Background: The objective of this study is to investigate the needs and importance of basic core competencies required for future society by dental hygienists' viewpoints who are working in the clinical practices and to provide the fundamental data to develop the educational programs based on the competencies in the 21st century so as to enhance their working capability. Methods: A total of 38 questionnaires were used in this study, 3 questionnaires on the general characteristics (age, service years, main job functions) and those in 11 sub-factors of basic core competencies including 4 questionnaires on creativity, 3 on collaboration, 3 on communication, 3 on interpersonal relationship, 3 on problem-solving, 4 on resource control, 4 on self-control and development, 2 on vocational ethics, 3 on knowledge information utilization, 3 on global mind, and 3 on emotional intelligence. Self-reported survey was conducted in the dental hygienists who were working in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province and a total of 195 data were analyzed. Results: Vocational ethics, communication, and collaboration showed the highest on both importance and needs with 4.49 points and 4.34; 4.41 and 4.28; and 4.39 and 4.22, respectively, while global mind showed the lowest with 3.51 and 3.59. Upon Importance-Performance Analysis, 7 items were defined to require maintain the status including vocational ethics, communication, collaboration, interpersonal relationship, self-control, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving while 4 items with lower priority were resource control and development, knowledge information utilization, creativity, and global mind. Conclusion: Based on this study results that suggested the basic core competencies of dental hygienists in alignment with their jobs in the future society, competitive dental hygienists should be developed with the educational programs applied with these competencies.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the spine stability by comparing muscle activation in various scaffold working conditions. The independent working conditions were designed by two levels of working height, existence and absence of safety handrail, and the two levels of expertise. The corresponding activities of the agonist and antagonist muscles of spine were simultaneously recorded by using EMG. As results, novice worker showed increased muscle activity while doing the task on the 2nd floor, absence of handrail. And expert showed the increase of co-contraction while working on the 2nd floor without handrail. Such co-contraction was found to increase the spine stability when the working condition become risky. On the other hand, the co-contraction was prolonged, the spine muscle fatique and disc pressure could be increased, which would increase the risk of musculo-skeletal disorder. The results of co-contraction in this study indicates that the motor control system responds to maintain the stability of the spine particularly when workers cognitively recognize the danger of falling or imbalance. This study also quantitatively accounted for the biomechanical cause of LBP among workers who has to prevent themselves from falling. Therefore, if can be said that safe environment preventing falling can also prevent workers from MSDs as well. Such knowledge can be applied to design ergonomic workplace environment as well as movable scaffold.
This study was performed to investigate the sanitation management and the sanitation knowledge of managers in military foodservice by questionnaires and inspection of foodservice facilities. Thirty managers working in military foodservice were given questionnaires and the related facilities located in the northern part of Kyeongki-Do, Korea were inspected. Most of the facilities(76.%) were built more than ten years ago, they are now decreptit and the internal temperature was high with poor ventilation in the kitchen. An education program on sanitation was conducted less than four times a month (63.3%) while the education materials and resources from the upper-unit(80%) along with their self-renewment of data was poor(once a month, 60%). In the sanitation knowledge examination, the percentage of correct answers were 76% in terms of facilities, 72% in terms of personal sanitation, 71% in terms of receiving and storage, 63% in terms of the environment and 57% in terms of the cooking process. The results of this study suggest that the modernization of foodservice facilities and equipment, along with additional sanitation machinery and equipment, a guaranteed working environment and upgraded sanitation education will be required to improve the sanitation management in military foodservice.

An expert system is developed which can diagnose the causes and remedies of the failures of power transmission gears. The basic components of the expert system are knowledge base, inference engine, and working memory. The knowledges in knowledge base are classified into the knowledges for determining the failure types and for diagnosis of causes and remedies of the failures. The former is represented hierarchically into the main category of eleven groups by rules and the sub category of twenty four groups by facts, while the later is represented by facts according to the each group of knowledges. In the inference engine some considerations are implemented, i.e., the backward chaining method and depth first search to determine the category of the failures, the meta-knowledges to shorten the search space, the certainty factor to evaluate the reliability of result, and the unification strategy to diagnose the causes and remedies of the failures. The working memory is established to hold the results during inference temporarily. In addition, knowledge acquisition facility, explanation facility, and user interface are included for the usefulness of user. This expert system is written with the PROLOG programming language on IBM-PC compatible computer operated by MS-DOS and be executed alone.

