The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of hardiness, knowledge of menopause, menopausal management of the middle aged women to identify the variables that show differences in the hardiness, knowledge of menopause and menopausal management of middle aged women and to investigate the relation ship among hardiness, menopausal knowledge and menopausal management of the middle aged women. The subjects were 132 middle-aged women and belonged to the age between 40 and 60. They were selected in Pusan, Korea. Data were collected from Oct. to Nov., 1998 by means of a structured questionnaire. The instruments used for this were the hardiness scale developed by Song In Sook and Song Ae Ri and the menopausal management scale developed by Song Ae Ri. The results were as follows 1. The mean score of hardiness was 2.83, in minimum score 1.24 tomaximun score 5.04. The mean score of knowledge of menopausal was 0.68, in minimum score 0.21 to maximum score 0.71. the mean score of menopausal management was 2.26, in minimum score 1.35 to maximum score 3.18. 2. In the relation between social demographic and hardiness there were significant differences in the health condition, income, supportive person. In relation between social demographic and menopausal knowledge there were significant differences in the health condition, family members. In the menopausal management there was significant differences in the marital state. 3. There was significant correlation between the hardiness and menopausal management of middle aged women (r=-0.208, p=0.017). 4. There was not significant correlation between the knowledge of menopause and menopausal management (r=0.001, p=0.992). These findings suggest the need to develop nursing strategy to improve the power of hardiness in middle aged women. hardiness is important to improve the menopausal management of middle aged women.
Purpose: To determine association of contraceptive knowledge, sexual double standard, and contraceptive self-efficacy among unmarried women in their 30s and 40s. Methods: With a survey design, data were collected from 119 unmarried women in their 30s and 40s in G city of Korea from September 2017 to March 2018. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Contraceptive knowledge, sexual double standard, and contraceptive self-efficacy scores of participants were $8.97{\pm}2.22$, $18.54{\pm}5.57$, and $45.84{\pm}6.90$, respectively. Contraceptive self-efficacy was negatively correlated with sexual double standard. Factors influencing contraceptive self-efficacy were sexual double standard (${\beta}=-.26$, p=.003), existence of boyfriend (${\beta}=.25$, p=.004), and contraceptive education need for adults (${\beta}=.17$, p=.044). They explained 19% of contraceptive self-efficacy of participants. Conclusion: To increase contraceptive self-efficacy of unmarried women in their 30s and 40s, lowering sexual double standard and developing customized contraceptive education according to age and knowledge level are needed. Research on factors related to contraceptive self-efficacy of unmarried women in their 30s and 40s from various regions are also needed in the future.
Purpose: This study investigated knowledge of and attitudes toward advance directives (ADs) among middle-aged women in South Korea, their willingness to write ADs in the future, and the factors related to knowledge of and attitudes toward ADs. Methods: Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire completed by 154 middle-aged women aged 50 to 64 from February to March 2020. The questionnaire asked about participants' knowledge of and attitude toward ADs, willingness to write ADs in the future, experiences with life-sustaining treatment within their families, experience making decisions about life-sustaining treatment, and demographic characteristics. Results: Scores for both knowledge of and attitude toward ADs were relatively high. About 60% of participants gave wrong answers when asked if attorneys were required for writing ADs. A higher knowledge score was significantly associated with a higher attitude score (r=0.227, P<0.01). The women were more likely to be willing to write ADs in the future when they reported a middle income level rather than a lower income level (odds ratio [OR]=5.952, P<0.01), considered themselves unhealthy (OR=5.873, P<0.01), and graduated college or higher (OR=4.096, P<0.05). Furthermore, women who thought that ADs would have an impact on treatment (OR=1.869, P<0.05) and on their families (OR=1.447, P<0.05) were more likely to be willing to write an AD. Conclusion: This study shows that wrong information about ADs persists among middle-aged women, and significant factors associated with knowledge of and attitude toward ADs were identified. Targeted education programs about ADs need to be developed for middle-aged women.
