Since decomposed granite soil shows various characteristics of shear behavior dependent on initial conditions such as weathering degree and grain breakage, it is nacessary to invert ligate stress -strain relationship and changes of shear characteristics for different initial conditions. Associated with abovefnentioned view, direct shear tests, and triaxial compression tutsts(Ef, CD) were carried out in this study for undisturbed and disturbed compacted weathered granite samples obtained from 4 construction work sites with the various weathering degree and components of parent rocks. The deformation behavior of undisturbed samples under small confining stress shows hardening to softening, which is similar to that of over nsolidated clay whereas disturbed weathered granite soils do hardeningfonstant regardless of weathering degree, which is also similar to sedimentary clay. Conventional direct shear-tests for undisturbed samples show a tendency to overestimate cohesion. It is possidle to approximate stress ratio(q/p') and volumetric increment ratio(dv/ds) in the triaxital compression tests by an equation, ($dv/d\varepsilon,=\alpha(M-\eta))$ irrespective of moisture content, weathering degree and disturbance.
This study deals with the microstructure and tensile properties of 700 MPa-grade high-strength and seismic reinforced steel bars. The high-strength reinforced steel bars (600 D13, 600 D16 and 700 D13 specimens) are fabricated by a TempCore process, while the seismic reinforced steel bar (600S D16 specimen) is fabricated by air cooling after hot rolling. For specimens fabricated by the TempCore process, the 600 D13 and 600 D16 specimens have a microstructure of tempered martensite in the surface region and ferrite-pearlite in the center region, while the 700 D13 specimen has a microstructure of tempered martensite in the surface region and bainite in the center region. Therefore, their hardness is the highest in the surface region and shows a tendency to decrease from the surface region to the center region because tempered martensite has a higher hardness than ferrite-pearlite or bainite. However, the hardness of the 600S D16 specimen, which is composed of fully ferrite-pearlite, increases from the surface region to the center region because the pearlite volume fraction increases from the surface region to the center region. On the other hand, the tensile test results indicate that only the 700 D13 specimen with a higher carbon content exhibits continuous yielding behavior due to the formation of bainite in the center region. The 600S D16 specimen has the highest tensile-to-yield ratio because the presence of ferrite-pearlite and precipitates caused by vanadium addition largely enhances work hardening.

Current need of weight reduction in automotive part increases the application for high strength steel (HSS). The various types of high strength steels have been used to produce chassis part, control arms and trailing arms for weight reduction and increasing of fatigue durability such as dual phase steel (DP) and ferrite bainite steel (FB). But, DP and FB steels have proven to show inferiority in durability as well as press formability. Edge cracking occurred often in flange forming and hole expansion processes is the major failure encountered. This paper discussed the behavior of edge stretchability of high strength steel of DP and FB steels. Experimental works have been conducted to study the effect of punch clearance and burr direction on hole expansion ratio (HER). Also finite element simulation (FEM) has been preformed to clarify the mechanism of flange crack and support the experimental results on HER of DP and FB steels. It was simulated the whole process of blanking process following by hole expansion process and ductile fracture criterion named the modified Cockcroft-Latham model which was used to capture the fracture initiation. From the hole expansion tests and FEM simulation studies it was concluded that ferrite bainite steel showed better stretch-flangeability than dual phase steel. It was attributed to the lower work hardening rate of ferrite bainite steel than dual phase steel at the sheared edge.
The sliding wear behavior of Ni-base hardfacing alloy, Deloro 50, was investigated at the contact stresses of 15ksi and 30ksi under the various wear environments. In air at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed lower wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 15ksi due to the occurrence of severe adhesive wear. This seems to be caused by the lower hardness and work- hardening rate of Deloro 50 than those of Stellite 6. In water at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed as good wear resistance as Stellite 6 at 15ksi. It was considered to be due to that water could effectively prevent metal to metal contact through contacting asperities. However, Deloro 50 showed severe adhesive wear at 30ksi in water at room temperature. It seems to be that the water could not suppress adhesion wear at 30ksi. At $300^{\circ}C$ in air, Deloro 50 exhibited higher wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 30ksi. It was considered that the oxide glaze layers formed on wear surface during sliding, effectively prevented direct metal-to-metal contacts.
Since the linear elastic fracture analysis has been proved to be insufficient in predicting the failure of strain hardening materials, a number of fracture concepts have been studied which remain applicable in the presence of plasticity near a crack tip. This work thereby presents a new finite element model to predict the elastic-plastic crack-tip field and fatigue life of center-cracked panels(CCP) with ductile fracture under large-scale yielding conditions. Also, this study has been carried out to investigate the path-dependence of J-integral within the plastic zone for elastic-perfectly plastic, bilinear elastic-plastic, and nonlinear elastic-plastic materials. Based on the incremental theory of plasticity, the p-version finite element is employed to account for the accurate values of J-integral, the most dominant fracture parameter, and the shape of plastic zone near a crack tip by using the J-integral method. To predict the fatigue life, the conventional Paris law has been modified by substituting the range of J-value denoted by ${\Delta}J$ for ${\Delta}K$. The experimental fatigue test is conducted with five CCP specimens to validate the accuracy of the proposed model. It is noted that the relationship between the crack length a and ${\Delta}K$ in LEFM analysis shows a strong linearity, on the other hand, the nonlinear relationship between a and ${\Delta}J$ is detected in EPFM analysis. Therefore, this trend will be depended especially in the case of large scale yielding. The numerical results by the proposed model are compared with the theoretical solutions in literatures, experimental results, and the numerical solutions by the conventional h-version of the finite element method.
Stainless-clad (SC) bimetallic steels that are manufactured by metallurgically bonding stainless steels as cladding metal and conventional mild steels as substrate metal, are kind of advanced steel plate products. Such advanced composite steels are gaining increasingly widespread usage in a range of engineering structures and have great potential to be used extensively for large civil and building infrastructures. Unfortunately, research work on the SC bimetallic steels from material level to structural design level for the applications in structural engineering field is very limited. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to investigate the material behaviour of the SC bimetallic steels under the cyclic loading which structural steels usually could encounter in seismic scenario. A number of SC bimetallic steel coupon specimens are tested under monotonic and cyclic loadings. The experimental monotonic and cyclic stress-strain curves of the SC bimetallic steels are obtained and analysed. The effects of the clad ratio that is defined as the ratio of the thickness of cladding layer to the total thickness of SC bimetallic steel plate on the monotonic and cyclic behaviour of the SC bimetallic steels are studied. Based on the experimental observations, a cyclic constitutive model with combined hardening criterion is recommended for numerical simulation of the cyclic behaviour of the SC bimetallic steels. The parameters of the constitutive model for the SC bimetallic steels with various clad ratios are calibrated. The research outcome presented in this paper may provide essential reference for further seismic analysis of structures fabricated from the SC bimetallic steels.

