  • The Netherlands' contemporary Art Furniture has drawn large attention from design and art fields all around the world because of Dutch designers' intriguing themes and experimental approaches. Its successful achievement not comes from certain policies or personalities, but the result of ceaseless internal criticisms and self examinations. After World War II, Modernism was the most common notion of furniture design for mass production in the Netherlands like other nations, but Dutch designers and critics put modernist canon up for discussion since 1960s. They have searched counter modernist design for expression of human element and warmth using art works, craft, and Postmodernism theory, etc. Throughout design debate of modernism, free design, design as art and conceptual design, now we could observe Dutch designer's unique and distinguished Art Furniture in the influential places. By analyzing the development of the Netherlands' contemporary Art Furniture in chronological sequences, we could understand them better and learn something useful to Art Furniture in South Korea.

  • Frank Lloyd Wright is an architect who established the concept of organic architecture and in his organic architectures, he applied studies on the inflow, growth and development of natural elements of shapes, pursued naturalism in the shapes and functions and connected them organically with each other. His furniture as appeared in his constructions shows geometric plasticity based on naturalism and achieves an integration of shapes, materials and functions while forming a space. The organic nature from the viewpoint of digital which is a new concept of the 21st century is greatly affecting construction and furniture designs. Designs having new organic concepts are emerging in furniture which is organically related with construction to achieve organic harmony with new plastic spaces. Therefore, studies on Wright are more significant as a cornerstone for new theories under development.

  • This study aimed to examine the theoretical consideration and concept of hybrid that could be applicable to wood product design, to analyze design trend according to the morphological transformation by means of combination of hybrid material and function, to understand the correlation between type of wood product and materials and to apply it to the domestic and overseas hybrid concept of wood product design study. A study of assembling output by empirical experiment to embed natural resources into acrylic resin in order to develop wood products was carried out. And an wood product was suggested that satisfied lighting and hanger function through a new wood product design development combined with hanger function and lighting function. Through such process, a new design paradigm was suggested to cope with the periodic trend and to induce mass production of designed product. Thus, this study set a new guideline for activating wood product design and attempted to meet the social demand of encouraging new value creation.

  • In furniture design, it is very important to choose adequate materials. Transparent materials provide expectations and reveals unique effects unlike others. As transparent materials, glass and acrylic have light and fresh impression from their transparency, and are frequently used in structuring neat space. Despite its good merits, glass is not able to satisfy designers desire in making various shape and structure. It has defect in manufacturing process because it requires professional, specialized studio. Compared to glass, acrylic has its merit in processing and stability, and also is very economical. Acrylic is easily used with woodworking tool. In addition, acrylic has unique texture. This study is on the attempt to apply acrylic to the furniture as artistic element.

  • We are currently in the process of reform toward the digital era as information technology constantly advances, and to cope with the change, each industry provides products including furniture that rapidly evolves accordingly. What this leaves us is new, various products on the market, which highlighted ability to rapidly adjust to the change as major competence. In the midst of this, the development field is focusing on producing goods with affordance, more distinct and intuitive design. Cases analyzed in this study show how affordance is applied not only to product designs but our daily lives, and thus, the importance and characteristics of affordance in the modern society. Based on findings, I regarded designs that lead to intuitive understanding of functions and even unconscious use of them the cases with properly applied affordance and presented chair designs.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of Arne Jacobsen's chair design. He was one of the few creators who inscribed his name in both the history of architecture and furniture design. His works reflected a form of "Regional Modernism" in which traditional techniques collide with functionalist beliefs. This grafting of ideas generated a person aesthetics which he used to establish a suitability of scale, detail an program for each design. In the material aspect, he had enjoyed using the plasticity of the plywood, polyurethane, tubular steel and in the formative aspect, organic form is combined with minimalization of material and simplicity. To sum up what is unique about Arne Jacobsen's chair design, it is that it is distinguished by a clear understanding and expression of beauty from nature, a complete understanding of the material used and the melding of traditional and functional techniques to generate organic form.anic form.

  • Handles are very essential element to satisfy function of furniture except for furniture without doors. Moreover, handles of furniture tend to have not only functions for opening and shutting but also decorations for furniture. Among various hardware for furniture, handles are the one who influence furniture's design most. Yet, cases of damages occur due to the fact that there are many copying. Handles have short lives, so that it is economically quiet burden to develop new products in Korea. Therefore, this study aims to inspire necessity of investment for handles and other hardware's development by classifying types of handles, systemizing basic knowledge of design for furniture handles, and realizing the importance of handles within domestic demand.

  • When harmonized with modem design, the Korean traditional lacquered woodenware with a history of about two thousand years has the potential to appeal to the global sense of industrial craftsmanship as it is superior to any in terms of material used and is very friendly environmentally. To maximize this potential, however, it is necessary to develop a firm infrastructure for the supply of lacquer, including the forestation for the lacquer wood, the production of lacquer, the improvement of refining skills, and the development of better paints. Also ways must be found to induce the craftsmanship at the turning lathe to be elevated to a major independent industrial craft. Only then the mass-produced lacquered woodenware for everyday use and as tourist goods, showing the best merits of the Korean lathing technique, will be displayed and accepted with a new appreciation.

  • The Wolseong Wooden moat is a unique example. Which is a vertical wall made of wood. It shows a changing point how to make the wall by digging a hole and stacking stones vertically. This study tried to to make a assumption about the construction process of the wooden structure found in the Wolseong pit moat. I sorted out wooden elements and then analyzing these features and compared with the results of the excavation. After I made 3D modelling in the order to it was made. This moat is not only a function of digging up the ground to trap water, but also a technique of building structures to maintain walls. It is a valuable material that can show the woodworking engineering techniques of the Silla Dynasty.

  • This study attempts to understand the context of shared learning in the trading zone formed by teachers from different backgrounds and the process in which this shared learning varies in the educational context, focusing on the case of 'Woodwork Science Education Study Group.' To do this, data was collected through in-depth interviews with eight teachers who participated in the 'Woodworking Science Education Research Group' and analyzed their responses based on grounded theory. As a result, the causal conditions of the teachers' research group were 'various contexts of entering the trading zone' and the central phenomenon was 'encounter with learning in the trading zone.' Contextual conditions affecting this phenomenon were 'woodwork as a boundary object and individual transfiguration experience,' and action/interaction strategy was 'various efforts and influences in the field.' The intervention condition was 'practical effort and experience in educational field.' Final result in this model is 'the new practice of learning shared in the trading zone.' In selective coating, it was found that the practice of the teacher's research group appears as four types of' 'Extracurricular creative experience type,' 'career education type,' 'curricula education type,' and 'school management type.' The results of this study suggest that the shared learning and antonymous practice among teachers in the teachers' research group as trading zone do not only meet their learning needs but also lead to various teaching practices in the individual teachers' context of education and improve the diversity and quality of education.