The Pap smear test is recommended for early diagnosis of cervical cancer. The aim of this study was to assess knowledge and behavior regarding the Pap smear test based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) in women referred to premarital counseling classes, Hamadan, Iran. This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 330 women, who were allocated randomly to two case and control groups (n=165). Two educational session classes were performed in the case group. Two stages in before and after intervention groups were evaluated. Analysis of data was performed by SPSS/16.0, using t-test, $x^2$, and McNemar's test. P-values <0.05 were regarded as significant. There was no significant difference between the mean scores of the various structures of this model in two groups before the intervention. However, after the intervention there were significant increase in mean score of knowledge and all variables of HBM in the intervention group(P<0.001). The findings of this study highlight the important role of education about cervical cancer on changing women's beliefs about cervical screening.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of an osteoporosis prevention health education on know ledge, health beliefs, self-efficacy and preventive health behaviors of women in an urban area. Methods: A one- group pre-test-post-test design was conducted to identify the effects of an osteoporosis prevention health education. The study was conducted between April and November 2008, and recruited 98 women in Seoul. All participants completed the pretest and posttest measures with self-administered questionaire: Osteoporosis Knowledge Test, Osteoporosis Health Belief Scale, Osteoporosis Self-Efficacy Scale and Osteoporosis Preventive Health Behaviors Survey. Results: The result of the paired t-test revealed statistically significant difference in the perceived susceptibility and perceived benefits of osteoporosis and osteoporosis preventive behaviors between pretest and posttest measures. However, the difference in knowledge and self-efficacy between the pretest and posttest measures was not statistically significant. Conclusions: These finding indicate the need for further health education to increase osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, self-efficacy and osteoporosis preventive health behaviors and provide guidance for developing effective osteoporosis prevention health education strategies.
Objectives: This study aimed to verify the relations of COVID-19 infection-related knowledge, dental infection control performance, and psychosocial health of dental hygienists. Methods: From the data was analyzed through the frequency analysis, t-test, one way ANOVA, and pearson's correlation analysis with a total of 198 dental hygienists using SPSS Statistics 21.0. Results: The correct answer rate for knowledge about COVID-19 was higher with a bachelor's degree or higher. Thus, when the level of education was higher, the performance was also high (p<0.01). COVID-19 infection control performance was highly shown in case of high age (4.43) (p<0.05) and the married (4.42) (p<0.01). Infection control performance was high when they had an educational experience of COVID-19 infection control (4.46), and when the infection control guidebooks were equipped in their workplaces (p<0.001). Degree of psychosocial health of research subjects was shown in the order of potential stress (60.6%), high-risk stress (23.7%), and healthy (15.7%). Infection control performance was higher, the psychosocial health was healthy. Conclusions: For the response to COVID-19 infectious disease and the preparation for mutated viruses and new infectious diseases in the future, it would be necessary to establish the concrete measures for establishing the strict infection control system for dental clinics and also enhancing the psychosocial health of dental hygienists.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the current status of effective folic acid intake and the level of folic acid knowledge of Chinese pregnant women and to analyze the relationship between effective folic acid intake and folic acid knowledge. Methods: From November 2021 to May 2022, 140 pregnant women at Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital in the Chinese province of Shandong, answered questions about their general characteristics, folic acid intake, and folic acid knowledge. The data were analyzed using the t-test, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis, and were presented with frequency with percentage or mean±standard deviation. Results: Only 16.4% of the pregnant women (n=23) took folic acid effectively, using the following four criteria. Of all pregnant women who took folic acid, 72.2% took folic acid starting 1 month before pregnancy, 70.8% took folic acid up to 3 months after pregnancy, 36.8% took 400 ㎍ every time, and 78.6% took folic acid more than 24 days every month. The score for folic acid knowledge was relatively high (5.61±2.18 on a scale of 0-9). A higher folic acid knowledge score correlated with more effective folic acid intake (t=4.10, p<.001). Conclusions: Our study shows that the current recommendations to prevent neural tube defects through effective folic acid intake supplementation are not being fully implemented in China. Furthermore, folic acid knowledge was positively correlated with the effectiveness of its intake. Future education related to effective folic acid intake should emphasize the four methods of effective folic acid intake, especially regarding the recommended dose of 400 ㎍ every time.
