Optical wireless power transmission (OWPT) is a good candidate for long-distance underwater wireless power transmission. In this work we investigate the transmission efficiency of underwater OWPT, depending on the operating wavelength. We consider four operating wavelengths: infrared, red, green, and blue. We also consider the cases of pure water and sea water for the working conditions. Our results show that it is necessary to select the operating wavelength of underwater OWPT according to the transmission distance and water type of the target application.

Recently, wireless power transfer technology is ready to be commercialized in consumer electronics. It draws attention from not only experts but also public because of its convenience and huge market. However, previous technologies such as magnetic resonance and induction coupling have limited applications because of its short transfer distance compared to device size and magnetic intensity limitation on the safety of body exposure. As an alternative, ultrasonic wireless power transfer technology is proposed. The ultrasonic wireless power transfer system is composed of transmitter which converts electrical energy to ultrasonic energy and receiver which converts the ultrasonic energy to the electrical energy again. This paper is focused on the development of high energy conversion efficiency of ultrasonic transmitter. Optimal transfer frequency is calculated based on the acoustic radiation and damping effect. The transmitter is designed through numerical analysis, and is manufactured to match the optimal transfer frequency with the size of 100 mm diameter, 12.2 mm thickness plate. The energy conversion efficiency of about 13.6 % at 2 m distance is obtained, experimentally. This result is quite high considered with the device size and the power transfering distance.
The characteristics of wireless power transfer is achieved at high frequencies in short range magnetic resonant wireless power transfer system. Use PFC pre-regulator for power supply of high frequency inverter. Supplied power to high power factor and high efficiency. Accordingly, the input voltage is 110V-220V. The designed of 175W Class with the output voltage of 385V. As a experiment result, maximum power factor and maximum efficiency measured 99% and 97% respectively. Therefore, in this paper, the design of a inductor which is the most important element in PFC converter for short range magnetic resonance wireless power transfer system was studied. Used an CS330125 core through the designed of 175W class. Examination results power loss was 0.2%.

This paper presents a design of a wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonant coupling technology with in-band wireless communication. To increase the transmission distance and compensate for the change in the effective capacitance due to the varying distance, the proposed system used a loop antenna with a selectable capacitor array. Because the increased transmission distance enables multiple charging, we added a communication protocol operated at the same frequency band to manage a network and control power circuits. In order to achieve the efficient bandwidth in both power transfer mode and communication mode, the S-parameters of the loop antennas are adjusted by switching a series resistor. Our test results showed that the loop antenna achieved a high Q factor in power transfer mode and enough passband in communication mode.

In this paper, wireless power transfer system using the magnetic resonance was designed and applied to LED lighting for implementation of wireless lighting. This lighting was made by the converted DC driving type and the direct AC driving type. In the former, transferred AC power was rectified into DC and regulated to the specified voltage value, which leads to produce the loss at the rectifying and regulating circuit. In the latter, wireless-transferred AC power was directly applied to LED, which get rid of the loss derived from the additional circuit. For the efficiency-comparison between the former and the latter, the power at each stage was measured when the same optical output radiated from LED lighting part. The result revealed that the direct AC driving type had 18% higher efficiency than the DC driving type and confirmed that LED lighting using magnetic resonance wireless power transfer system can be efficient by direct AC power supply. And the direct AC driving type had the simple circuit structure and the simple LED lighting formation, so this can leads to various application.
An online estimation method for wireless power transfer (WPT) systems is presented without using any measurement of the secondary side or the load. This parameter estimation method can be applied with a controlling strategy that removes both the receiving terminal controller and the wireless communication. This improves the reliability of the system while reducing its costs and size. In a wireless power transfer system with an LCCL impedance matching circuit under a rectifier load, the actual load value, voltage/current and mutual inductance can be reflected through reflected impedance measuring at the primary side. The proposed method can calculate the phase angle tangent value of the secondary loop circuit impedance via the reflected impedance, which is unrelated to the mutual inductance. Then the load value can be determined based on the relationships between the load value and the secondary loop impedance. After that, the mutual inductance and transfer efficiency can be computed. According to the primary side voltage and current, the load voltage and current can also be detected in real-time. Experiments have verified that high estimation accuracy can be achieved with the proposed method. A single-controller based on the proposed parameter estimation method is established to achieve constant current control over a WPT system.

The design methodology of an adequate input voltage and magnetizing inductance to minimize reactive power is suggested to design a wireless power transfer (WPT) converter for high-power transfer efficiency. To increase the magnetizing inductance, the turn number of the WPT coil is increased, thus causing high parasitic resistance in the WPT coil. Moreover, the high coil resistance produces high conduction loss in the transfer and receive coils. Therefore, the analysis of conduction loss is used in the design of the WPT coil and the operating point of the WPT converter. To verify the proposed design methodology, the mathematical analysis of the conduction loss is presented by experimental results.

The On-line Electric Vehicle (OLEV) is an electric transport system in which the vehicle's power is transferred wirelessly from power lines underneath the surface of the road. Advantages of the OLEV include reducing battery size and cost to about 20 percent of that of conventional battery-powered electric vehicles, thereby minimizing the vehicle's weight and price, as well as the cost of charging the system. In this paper, we introduce a wireless power transfer mechanism to maximize the electrical performance of the power transfer system. Power transfer capacity, power transfer efficiency, and magnitude of leakage in the electromagnetic field (EMF) are analyzed, and the optimization methodology of the design parameters is discussed.

This paper presents a survey of recent wireless power transfer systems. The issue of wireless power transfer is to achieve a highly efficient system with small positioning errors of the facilities setting. Several theories have been presented to obtain precise system design. This paper presents a summary of design theory for short range power transfer systems and detailed formulations based on a circuit model and an array of infinitesimal dipoles. In addition to these theories, this paper introduces a coil array scheme for improving the efficiency for off axis coils. In the microwave range, tightly coupled resonators provide a highly efficient power transfer system. This paper present san-overlay resonator array consisting of half wavelength microstrip line resonators on the substrate with electromagnetically coupled parasitic elements placed above the bottom resonators. The tight couplings between the waveguide and the load resonator give strong power transmission and achieve a highly efficient system, and enables a contact-less power transfer railroad. Its basic theory and a demonstration of a toy vehicle operating with this system are presented. In the last topic of this paper, harmonic suppression from the rectenna is discussed with respect to acircular microstrip antenna with slits and stubs.

A novel bidirectional magnetic wireless communication system is proposed in this study. This system provides the communication capability between the source and load sides by high-frequency signal while wireless power is transferred. Contrary to the conventional wireless communication systems using complex IC circuit and active components, the proposed system is simply composed of passive components. It is practical and beneficial for environmental robustness, cost effectiveness, and simple implementation. The detailed static analysis of the proposed system for power and communication lines is established. The proposed system is experimentally verified, and results show that a 0.1 voltage gain for communication line is obtained while a 2.0 voltage gain for the power line is achieved. The proposed system is adequate for practical applications as it allows the inductive power transfer system to wirelessly and easily communicate between the source and load sides.