The purpose of this study is to identify the handwashing knowledge and attitudes of resistered nurses on general wards. Subjects for this study include 182 nurses working in general wards of a hospital in Seoul area. Data were collected by a questionnaire from July 30 to August 10,1996. Statistical analyses were done by the SPSS/PC program. The techniques used in this sudy included frequencies, chi-square test. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. 34.6% of the respondents reported that they washed their hand an average of 5 to 7 times during the work day. 2. 38.5% of the respondents reported always washing after each patient contact. Only 9.9% always washed before contact with a patient. 3. 56.6% of the respondents reported a washing time of 10 to 20 seconds, whereas 29.1% washed 21 to 30 seconds. Chi-square tests were employed to determine any differences in handwashing frequency and duration by age, working years, work position. There were no satistically significant differences among the variables. 4. 95.6% of the subjects used water and plain soap during the washing process. The respondents washed the palms of the hands, the backs of their hands and between their fingers(33%). Only 17.6% removed rings before handwashing. Similarly, 11% removed their wristwatch. The majority(96.2%) reported that they used communal textile towel to dry their hands. When asked what method they used to turn off the water faucet after washing, 98.4% reported using direct hand-to-faucet contact. 5. Nursing activities that showed the highest handwashing rates was after wound dressing(22.9%), followed by suctioning(21.4%), injection(21.2%), inserting catheter(18%). 6. Reasons cited for reduced handwashing frequency included being too busy to wash more often(74.7%), no need to wash more often(11.0%) and dry skin caused by frequent handwashing(3.3%). 7. When asked where they obtained their current knowledge of handwashing techniques, they reported professors(73.6%), resisted nurses(14.8%) and supervisor(6.6%). 8. Nursing staff thought that proper handwashing was important factor in decreasing nosocomical infections(72.4%).
The purpose of this study is to do research hairdressers' knowledge of hairless head dummy's brand name, and to suggest and develop various hairless head dummy for the students who are learning hair styling in the colleges and the academies, for the hairdressers working in the beauty salons. Using only one and same kind of hairless head model is not appropriate for hairdressers and students being trained hair styling skill, because people have a variety of head shapes. Three hundred twenty nine persons who live in Iksan area are selected as subjects. The results of the study are as follow: by the analysis of subjects' knowledge of hairless head dummy's brand name, most of them didn't know it exactly. This study deduced that there is a significant relation between the utility of hairless head dummy and subjects' intention of purchasing the dummy. To put it in detail, in case of college students, there is little significant difference between them. But in case of academy students, there is. By the regression analysis, especially, in case of hairdressers working in beauty salons and academy students, four conditions did significantly matter in their purchasing the dummy: first, whether the respondents owns it, second, whether it is helpful to themselves, third, whether they have ever used foreign products and, finally, whether they have intention to purchase various hairless head dummys or not. In conclusion, it depended on each group position whether their knowledge of brand names of hairless head model affects their purchase of the dummy or not.

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among females worldwide. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and practice about breast cancer and its related factors among women in Baghdad city, Iraq. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 508 women aged 18 to 55 years from four non-governmental organizations (NGO) in Baghdad city, Iraq. A self-administered questionnaire on breast cancer knowledge and practice was distributed to participants during weekly activity of the NGO. Results: A total of 61.2% of the respondents had poor knowledge, only 30.3% performed breast self-examination (BSE) and 41.8% said that they did not know the technique to perform BSE. Associations between knowledge and marital status and age were significant. For practice, working status, education, age and family income were significant. After controlling for cofounders, the most important contributing factors for poor knowledge among respondents were marital status and not performing BSE, with adjusted odds ratio of 1.6 and 1.8 respectively. Conclusions: Breast cancer knowledge and practice of BSE are poor among women in Baghdad city, Iraq. More promotion regarding breast cancer signs and symptoms and also how to perform BSE should be conducted using media such as television and internet as these constituted the main sources of information for most women in our study.

Purpose: The purposes of the study were to examine the knowledge and practice about Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) isolation precaution, and to explore influencing factors of the isolation practice among hospital nurses. Methods: A total of 182 nurses were recruited from four general hospitals where MERS patients had been treated. The knowledge and practice of MERS isolation precaution were measured by the scales developed based on the CDC guidelines. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 22 with descriptive statistics, T-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierachical multiple regression analysis. Results: The nurses were 30 years old in average, and half of them had less than 5 years of clinical experience. and knowledge on droplet precautions (${\beta}=.171$, p=.019) were the significant predictors, explaining 19.6% of variance in the MERS isolation guideline practice. Clinical experience (${\beta}=.225$, p=.002), working at infection unit (${\beta}=-.203$, p=.011). Conclusion: The knowledge on droplet precaution and general knowledge on MERS were the important modifiable factor to improve the MERS isolation guideline practice among hospital nurses, even after adjusting clinical experience and demographic variables. It is necessary to develop an efficient education program on specific guidelines for prevention and management of infection by improving the knowledge on infectious disease such as MERS as well as droplet precaution which are modifiable factors.
The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' knowledge and performance of guidelines for evaluation of new fever in critically ill adult patients according to the level of evidence. The total participants were 145 nurses working for medical surgical unit and intensive care unit in two hospitals. The knowledge and performance mean scores of guidelines were $0.70{\pm}0.09$ and $3.08{\pm}0.31$ respectively. The evidence level 1 of guidelines had the higher performance score in high score group than low score group of knowledge groups(F=3.86, p=.023) and performance groups(F=163.14, p<.001), while the evidence level 3 of guidelines had the higher performance score in low score group than high score group of knowledge groups(F=5.99, p=.003). Knowledge and performance scores were significantly correlated (r=.25, p=.003). In Conclusion, these findings emphasize that clinical professions need to enhance both of knowledge and practice with evidence based guideline of new fever in critically ill patient.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to contribute to the development of an oral hygiene care program for patients with dementia by understanding the oral care status and oral health knowledge of care workers and caregivers with regard to patients with dementia. Methods: For about two months from May to June 2018, a survey of care workers and caregivers working in long-term nursing homes and elderly-specialized nursing hospitals was performed, and 442 people were selected for the final analysis. The frequency and percentage were calculated to understand the oral care status and oral health knowledge regarding patients with dementia, and an independent t-test was conducted to determine the difference between the elderly oral health knowledge of care workers and caregivers. Multiple regression analysis was also carried out to examine factors affecting elderly oral health knowledge. Results: With respect to the factor of oral health education in elderly oral health knowledge, oral health knowledge was shown to be highest when participants responded that education was unnecessary (p<0.001), and regarding the will to participate in oral health education, oral health knowledge was highest when participants responded as having no desire to participate (p<0.05). Conclusions: These results suggest that a standard manual should be developed for the accurate and qualitative management of oral hygiene care tasks performed by care workers and caregivers who are in charge of oral care for patients with dementia in order to provide continuous and systematic oral care.
