Paternal Behaviors and Adolescents' Academic Motivation at Low, Moderate, and High Levels of Students' Achievement in Mainland China

  • The purpose of this study was to examine group differences in paternal behaviors (i.e., paternal connection, paternal punitiveness, and paternal knowledge) within and across three academic achievement levels-low, moderate, and high, and to explore the effects of paternal behaviors on the academic motivation of Chinese adolescents within these three achievement groups. Analyses of variance (ANOVAs) indicated that adolescents with low achievement perceived their fathers as more punitive than teens with moderate and high academic achievement. Regression analyses also revealed that paternal punitiveness (negative) and paternal knowledge (positive) were significant predictors of academic motivation for teens with low levels of academic achievement; while paternal punitiveness was a significant negative predictor of academic motivation among adolescents with moderate achievement. In contrast, for adolescents with high achievement, paternal connection was a positive significant predictor of academic motivation. The present findings provide some evidence that the impact of parental behaviors on teen's motivation varies across adolescent academic achievement levels, which may prove useful for professionals working with fathers to help target the most effective parenting behaviors to foster academic motivation.

The Relationships among Knowledge, Information Seeking Behavior, and Willingness for Education about Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in the Middle or High School Teachers (중·고등학교 보건교사의 자궁경부암 예방백신에 대한 지식과 암 정보추구행위 및 교육의지)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among knowledge, cancer information seeking behavior, and Willingness for education about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among school teachers. Methods: The subjects were 135 teachers who had were working in the middle or high school in Korea. Data were collected by a self-report questionnaire, 2011. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. Results: There was a positive relationship between information seeking behavior and Willingness for education about HPV vaccination. There were differences in Willingness for education according to necessity of HPV vaccination for premarital women above 16-year old and marital women below 45-year old, and necessity of education for students. The Willingness for education were predicted by information seeking behavior, groups who HPV vaccination is necessary to premarital women above 16-year old, and HPV vaccination education for student is necessary. These variables explained 25.0% of the variance of the Willingness for education about HPV vaccination. Conclusion: The Willingness for education about HPV vaccination among middle or high school teachers could be improved by the emphasis of the preception that HPV vaccination is necessary to middle or high school students and is related to the prevention of cervical cancer.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) of irregular shaped sheet metal product for blanking or piercing and bending operation. An approach to the system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated form plasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. This system has been written in AutoLIST on the AutoCAD and in customer tool kit on the SmartCAM with a personal computer and is composed of nine modules. the system is designed by considering several factors, such as material and thickness of product, complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, diameter and material of a wire, and availability of press. This system is capable of unfolding a formed sheet metal to give flat pattern and automatically account for the adjustment of bending allowances to match tooling requirements by checking dimensions and generating NC data automatically according to drawings of die-layout module. Results carried out in each module will provide efficiencies to the designer and the manufacture of blanking or piercing and bending die in this field.

Pain Management Survey of Psychiatric Unit Nurses (정신과 근무하는 간호사의 통증관리 지식 및 태도에 대한 조사)

  • Purpose: This study was intended to measure the knowledge and attitudes of nurses working in a psychiatric ward regarding the subject of pain. Methods: In this descriptive study, data were collected in psychiatric wards(or hospitals) located in the Kyungnam and Kyungpook area from December 2013 to January 2014, using a modified version of the McCaffrey and Pasero Clinical Manual Survey Regarding Pain. The content of the survey follows a logical progression from common pain management problems through mechanisms of pain, assessment and pharmacology. Results: The average score of knowledge regarding pain was roughly $21.59{\pm}2.93$ among the 181 participants. The nurses selected Tylenol as the preferred choice (81.2%). Seventy-one percent of respondents didn't use Pain Intensity Instruments during the pain assessment. The subjects preferred the Numerical Rating Scale rather than Visual Analogue Scales. Pharmacology questions were the least likely to be answered correctly. No specific correlations were found between score and demographic variables of age and experience. No specific correlation between score and educational level was noted. Conclusion: Nurses require ongoing education on pain management, particularly regarding pharmaceutical agents.

Oral Cancer: Knowledge, Practices and Opinions of Dentists in Yemen

  • Background: Oral cancer presents with high mortality rates, and the likelihood of survival is remarkably superior when detected early. Dental professionals have an important role and responsibility in prevention and early detection of oral cancer. Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, practices and opinions regarding oral cancer among dentists in Yemen. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire involving private and public dental practitioners, working in different governorates in Yemen. Results: Of the 800 dentists surveyed, a total of 221 questionnaires were completed and returned (response rate 27.6%). A vast majority of dentists (96.38%) identified tobacco as the major risk factor for oral cancer, and 82.8% knew that squamous cell carcinoma is the most common form. While 47.1% of the dentists agreed that they were adequately trained in oral cancer screening, the majority (86%) believed that they need further training in oral cancer screening. Conclusions: These results suggest that additional training and continuing educational programs on prevention and early detection of oral cancer for dentists are to be highly recommended.

