  • Since WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) applied to their application areas such as smart home, smart factory, environment monitoring, etc., depend on sensor data, the sensor data is the most important among WSN components. The resources of each node consisting of WSN are extremely limited in energy, hardware and so on. Due to these limitation, communication failure probabilities become much higher and the communication failure causes data loss to occur. For this reason, this paper proposes 2MC (Maximum/Minimum Compression) that is a method to compress sensor data by selecting circular queue-based maximum/minimum sensor data values. Our proposed method reduces sensor data losses and value errors when they are recovered. Experimental results of 2MC method show the maximum/minimum 35% reduction efficiency in average sensor data accumulation error rate after the 3 times compression, comparing with CQP (Circular Queue Compression based on Period) after the compressed data recovering.

  • The stability guarantee of wireless network based control systems is still challenging due to the lossy links and node failures. This paper proposes a hierarchical cluster-based network protocol called robust wireless sensor and actuator network (R-WSAN) by combining time, channel, and space resource diversity. R-WSAN includes a scheduling algorithm to support the network resource allocation and a control task sharing scheme to maintain the control stability of multiple plants. R-WSAN was implemented on a real test-bed using Zolertia RE-Mote embedded hardware platform running the Contiki-NG operating system. Our experimental results demonstrate that R-WSAN provides highly reliable and robust performance against lossy links and node failures. Furthermore, the proposed scheduling algorithm and the task sharing scheme meet the stability requirement of control systems, even if the controller fails to support the control task.

  • The idea of the Internet of Things as a platform on the Smart Campus has become increasingly popular. It requires an infrastructure consisting of communication networks, sensor nodes and gateways to connect to the Internet. Each sensor node is responsible for gathering data from the environment. This document outlines a network of wireless sensors on the Internet for the application of Smart Campus monitoring. Wireless sensor network Monitoring have become a complete solution to using a low power implementation and integrated systems. The numerous restrictions however result from the low communication range, the limited computing power, the lack of availability of the network protocol, the lack of programming security and the security failures in the areas of confidentiality, integrity and availability. A new security technique and its functionality for WSNM nodes developed. Development in the research of a secure network and suggestions for avoiding denial of service (DOS) and complexity attacks. These systems if properly implemented can provide an energy efficiency mechanism through pre-allocation and a new key from key management models with a secure routine algorithm.

  • In a marine ubiquitous sensor network (USN) system using expensive sensors in the harsh ocean environment, it is very important to discover failures and devise recovery techniques to deal with such failures. Therefore, in order to perform failure modeling, this study analyzes the USN-based real-time water quality monitoring service of the Gaduri Aqua Farms at Songdo Island of Yeosu, South Korea and devises methods of discovery and recovery of failure by classifying the types of failure into system element failure, communication failure, and data failure. In particular, to solve problems from the perspective of data, this study defines data integrity and data consistency for use in identifying data failure. This study, by identifying the exact type of failure through analysis of the cause of failure, proposes criteria for performing relevant recovery. In addition, the experiments have been made to suggest the duration as to how long the data should be stored in the gateway when such a data failure occurs.

  • Multipath routing is one of challenging issues for improving the reliability of end-to-end data delivery in wireless sensor networks. Recently, a disjointedness and management of path have been studying to enhance the robustness and efficiency of the multipath routing. However, previous multipath routing protocols exploit the disjointed multipath construction method that is not to consider the wireless communication environment. In addition, if a path failures is occurred due to the node or link failures in the irregular network environment, they maintain the multipath through the simple method that to construct a new extra path. Even some of them have no a method. In order to cope with the insufficiency of path management, a hole detouring scheme, to bypass the failures area and construct the new paths, was proposed. However, it also has the problem that requires a heavy cost and a delivery suspension to the some or all paths in the hole detouring process due to the centralized and inflexible path management. Due to these limitations and problems, the previous protocols may lead to the degradation of data delivery reliability and the long delay of emergency data delivery. Thus, we propose a flexible disjoint multipath routing protocol which constructs the radio disjoint multipath by considering irregular and constrained wireless sensor networks. It also exploits a localized management based on the path priority in order to efficiently maintain the flexible disjoint multipath. We perform the simulation to evaluate the performance of the proposed method.

