  • Purpose: This study determined the correlation between nurses' critical thinking disposition; problem solving process; and nursing performance. It also examined the impact of critical thinking disposition and problem solving process on nursing performance. Methods: The data was collected from 419 nurses. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, scheffe test, pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: Nursing performance showed that there were differences according to age, marital status, educational level, total number of years in the career and the length of employment in the present department. The problem solving process showed differences in the educational level. Critical thinking disposition showed differences according to age, educational level and total number of years in the career. Problem solving process and nursing performance showed a positive relationship whereas critical thinking disposition and nurses' performance showed a positive relationship. Factors affecting nursing performance, were nurses' age, duration of employment in the present department, problem solving process and critical thinking disposition. This model was statistically significant and showed 22.1% of the total variance. Conclusion: The attention of nursing administrators should be drawn to the consideration that a certain amount of experience in the current department is positively related to nursing performance. Furthermore, in order to provide a improvement in professional nursing performance, educational programs towards nurses' critical thinking disposition and problem solving process should be provided.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a cultural competence scale for nurses regarding the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and to test its validity and reliability. Methods: The study adhered to the 8-step process outlined by DeVellis, with an initial set of 25 items derived through a literature review and individual interviews. Following an expert validity assessment, 24 items were validated. Subsequently, a preliminary survey was conducted among 23 nurses with experience caring for LGBT patients. Data were then collected from a final sample of 322 nurses using the 24 items. Item analysis, item-total score correlation, examination of construct and convergent validity, and reliability testing were performed. Results: The item-level content validity index exceeded .80, and the explanatory power of the construct validity was 63.63%. The factor loadings varied between 0.57 and 0.80. The scale comprised five factors: cultural skills, with seven items; cultural awareness, with five items; cultural encounters, with three items; cultural pursuit, with three items; and cultural knowledge, with three items; totaling 21 items. Convergent validity demonstrated a high correlation, affirming the scale's validity. Internal consistency analysis yielded an overall reliability coefficient of 0.97, signifying very high reliability. Each item is scored from 1 to 6 (total score range, 21-126), with higher scores reflecting greater cultural competence in LGBT care. Conclusion: This scale facilitates the measurement of LGBT cultural competence among nurses. Therefore, its use should provide foundational data to support LGBT-focused nursing education programs.

All was to become a member of ICN. It continued 15 years and was quite active. But after the half of 1930s Japan's ruling policy became more and more suppressive and western missionaries were expelled from Korea so it could not but discontinue it's activities. Choseon Ganhoboohoiphoi(朝鮮觸護續協會) was organized and lead by Korean nurses. The aim of it was to do the role of nurses by social activities. So it tried health education for the public, It continued only about 2 years, But the leaders of Choseon Ganhoboohoiphoi moved to women's liberation movement and Korean liberation movement and tried to solve the problems of colonized women. The organizations and activities of Choseon Ganhoboohoi and Choseon Ganhoboohoi were two trends to develop Korean nursing during Japaneses Colonial period. The former asked for international cognizance by the raise of nursing standard, and the latter asked for national cognizance by social activities. Although two nurses' associations were different in their ways but quite same in the aspect that both tried for the development of nursing in Korea. But the colonial situation prevented them from continuing their activities. This means that the colonial situation of national level influenced deeply on the development of nursing profession.

  • Purpose: Maternal Fetal Intensive Care Unit (MFICU), which provides intensive care to high-risk mothers with increasing maternal age and high-risk newborns, has become a new field of nursing work in South Korea. The present study was conducted to identify the educational needs and self-assessing clinical competence of nurses in MFICU. Methods: The education needs and competencies of MFICU nurses were measured through prepared questionnaires by researchers based on the previous studies on job analysis of nurses in MFICU. Data were collected from January 2019 to March 2019. The study involved 168 nurses working in MFICUs at 12 hospitals nationwide as study subjects. The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 23.0 program. Results: The education needs of nurses in MFICU had an average of 4.21 points (${\pm}0.50$) and their nursing competence was average 3.38 points (${\pm}0.60$). The items reported as high education needs but low competency by nurses in MFICU were as following: 'postpartum hemorrhage and shock,' 'cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for neonate,' 'CPR during pregnancy,' 'disseminated intravascular coagulation,' 'sepsis,' and 'mechanical ventilation during pregnancy.' Conclusion: Based on these results, it is proposed that a comprehensive education program for nurses in MFICU should be developed by considering low capabilities among MFICU nurses as a priority factor.