  • Scheduling jobs effectively under consideration of actual loads on machines is one of the most complicated tasks in production control. The complexity of the finite capacity scheduling often makes the conventional methods of industrial engineering fail. As an alternative, Knowledge-based approaches to job-shop scheduling have been evolved recently. This paper presents a blackboard- based scheduling expert system which combines knowledge-based scheduling with interactive scheduling. It is shown to be possible to generate the feasible schedule within a reasonable time. Flexible reaction management is also possible while keeping the changes in the generated schedule to the minimal and adjusting the schedule to tardy operations or working environmental changes. The system is equipped with a rule base with heuristics for handling conflicted event. A case study applying the implemented system is described.

The Effects of Jigsaw II Expert Groupings on Studentis Knowledge, Inquiry Ability and Attitudes at Elementary School Science Study (전문가집단을 활용한 Jigsaw II 협동학습이 과학지식, 탐구능력 및 학습태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently, introduced open education, there are some models applied several cooperative teaming, but there is no case in applied Jigsaw Ⅱ. So this research is selected objects which are 147 students in the fifth grade in 1999' school year and 143 students in 2000's on Yongwon elementary school. It makes share a partial responsibility for planner, leader, investigator, helper, writer and reporter in the small groups, and apply the Jigsaw Ⅱ model. Qualitative and quantitative analyses show that they have effects of Jigsaw Ⅱ cooperative Learning on Student's knowledge, inquiry ability and attitudes on Elementary School Science Study. The final results are following. The significance of Knowledge has .02 in 1999 and .01 in 2000. Testification of Inquiry ability has 1.75 in 1999 and 2.25 in 2000. The significance of Attitudes has .03 in 1999 and .00 in 2000. Research that has emerged from the cooperative teaming has led us to better understandings of multi purposed roles, interactions, and communities that arise when students work together to team science. Each of students can also cooperative as co-builders, working as equal participants to create a product that is better than that while would have built by either individual alone. Upon asking their intention, cooperative loaming shows more participation.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a knowledge-based real-time decision support system to support decision makers for efficient berth operation of Inchon Port. In these days the berth operation problems have been many studied. The berth operation rules differ from port to port and the problem is highly dependent on natural geographical and operational environment of port. In Inchon Port the ship’s entrance into port and departure from port is extremely affected status of dock. In this paper we analyzed some effects of dock a specific character of Inchon Port with a real data of ship’s in Inchon Port. And reconstruct a previous expert’s knowledge of berth allocating problem in Inchon Port. Also the mechanism for the efficient berth operation has been studied by repeatedly dispatching in order to obtain a best effect of berth allocation, with real-time updated information for delay at service time of a specific berth and changing of a working-berth. The system is developed with graphic user interface(GUI) concept using user interactive approach. And this system will be provide decision support maker with an efficient and fast way to berth allocating and reduce wastes of time space and manpower in Inchon Port operation.

Nutritional Assessment of Snacks Consumed in Child Care Centers in Tean-Gun (태안군 어린이집에서 제공하는 간식의 영양 평가)

  • This study evaluated the evaluate nutrient knowledge of child care teachers and assessed the nutritional level of snacks served in 18 child care centers in Tean-Gun. The survey sample was 18 child care teachers working in 18 child care centers of Tean-Gun. The questionnaire requested information about demographic factors, nutritional knowledge, management status of snacks, and the kinds and serving size of snacks served for 1 week. Data were analyzed using SPSS for windows(version 12.0) and nutritional values were assessed using Can-pro 2.0. The mean score of teachers' nutritional knowledge was 22 out of 30 points. The scores were low in the questions regarding the ease with which Ca and re deficiencies can be developed in infants. The contents of most nutrients supplied from the snacks exceeded 15% of RI(Recommended Intake) but there were significant differences in the contents of energy (p<0.05), protein (p<0.05), fat (p<0.05), carbohydrate (p<0.05) and calcium (p<0.001) between the child care centers. Especially, the difference of calcium between the child care centers was 344.84 mg. These results indicate that a program of relevant nutritional education focusing on snacks needs to be developed for child care teachers, with a special recognition on correct calcium level.

Effect of Education on Infection Control for Multidrug Resistant Organism on Infection Control by NICU Nurses (다제내성균 감염관리 교육이 신생아 중환자실 간호사의 감염관리에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of education on infection control for multidrug resistant organism (MDRO). Methods: One group pre-post time series design was used. Infection control education for MDRO infection was provided to nurses working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Knowledge and recognition were evaluated before and after education. Hand hygiene compliance, MDRO isolation rate and central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) rate were used as outcome variables. Data from 45 nurses was used for analysis. Results: General knowledge about MDRO increased (p=.011). Responses to questions about image of MDRO and MDRO management tended to change in a positive direction (p=.046). Hand hygiene compliance was 100% at pre-test, 79.5% during education period and 98.4% at post-education period. MDRO isolation rate was 6.83 per 1,000 patient days at pre-test, 10.24 during education period and 6.68 at post-education period. CLABSI rate was 3.76 per 1,000 central line days at pre-test, 6.84 during education period and 4.71 at post-education period. Conclusion: Findings indicate that the education program is effective in improving knowledge about MDRO in NICU nurses. However, more reliable indicators should be used to determine long-term effects.