  • Recently, energy harvesting technology has been integrated into wireless sensor networks to ameliorate the nodes' energy limitation problem. In theory, the wireless sensor node equipped with an energy harvesting module can work permanently until hardware failures happen. However, due to the change of power supply, the traditional hierarchical network routing protocol can not be effectively adopted in energy harvesting wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we improve the Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol to make it suitable for the energy harvesting wireless sensor networks. Specifically, the cluster heads are selected according to the estimation of nodes' harvested energy and consumed energy. Preference is given to the nodes with high harvested energy while taking the energy consumption rate into account. The utilization of harvested energy is mathematically formulated as a max-min optimization problem which maximizes the minimum energy conservation of each node. We have proved that maximizing the minimum energy conservation is an NP-hard problem theoretically. Thus, a polynomial time algorithm has been proposed to derive the near-optimal performance. Extensive simulation results show that our proposed routing scheme outperforms previous works in terms of energy conservation and balanced distribution.

  • In a wireless network, handover latency is very important in supporting user mobility with the required quality of service (QoS). In view of this many schemes have been developed which aim to reduce the handover latency. The Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) approach is one such scheme which reduces the high handover latency that arises when mobile nodes perform frequent handover in Mobile IPv6 wireless networks. Although HMIPv6 reduces handoff latency, failures in the mobility anchor point (MAP) results in severe disruption or total disconnection that can seriously affect user satisfaction in ongoing sessions between the mobile and its correspondent nodes. HMIPv6 can avoid this situation by using more than one mobility anchor point for each link. In [3], an improved Robust Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (RH-MIPv6) scheme is presented which enhances the HMIPv6 method by providing a fault-tolerant mobile service using two different MAPs (Primary and Secondary). It has been shown that the RH-MIPv6 scheme can achieve approximately 60% faster recovery times compared with the standard HMIPv6 approach. However, if mobile nodes perform frequent handover in RH-MIPv6, these changes incur a high communication overhead which is configured by two local binding update units (LBUs) as to two MAPs. To reduce this communication overhead, a new cost-reduced binding update scheme is proposed here, which reduces the communication overhead compared to previous schemes, by using an increased number of MAP switches. Using this new proposed method, it is shown that there is a 19.6% performance improvement in terms of the total handover latency.

  • The field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is gaining popularity in industrial automation such as nuclear power plant instrumentation and control (I&C) systems due to the benefits of having non-existence of operating system, minimum software errors, and minimum common reason failures. Separate functions can be processed individually and in parallel on the same integrated circuit using FPGAs in comparison to the conventional microprocessor-based systems used in any plant operations. The use of FPGAs offers the potential to minimize complexity and the accompanying difficulty of securing regulatory approval, as well as provide superior protection against obsolescence. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a new technology for acquiring and processing plant data wirelessly in which sensor nodes are configured for real-time signal processing, data acquisition, and monitoring. ZigBee (IEEE 802.15.4) is an open worldwide standard for minimum power, low-cost machine-to-machine (M2M), and internet of things (IoT) enabled wireless network communication. It is always a challenge to follow the specific topology when different Zigbee nodes are placed in a large network such as a plant. The research article focuses on the hardware chip design of different topological structures supported by ZigBee that can be used for monitoring and controlling the different operations of the plant and evaluates the performance in Vitex-5 FPGA hardware. The research work presents a strategy for configuring FPGA with ZigBee sensor nodes when communicating in a large area such as an industrial plant for real-time monitoring.

  • In wireless networks environment, there are attempts for constructing systems through which we can monitor and control various electronic devices used in large buildings at remoteness by using Zigbee protocol. Since address assignment method of DAA in Zigbee has a depth restriction, we cannot construct a network in large buildings. And also communication failures are frequent in a large network since broadcast storm can be occurred due to frequent broadcasts among a lot of nodes at AODV routing used in Zigbee. In order to solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel protocol which has improved the restriction of depth by using a fixed address assignment method, and has enhanced the broadcast occurrence by devising a static routing method to a packet movement between floors. Regardless of entire network, additionally, this was to enable internal communication reliably by composing an independent PAN. Specially, in this paper, we implemented the proposed wireless protocol and proved stability and practicality through experiment appliances of control of devices established in a large building.