In installation of groundwater wells, grouting materials are injected between the groundwater borehole and the inner casing in order to prevent infiltration of contaminated groundwater from the top soil layers into wells. The injection device of grouting materials is commonly composed of an inlet head device with an expansion packer, a cylinder capable of storing the grouting materials, and an air cylinder. In this work, two types of common grouting materials, silicon and cement materials, were tested for their performances as grouting media. For silicon. silicon was mixed with clay or calcite, and tested for their tensile strength and underwater reactivity. Both silicon-clay and silicon-calcite mixtures had adequate flow and adhesiveness. For cement material, general cement, ultra-rapid harding cement, and natural cement were respectively mixed with three different soil types including coarse-grained granite, fine-grained granite, and gneiss, and direct shearing tests were conducted after hardening. Under grouting depth condition of 30 m, the minimum adhesive strength was greater for weathered gneiss than non-weathered gneiss with its maximum values obtained from the mixtures of ultra rapid-harding cement.
This study deals with the microstructure and tensile properties of 600 MPa-grade seismic reinforced steel bars fabricated by a pilot plant. The steel bar specimens are composed of a fully ferrite-pearlite structure because they were air-cooled after hot-rolling. The volume fraction and interlamellar spacing of the pearlite and the ferrite grain size decrease from the center region to the surface region because the surface region is more rapidly cooled than the center region. The A steel bar specimenwith a relatively high carbon content generally has a higher pearlite volume fraction and interlamellar spacing of pearlite and a finer ferrite grain size because increasing the carbon content promotes the formation of pearlite. As a result, the A steel bar specimen has a higher hardness than the B steel bar in all the regions. The hardness shows a tendency to decrease from the center region to the surface region due to the decreased pearlite volume fraction. On the other hand, the tensile-to-yield strength ratio and the tensile strength of the A steel bar specimen are higher than those of the B steel bar with a relatively low carbon content because a higher pearlite volume fraction enhances work hardening. In addition, the B steel bar specimen has higher uniform and total elongations because a lower pearlite volume fraction facilitates plastic deformation caused by dislocation slip.
The main goal of this study is to prepare a program for analyzing High Strength Steel Fibrous Reinforced Concrete (HSSFRC) slabs and predict the response and strength of the slab instead of preparing a prototype and testing it in the laboratory. For this purpose, new equations are proposed to represent the material properties of High Strength Steel Fibrous Reinforced Concrete. The proposed equations obtained from performing regression analysis on many experimental results using statistical programs. The finite element method is adopted for non-linear analysis of the slabs. The eight-node "Serendipity element" (3 DoF) is chosen to represent the concrete. The layered approach is adopted for concrete elements and the steel reinforcement is represented by a smeared layer. The compression properties of the concrete are modeled by a work hardening plasticity approach and the yield condition is determined depending on the first two stress invariants. A tensile strength criterion is adopted in order to estimate the cracks propagation. many experimental results for testing slabs are compared with the numerical results of the present study and a good agreement is achieved regarding load-deflection curves and crack pattern. The response of the load deflection curve is slightly stiff at the beginning because the creep effect is not considered in this study and for assuming perfect bond between the steel reinforcement and the concrete, however, a great agreement is achieved between the ultimate load from the present study and experimental results. For the models of the tension stiffening and cracked shear modulus, the value of Bg and Bt (Where Bg and Bt are the curvature factor for the cracked shear modulus and tension stiffening models respectively) equal to 0.005 give good results compared with experimental result.

In this paper the viscoelastic responses of four experimental steel-concrete composite beams subjected to highly variable environmental conditions are investigated by means of a finite element (FE) model. Concrete specimens submitted to stepped stress changes are also evaluated to validate the current formulations. Here, two well-known approaches commonly used to solve the viscoelastic constitutive relationship for concrete are employed. The first approach directly solves the integral-type form of the constitutive equation at the macroscopic level, in which aging is included by updating material properties. The second approach is postulated from a rate-type law based on an age-independent Generalized Kelvin rheological model together with Solidification Theory, using a micromechanical based approach. Thus, conceptually both approaches include concrete hardening in two different manners. The aim of this work is to compare and analyze the numerical prediction in terms of long-term deflections of the studied specimens according to both approaches. To accomplish this goal, the performance of several well-known model codes for concrete creep and shrinkage such as ACI 209, CEB-MC90, CEB-MC99, B3, GL 2000 and FIB-2010 are evaluated by means of statistical bias indicators. It is shown that both approaches with minor differences acceptably match the long-term experimental deflection and are able to capture complex oscillatory responses due to variable temperature and relative humidity. Nevertheless, the use of an age-independent scheme as proposed by Solidification Theory may be computationally more advantageous.