This survey was carried out to Investigate the effect of the daily average nutrient intakes, self-consciousness of nutrition knowledge and health on the nutrition knowledge and food habits between college women and their own mothers, Questionnaires were completed by 214 college women who do major in nutrition and by 173 their mothers. The college women scored significantly higher than that of their mothers In the nutrition knowledge. And their mothers scored significantly higher than that of college women in the food habits. Most of the subjects belonged to 'Fair' food habit group, which was considered to be relatively good. The correlation of the scores between nutrition knowledge and food habits of the college women and their mothers was low. The daily average nutrient Intakes of all women were higher than the recommended dietary allowance except for that of Iron. There was a significant and negative correlation between the nutrition knowledge score and daily average nutrient intakes in college women. But there was not a significant correlation in the nutrient intakes in their mothers. And also there was a significant and positive correlation between food habits score in their mothers but there was not a significant correlation score in college women. The higher the women had a self-consciousness of health, the higher their mothers had a food habit score, but they had daily average nutrient intakes were lower than their daughter's(college women), And the women that had a self-consciousness of health were healthier, daily nutrient intakes in their own mothers were higher in the food habits scores than that of the college women. The main curriculum for a good food habits is that it is important that one has a responsible nutrition education. For the improvement of nutrition education program we should transmit the nutritional information through an effective mass media(i. e. Radio, TV, Newspaper).
Purpose: This study was done to develop a reproductive health program to improve reproductive health of women immigrants. Methods: The participants in the study were 58 immigrant women who lived in Vietnam, China, Philippines, or Cambodia before marriage. They were assigned to the experiment group (n=29) or the control group (n=29). The reproductive health program for this study consisted of reproductive health education, health counseling, phone monitoring, and emotional support based on Cox (1982)'s Interaction Model of Client Health Behavior and was implemented for four weeks. Results: There were significant differences in reproductive health knowledge (t=9.78, p<.001), reproductive health attitude (t=6.59, p<.001), and reproductive health behavior (t=5.11, p<.001) within and between groups after the reproductive health program. But there were no significant differences in clinical indicators between the two groups. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the that reproductive health program for the women immigrants is effective in terms of reproductive health knowledge, reproductive health attitude and reproductive health behaviors. Therefore, nurses in public and private facilities, such as multicultural centers and public health centers in each community, should develop strategies to expand and provide reproductive health programs for women immigrants.
Objective: The aims of this study were to explore Turkish women's knowledge, behavior and beliefs related to cervical cancer and screening. Methods: The study was performed in two cities in the East of Turkey between September 2009 and April 2010, with a sampling group of 387 women. Data were collected by means of an interview form with the Health Belief Model Scale for Cervical Cancer and Pap Smear Test - Turkish Version. Results: Women in the research group were found to have poor knowledge, inadequate health behavior and low/medium level false beliefs regarding cervical cancer screening. There was relation between health beliefs and characteristics of women and particularly education (F = 10.80, p = 0.01). Similarly, it was found that Pap smear barriers were influenced by demographic characteristics and that women with low-level education (p = 0.001), divorced women (p = 0.05), women with low-income(p = 0.05), women who gave their first birth when they were 18 or younger (p = 0.05) and women not applying any contraceptive method at all (p = 0.01) were determined to have negative Pap smear barriers. Conclusions: Primarily the knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of women in the target group should be evaluated to increase their participation in cervical cancer screening and to prepare effective education strategies.
