The knowledge of infection control, practice and performance of dental hygienists (치과위생사의 감염예방 지식수준과 실천도 및 수행도)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the infection control practice and performance study on knowledge of dental hygienist between their knowledge and general characteristics. Methods : The subjects in this study are 305 dental hygienists who received local in-service education on December 10, 2011 and February 28, 2012. Results : The infection prevention knowledge and performance are higher as work experience is more (p<.05), as the education level is higher and when they have undergone in-service education (p<.001). Also these are higher when they are working in the dentist at the present (p<.001). The infection prevention practice are different with respect to ages (p<.01), work experience (p<.001), and the highest level of education (p<.01). There are correlations between the infection control practices and knowledge, performance and knowledge. As the practice level is higher, it is shown that the performance is higher (r=.049, p=.01). Conclusions : It would be necessary to develop the systematic and continuous program in infection control education and to build system which makes in-service training for dental hygienists mandatory. These could improve the level of infection prevention knowledge, practice and performance of dental hygienists to prevent the exposure to infection of the people.

A Study of Care Workers Knowledge on Pressure Ulcer

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of knowledge of care workers working at long term care hospitals and nursing homes on pressure ulcer. A total of 81 care workers including 34 at long term care hospitals and 47 at nursing homes were surveyed. 24 questions were used to evaluate their degree of knowledge on pressure ulcer. Their knowledge on pressure ulcer scored 12.84 out of the total score of 24 points(SD=3.40), which was equal to 53.50 (SD=24.23) out of 100 points. Their knowledge on the prevention of pressure ulcer was highest among the subareas of evaluation. Their knowledge on pressure ulcer statistically significantly differed according to education on pressure ulcer(P<.05). A pressure ulcer is a skin disorder that may be prevented and cured. At this point when long term care facilities are rapidly increasing, care workers highlevel knowledge on and good management of pressure ulcer is very important. Practically educating them on pressure ulcer including the provision of recent, updated relevant knowledge will be necessary.

Factors influencing knowledge and practice of dental treatment for patients suffering from systemic disease among dental health care workers (전신질환자를 위한 치과 임상적 처치에 대한 치과종사자의 지식 및 실천에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting medical knowledge and practice of dental treatment for systemic disease among dental health care workers. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 222 dental health care workers working in Seoul, Daejeon, Busan, Gyeonggi province, Chungcheong province, and Jeolla province within the period between May 1 - June 30, 2016. Knowledge and medical knowledge about the clinical treatment of patients suffering from systemic disease and their practice were composed of items that were corrected, supplemented, and developed by themselves based on previous research. Results: Factors affecting knowledge about clinical treatment of patients suffering from systemic disease were place of employment, treatment about systemic disease, and practice of dental treatment for systemic diseases. Predictive power was 38.5%. Factors affecting practice of clinical treatment of patients suffering from systemic disease were sex, place of employment, treatment about systemic disease, the basic equipment and drugs needed for emergency care, and knowledge of dental treatment for systemic diseases. Predictive power was 39.1%. Conclusions: Dental health care workers' knowledge and practice of dental treatment of patients suffering from systemic diseases were important factors influencing each other.

A Survey of Nurses' Knowledge of Pain (간호사의 통증 지식에 관한 조사연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify nurses' knowledge of pain and provide basic data for development of pain management education programs. Method: The participants in the study were 764 nurses working at seven medical centers in Youngnam area. The instrument used in this study consisted of 22 items on pain knowledge. The data were collected between March 1 and June 30, 2002 using a self-administered questionnaire. Analysis of data was done using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test with the SPSS program. Result: 1) The average score for pain knowledge was 13.63 (total possible score, 22). 2) The highest item with correct response rate for knowledge of fain was identifying 'Tylenol as opioid or non-opioid.' and the lowest was for 'When opioids are used for pain relief for 3-6 months, what percent of patients are likely to develop opioid addiction?' 3) Nurses' knowledge of pain was significantly different according to age (F=7.040, p=.000), education (F=3.385, p=.034) and work career (F=6.101, p=.000). Conclusion: The above findings indicate that it is necessary to develop a comprehensive pain management education program and continuously provide the medical team with new knowledge about pain.

