  • In Korea, there has been no revegetation applicable standard for slopes formed by road construction work up to now, so revegetation work has been done using mostly foreign varieties in the manner of early revegetation. However, foreign varieties have some shortcomings; for example, they tend to be dried to death after construction work. Besides, due to the rift in the supporting soil, these revegetated varieties are often displaced from the slopes. Thus, the Ministry of Construction & Transportation on July, 2005 established revegetation standard on the slopes suited for the natural eco-system of Korea and organized positively recommending directions for using self-sewn plants growing near the slopes in overall consideration of soil, weather, regional conditions. The locations specified in this direction are the slopes at the road construction jobsite like the expressway, highways, and local roads. In addition, the Ministry's standard and directions stipulated that damaged slopes's natural environment and eco-system due to various road construction work should be restored, and thus a feeling of stability and pleasantness should be provided to road users as well. Also, the Ministry tried to select seed plants and revegetation measures suited for surrounding environment to put the environment-friendly slope revegetation measures into practice through the test revegetation work in order to prevent illegal construction practices and to improve the quality of revegetation. According to the direction, revegetation districts aimed at the slopes are divided into three ones in consideration of weather environment, regional environment, and forest environment as follows : national territory's core ecological green-land based district centering on the Taebaek Mountains; coastal ecosystem district including islands off the coast; inland eco-system district. The combination of revegetation plants according to environment revegetation districts, should be executed by dividing into herb-oriented type, woody plant colony type, and bio-species versatility restoration type, and the selection of seeding plants should be done in the presence of a supervisor and through test construction results and technology counseling from a specialist in natural eco-system restoration and revegetation measure seed combination standard according to environment revegetation districts. This direction will be executed in the manner of monitoring until the yea 2008 and 2009 it will be finalized and enforced on December, 2009.

  • In the Civil Aviation field, the international trend (through ICAO, EUROCONTROL) is to adopt one positioning system that allows to follow more flight phases. This will allow to release themselves by ground installations and optimize the traffic flows following the aRea Navigation (RNAV) concept. In order to realize this goal the European Scientific Community are focusing on Augmentation Systems based on Satellite infrastructure (SBAS - Satellite Based Augmentation System) and on Ground based ones (GBAS - Ground Based Augmentation System). The goal of this work is to present some results on SBAS and GBAS performances. Regarding SBAS, the Department of Applied Sciences of Parthenope University, after the acquisition of a Novatel OEM4 SBAS receiver has created a monitoring station that reflect as much as possible a standardized measure environment for EGNOS Data Collection Network (EDCN), established by Eurocontrol. The Department of Applied Science has decided to carry out a own monitoring survey to verify the performance of EGNOS that can be achieved in South Europe region, a zone not very covered by official (EDCN) monitoring network. Regarding GBAS, we started from a data set of measurements carried out at the GBAS of Milan-Linate airport where we work on a ground installation (GMS - Ground Monitoring Station) that supervises the GBAS signal and that represent, for our purposes, the Aircraft subsystem. So the set of data collected is to be considered in RTK mode and after the measures session we processed them with the software PEGASUS v 4.11. Both experiences give us the possibility to evaluate the GNSS1 performance that can be achieved.

  • In smart work environment, a company provides employees a flexible work environment for tele-working using mobile phone or portable devices. On the other hand, such environment are exposed to the risks which the attacker can intrude into computer systems or leak personal information of smart-workers' and gain a company's sensitive information. To reduce these risks, the security administrator needs to analyze the usage patterns of employees and detect abnormal behaviors by monitoring VPN(Virtual Private Network) access log. This paper proposes a decision support system that can notify the status by using visualization and similarity measure through clustering analysis. On average, 88.7% of abnormal event can be detected by this proposed method. With this proposed system, the security administrator can detect abnormal behaviors of the employees and prevent account theft.

  • Background: Occupational skin diseases are skin conditions that occur or worsen in relation to work and known to be the second most common type of occupational disease affecting individuals in the United States. In Korea, epidemiological reports related to occupational skin diseases are rare. But, no cases of occupational contact dermatitis caused by welding and grinding work have been reported previously. Case presentation: Nine male workers working in the production department for liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships in Ulsan complained of erythematous papules/patches and itching in various areas of the body after welding and grinding work. The work environment monitoring report revealed that the amount of nickel dust exceeded the time weighted average (TWA) and poor local ventilation status. Based on the symptoms and the overall results of surveys, several tests, and work environment monitoring report, the 2 workers who had positive patch-test reactions to nickel were diagnosed with nickel dust-induced allergic contact dermatitis. The other 7 workers were diagnosed that there was a high probability that they had nickel dust-induced irritant contact dermatitis. The 2 workers who had nickel dust-induced allergic contact dermatitis were recommended to switch their jobs. Conclusions: Nickel is one of the most common cause of allergic contact dermatitis. In this case, the dust was assumed to be created by welding work with a high nickel content new welding rod and subsequent grinding work, and the concentration of this dust exceeded the time weighted average. Thus, it is thought that the nickel dust may have caused contact dermatitis through continuous contact with the workers' exposed skin in a poorly ventilated space. Currently, several domestic shipbuilding companies are manufacturing LNG tankers using a new construction method. Consequently, it is highly likely that similar cases will occur in the future, which makes this case report meaningful.
