full-thickness skin wound in rats. Twenty young male Sprague-Dawley rats were used for the studies. A full-thickness skin wound was made on the dorsal skin of the rats. Either Sophorae Radix water extract (SR) or saline (Control) was orally administrated every day. The wound area was measured and the percentages of wound contraction, wound healed and wound epithelization were evaluated. After 15 days, the skin tissues were excised and examined by histopathological and immunohistochemistrical method. In results, wound area in SR group was significantly decreased to compared with Control. SR group showed the significant enhancements in the percentages of wound contraction, wound healed and wound epithelization. Histopathological examination revealed that SR induces neo-vascularization potential in wound healing process. SR treatment in rats significantly accelerated cutaneous wound healing in the angiogenesis process by increasing VEGF and TGF-${\beta}1$ synthesis. These results suggest that Sophorae Radix enhance skin wound repair by increasing the angiogenic agents such as VEGF and TGF-${\beta}1$.
Purpose : To compare the skin damage recovery efficacy of natural Angelicae Gigantis Radix extract (N-AGR) and cultivated A. Gigantis Radix extract (C-AGR). Through this, we confirmed whether the quality standards of herbal medicines recorded in the classic books make a difference in the experimental efficacy using epithelial cells. Methods : The quality standards of medicinal herbs in the classic books and the cultivation and processing conditions of two types of A. gigas were compared. After inducing oxidative stress with H2O2, cytoprotective property of N-AGR and C-AGR were evaluated through cell viability. Additionally, after wound formation of epithelial JB6 cells, N-AGR and C-AGR were treated to evaluate wound healing efficacy. Result : The natural A, gigas met the excellent quality standards of the classic books. N-AGR inhibited cell death by oxidative stress induced by H2O2, and was superior to C-AGR. Both N-AGR and C-AGR showed dose-dependent wound healing efficacy, but N-AGR was significantly superior to C-AGR. Conclusions : Through the oxidative stress of skin and skin wound healing efficacy experiments using epithelial cells, natural A. gigas showed superior efficacy compared to cultivated A. gigas.
Polysaccharide-based dressings have increasingly become viable alternatives to somewhat less biocompatible and often problematic cotton or viscose gauzes traditionally used for wound dressings. Polysaccharide which is particularly abundunt in Agaricus blazei Murill is known as the bioactive materials. Polysaccharide extracted from Agaricus blazei Murill enhances the recovery of the damaged epidermal tissue and the production of epithelial cell growth factors which are necessary to heal the burn and wound on the epidermal tissue. In this study, the biopolymer delivery system of polysaccharide extracted from Agaricus blazei Murill into epidermal tissue was elucidated using the skin permeating enhancer in vitro. The enhancing effects of various penetration enhancers and some other enhancers on the permeation of ${\beta}-glucan$ were evaluated using Franz diffusion cell. Permeation of polysaccharide in nomal and burn skin was compared. Polysaccharide was studied for the burn and wound healing activity in the epidermal tissue on rats.