Korean Nurses' Knowledge about Hereditary Colorectal Cancer (국내 간호사의 유전성 대장암 지식정도)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate Korean nurses' knowledge about hereditary colorectal cancer (HCRC). Methods: A modified 15-item HCRC knowledge questionnaire was developed based on previous research. One hundred and forty-eight nurses have completed the questionnaire from February to April, 2011. Results: The average score of nurses' knowledge was $11.25{\pm}1.54$. Ninety-seven percent of nurses knew about colonoscopy check up schedule and family pedigree. However, only 20% of nurses knew about the rate of passing on mutation genes to offspring and risk of developing CRC among carriers. Only 13.5% of nurses had previous genetic education experiences. Working in oncology units, taking care of CRC patients, and participating in genetic education were not associated with nurses' HCRC knowledge. Conclusion: Various factors influence nurses' knowledge about HCRC. Repeated study with larger national sample of nurses is recommended to identify the factors affecting nurses' knowledge level in order to develop efficient genetic education programs for HCRC patients and their families by nurses.

  • Purpose: The study was done to identify variations in Nurses' CPR knowledge, attitude and performance before and after BLS Education. Method: This study was designed to evaluate the differences in Nurses' CPR knowledge, attitude and performance. For the study we selected 167 nurses working in Daegu K University hospital. The study group was given a test before (pre test) and after (post test) BLS education. The BLS education was given by two BLS instructors certified by the American Heart Association, using a DVD and manikin. Result: The results showed a statistically significant difference the nurse's knowledge, belief, emotion and performance but there was no significant difference in their behavior after BLS education. CPR knowledge and performance was higher among emergency room nurses compared to surgical ward nurses. Conclusion: CPR education has shown to have a positive effect on nurses' attitudes towards CPR. It also improved their related knowledge and performance. Therefore, cardiopulmonary education should be given continuously, and different steps of CPR education programs need to be developed in order to fill the knowledge deficiency gap.

Geriatric Hospital Nurses' Knowledge and Attitudes Toward the Aged and Geriatric Nursing Education Needs (노인병원 간호사의 노인에 대안 지식과 태도 및 노인간호 교육 필요도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the nurses' knowledge and attitudes toward the aged and geriatric nursing education needs in geriatric hospitals. Method: The research design was a descriptive study. Data was collected from 101 nurses working in five geriatric hospitals in D city using structured questionnaires. Result: The mean score of geriatric hospital nurses' knowledge toward the aged was 13.28. The mean score of geriatric hospital nurses' attitudes toward the aged was 79.14. The mean score of geriatric hospital nurses' nursing education needs was 4.00. The correlation between geriatric hospital nurses' knowledge and attitudes toward the aged showed a significant positive value(r=.396, p<.01). According to the above results, the nurses' knowledge toward the aged was high, the attitude was neutral, and the nursing education needs was high. Conclusion: There is a need to develop continuing education programs to increase knowledge and positive attitudes and to apply these programs routinely to maintain and reinforce the nurses' knowledge and attitudes.

The Role of Brand Knowledge in Explaining Relationship between Brand-Centered Communications and Brand Commitment: Evidence from Public Banks Pakistan

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which internal brand communication (IBC) impacts on brand commitment (BC). Research design, data, and methodology - A structured questionnaire has been built and distributed on a total sample of 650 banking staff working in five public banks in Pakistan. Results - The findings of PLS-SEM revealed that besides the indirect effect of internal brand communication (IBC) on brand commitment via brand knowledge, the study also exposes a direct positive effect of IBC on brand commitment. This study also reveals that brand commitment is affected by brand knowledge and internal brand communication practices. The result of mediation reveals that brand knowledge partially mediated the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Practical implications- This study empirically validates that internal brand communication and brand knowledge are prerequisites for brand commitment. Therefore, managers, particularly in-service enterprises, should provide sufficient IBC practices and appropriate brand knowledge to enhance employees' brand commitment. Conclusions - The comprehensive analysis of the impact of brand knowledge on the proposed relationship. It further adds up to the branding literature, which is mostly qualitative and lacks empirical validation.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of lifelong learners' learned helplessness and failure tolerance on academic achievement and job performance. The result of this empirical study exhibits that learned helplessness has negative effects on their academic achievement and job performance. Failure tolerance, however, has positive effects on their academic achievement and job performance. In addition, their academic achievement has mediated between learned helplessness and/or failure tolerance, and job performance. This study suggests that lifelong learners' positive response to failures is helpful for both learning and working performances.
