  • A convergence software development methodology based on product line engineering provides an architecture model for application development and it also provides workflow as a behavior specification of control component development to develop transaction centric application. To effect a change on software development based on product line engineering it has to be supported by a tool. But almost workflow modeling tools dose not support product line engineering concept. So we need new workflow modeling tool to support the convergence software development methodology. In this paper, we introduce a toolset for workflow modeling that consists of eclipse plug-in applications and open source tool and describe the relationships of tools through example.

  • In this paper, an adaptive workflow management system, called K-WFMS, is proposed. The K-WFMS integrates database system and knowledge-based system to automate business processes that are executed with complex and various business rules such as task scheduling, role resolution, and exception handling rules. The K-WFMS is adaptable in the sense that it allows its users to change workflow schema in the course of workflow execution as well as it provides rule-based modeling constructs to handle predictable exceptions during workflow modeling. The overall architecture and implementation of K-WFMS are explained, and the change propagation mechanism to maintain validity of workflow model is suggested.

  • Collaborative system is an essential idea in the global and e-business environments Workflow plays a key role implementing collaborative system. Workflow is an emerging technology for business process automation, monitoring integrity enforcement, and recovery. A process model describes the structure of business process in the real world The process model can be transformed into a Workflow model utilizing a computer. The paper proposes a web-based Workflow process design in the B2B environment Considering a global environment where the partners interchange their processes beyond the company boundaries, a web-based infrastructure is the most preferred platform Considering this, Workflow processes and e-Business structures were combined together on the web environment.

  • Various bioinformatics tools for biological data processing have been developed and most of them are available in public. Most bioinformatics works are carried out by a composite application of those tools. Several integration approaches have been proposed for easy use of the tools. This paper proposes a new multi agent system to integrate bioinformatics tools in the perspective of workflow since the composite applications of tools can be regarded as workflows. For the easy integration, the proposed system employs wrapper agents for existing tools, uses XML-based messages in the inter-agent communication, and agents are supposed to extract necessary information from the received messages. This allows new tools to be easily added on the integration framework. The proposed method allows various control structures in workflow definition and provides the progress monitoring capability of the on-going workflows. In particular, agents in this system have the rule-based architecture which allows the defined rule set to be a special role agent. This feature provides fast and flexible agent development to aid in managing the complexity of bioinformatics application. This system has been partially implemented and has been proven to be a viable implementation for workflow-based bioinformatics tool integration.

  • The amount of information increases rapidly when working in a distributed environment where multiple collaborative partners work together on a complex product. Today's PDM (product data management) systems provide good capabilities regarding the management of product data within a single company. However, taking into account the variety of systems used at partner sites in an engineering environment one can easily imagine problems regarding the interoperability and the data consistency. This paper presents a concept to improve the workflow management using the parameters network. It shows a parameter driven engineering workflow that is able to manage engineering task across company boarders. We introduce a mechanism of workflow management based on the engineering parameters and an architecture of the distributed workspace to apply it within a PDM system. For a parameter mapping between CAD and PDM system we developed an XML-based CATIA data interface module using CAA.

  • This paper proposes a cloud workflow model theoretically supported by the information control net modeling methodology as a cloud workflow modeling methodology that is mandatory in implementing realtime enterprise workflow management systems running with cloud computing environments. The eventual goal of the cloud workflow model proposed in this paper is to support those cloud workflow architectures reflecting the types of cloud deployment models such as private, community, public, and hybrid cloud deployment models. Moreover, the proposed model is a mathematical graph model that is extended from the information control net modeling methodology used in conventional enterprise workflow modeling, and it aims to theoretically couple this methodology with the cloud deployment models. Finally, this paper tries to verify the feasibility of the proposed model by building a possible cloud workflow architecture and its cloud workflow services on a realtime enterpeise cloud workflow management system.

  • This paper proposes a policy adjuster-driven Grid workflow management system for collaborative healthcare platform, which supports collaborative heart disease diagnosis applications. To select policies according to service level agreement of users and dynamic resource status, we devised a policy adjuster to handle workflow management polices and resource management policies using policy decision scheme. We implemented this new architecture with workflow management functions based on policy quorum based resource management system for providing poincare geometrycharacterized ECG analysis and virtual heart simulation service. To evaluate our proposed system, we executed a heart disease identification application in our system and compared the performance to that of the general workflow system and PQRM system under different types of SLA.

  • A URC, which is a Ubiquitous Robot Companion, provides services to users in ubiquitous computing environments and has advantage of simplifying robot's hardware and software by distributing the complicated functionality of robots to other system. In this paper, we propose SOWL, which is a software architecture for URC robots and a mixed word of SOMAR and CAWL. SOWL keeps the advantages of URC and it also has the loosely-coupled characteristics. Moreover it makes it easy to develop of URC robot software. The proposed architecture is composed of 4 layers: device software, robot software, robot application, and end user layer. Developers of the each layer is able to build software suitable for their requirements by combining software modules in the lower layer. SOWL consists of SOMAR and CAWL engine. SOMAR, which is a middleware for the execution of device software and robot software, is based on service-oriented architecture(SOA) for robot software. CAWL engine is a system to process CAWL which is a context-aware workflow language. SOWL is able to provide a layered architecture for the execution of a robot software. It also makes it possible for developers of the each layer to build module-based robot software.

  • A service broker supporting customers plays an important role in internet marketplaces. Recently. several intelligent brothers have been developed for electronic commerce, outline shopping mall, and electronic marketplaces. While these systems provide interesting shopping experiences, they fall short in fully exploiting the capabilities, such as the service integration and automatic execution required by internet market places. In this respect, we propose a workflow-based service broker system. Dependent services in our approach are modeled as workflow processes, which are automatical1y processed by a workflow engine. In the proposed system all data exchanges are realized through XML providing platform independent, extensible, open. and interoperable architecture.

  • This paper proposes a new design strategy that can overcome limitations of two existing approaches, focusing on performance and scalability issues among various architectural issues which must be considered in designing workflow systems. In the proposed approach, we suggest to introduce 'delegation model' which corresponds to the high-level strategy utilizing the fundamental characteristics of mobile agents, after establishing a mobile agent-based workflow system architecture focused on performance and scalability. We point out three major issues that should be considered in this approach and propose a 3-tier mobile agent-based workflow system architecture that effectively reflects these considerations. Also, we show that the new approach can provide better performance and scalability than existing ones - approaches based on the client-server paradigm and other approaches based on mobile agent paradigm represented by DartFlow system - by evaluating performance of the proposed architecture through the GSPN simulation.
