The chemical composition and thermal, crystal characterization of oak mushroom waste were investigated in comparison with those normal oak wood for utilization of cellulose from oak mushroom waste. The oak mushroom waste contained a higher percentage of ash, and hot water extractives than oak wood. This results indicated that the materials inside the body are easily decomposed during the oak mushroom cultivation. The lower percentage of holocellulose and a-cellulose of oak mushroom waste caused by fungal decomposition too. Whereas, the thermal decomposition behavior and crystallinity of oak mushroom waste was similar to that of normal oak wood, which indicated that the cellulose characterization of oak mushroom waste is resistant to fungal decomposition. In additionally, a degree of polymerization of oak mushroom waste must be investigate for examination of cellulose crystalline characterization, especially.
Sound absorption capability and bending strength of laminated ship-building plywood waste of maple and melanti wood were estimated. Sound absorption coefficients of wood had been measured by the two microphone transfer function method and bending strength examined by three point loading. The maximum strength in bending of laminated ship-building plywood waste of maple and melanti wood were 534 and 414 kgf/$cm^2$, respectively. The sound absorption coefficients of laminated ship-building plywood waste were higher than mongolian oak and fiber board, well used construction material. Especially, in the case of laminated ship-building plywood waste of melanti wood, average sound absorption coefficient was about 0.25. It was surmised that the laminated ship-building plywood waste can be used as interior materials because of its good mechanical and sound absorption properties.

Patents in Korea, Japan and the U.S. were searched at the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) of Korea Institute of Patent Information using related keywords in order to analyze the trend of patents on the usage of waste wood. Materials on a total of 77 patents in Korea, 317 patents in Japan, and 316 patents in the U.S. that had been registered as patents as of Dec. 31, 2011 were collected. Among the collected materials, the patents rejected, expired, annulled, withdrawn and waived as well as those which had little relationship with waste wood were excluded and the 71 patents in Korea, 227 patents in Japan and 216 patents in the U.S. were finally selected for analysis. In addition, the properties of the mortar which used waste wood as an alternative for a part of the fine aggregate were tested as a basic study for the usage of waste wood as a lightweight aggregate for concrete. For the test, the waste wood of the pine tree was crushed, sifted through No. 8(2.4 mm) sieve, and then dried for 24 hours at $100{\pm}5^{\circ}C$. As it is known that some kinds of tree prevent the hardening of cement when the wood is mixed with cement, the crushed waste wood in this study was dipped in the water of $20^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$ and then dried up before testing the properties of the mortar to examine the effect of the preliminary treatment of crushed waste wood.

The purpose of this research was to see thermal and breaking type characteristics of waste wood for construction materials using high temperature and pressure equipment. In TG/DTA graph weight of waste wood was steeply decreased at $250^{\circ}C$, it has to be treated below $250^{\circ}C$ for construction materials. In popping test the needle-leaved tree was more broken in texture than the broad-leaved tree, especially, Chamaecyparis obtusa(W-7) was the best. The optimum result was obtained at temp. $200^{\circ}C$, pressure 3MPa among the experimental condition.
Interests have been focused to the renewable energy because energy cost of fossil fuel increased and global climate change caused by CO2 evolution became severe. To overcome these problems, it is essential to develop the energy conversion technologies of renewable resources. Therefore, production and utilization state of wood and woody waste was firstly investigated and then various technologies (pyrolysis, gasification, and combustion) converting the wood and woody waste to energy were summarized. Some case studies of woody waste utilization in europe was introduced with the policy of EU countries. Economical aspect of woody waste was compared with the current fossil fuels and the energy policy of wood and woody waste was suggested.

Activated carbon is carbon produced from carbonaceous source materials, such as coconut shells, coals, and woods. In this study, an activated carbon production system was analyzed by carbonization and activation in terms of environmental impact and human health. The feedstock of wood wastes for the system reduced fossil fuel consumption and disposal costs. Life cycle assessment methodology was used to analyze the environmental impacts of the system, and the functional unit was one tonne of wood wastes. The boundary expansion method was applied to analyze the wood waste recycling process for activated carbon production. An environmental credit was quantified by avoided impact analysis. Specifically, greenhouse gases discharged from 1 kg of activated carbon production system by feeding wood wastes were evaluated. We found that this system reduced global warming potential of approximately $9.69E+00kg\;CO_2-eq$. compared to the process using coals. The environmental benefits for activated carbon production from wood wastes were analyzed in contrast to other disposal methods. The results showed that the activated carbon system using one tonne of wood wastes has an environmental benefit of $163kg\;CO_2-eq$. for reducing global warming potential in comparison with the same amount of wood wastes disposal by landfilling.

In woody waste separated from municipal solid waste, medium density fiberboard was major contributors with particleboard, paper, plywood and log, with different composition based on collected period. In chemical compositional analysis of woody waste, it was similar to softwood based on carbohydrate composition analysis. Based on the carbohydrate composition, saccharified solution from MWW could be good resource for biorefinery.

The overall indicator of microbial activity in the fermentation-extinction reaction of food waste by using bio wood-chips were investigated by considering adenosine tri-phosphate(ATP). Degradation rate of organic compounds, which was represented by chemical oxygen demand(COD) and total nitrogen(TN), was increased with the concentration of adenosine tri-phosphate during fermentation-extinction reaction of food waste by using bio-wood chips. With this view, the ATP would be one of the overall evaluation indicator of organic degradation in the species of bio-wood chip for the fermentation-extinction of food waste.
In this study, surface modification of wood powder by atmospheric pressure plasma treatment was investigated. The composites were manufactured using wood powder and polypropylene(wood powder : PP = 55 wt% : 45 wt%). Atmospheric pressure plasma was treated as condition of 3KV, $17{\pm}1$KHz, 2 g/min. Helium was used as carrier gas and monomer such as hexamethyl-disiloxane(HMDSO) was used to modify surface property by plasma polymerization. The tensile strength of untreated waste wood powder(W3) and homogeneous wood powder(H3) were about 18.5 MPa, 21.5 MPa while the tensile strength of plasma treated waste wood powder(PW3) and homogeneous wood powder(PH3) were about 21.2 MPa, 23.4 MPa, respectively. And tensile strength of W3 and H3 were improved by 14.6% and 8.8%, respectively. From the results for mechanical property, morphological analysis, we obtained improved interfacial bonding of polypropylene and wood powder modified by plasma treatment.
To assign the functionality of the regenerated fiber from waste MDF(wMDF) made of pitch pine, we examined the dyeing characteristics of natural dyes, sappan wood as a polychromatic natural red series, monochromatic gardenia as a yellow series, and indigo blue series. For nonemordanting dye, the colors of regenerated fiber dyed by sappan wood and gardenia were reddish yellow (YR) and yellow (Y) series, respectively, and dyeing conditions were appropriate a 30 ~ 50 g/L of dyeing materials at 60 ℃ for 60minutes of dyeing time. We obtained regenerated woody dyed fibers (Re-WDF), YR to the red (R) series by premordanting with Al and Cu mordant for sappan wood and the purplish red (RP) series by Fe premordanting. In the case of gardenia, only Y series colors were developed in nonemordanting dye or all three mordants. Indigo dye produced Re-WDF with greenish yellow (GY) tone at 1%, green (G) tone at 3%, and blue (B) tone at 5% concentration or more. Re-WDF with indigo showed the best light fastness followed by sappan wood and gardenia. In particular, the light fastness of Re-WDF with gardenia was very poor. The light fastness was somewhat improved by premordanting(Fe>Cu>Al) both sappan wood and gardenia dyes.
