  • Route discovery in wireless mobile networks requires a considerable amount of resources due to the mobility of the hosts. Therefore, it would be wise to utilize the effort already invested in existing paths. This paper proposes an efficient way to reuse, whenever possible, existing paths when a new path is being established. In our proposed algorithm, called Route Reutilization Routing (RRR), the reusability is accomplished by the notion of the dynamic proactive zones (DPZ), through which nearby existing path information is disseminated. By utilizing the information stored in DPZs, RRR can achieve considerable savings over other on-demand routing algorithms that use flooding. The unique feature of the proposed algorithm is that DPZs are created and destroyed dynamically around the existing paths, whereas proactive zones are formed around the nodes throughout the network in other route finding algorithms. Even though using DPZs may not result in the shortest path between source and destination, simulation results show the considerable reduction in traffic needed to find a path and therefore increases the available bandwidth for data transmission.

  • Problems encountered in IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) design are interferences from neighboring or hidden nodes and collision from simultaneous transmissions within the same contention floors. This paper presents the selective decoding schemes in MAC protocol for multiple input multiple output ad-hoc networks. It is able to mitigate interferences by using a developed minimum mean-squared error technique. This interference mitigation combined with the maximum likelihood decoding schemes for the Alamouti coding enables the receiver to decode and differentiate the desired data streams from co-channel data streams. As a result, it allows a pair of simultaneous transmissions to the same or different nodes which yields the network utilization increase. Moreover, the presented three decoding schemes and time line operations are optimally selected corresponding to the transmission demand of neighboring nodes to avoid collision. The selection is determined by the number of request to send (RTS) packets and the type of clear to send packets. Both theoretical channel capacity and simulation results show that the proposed selective decoding scheme MAC protocol outperforms the mitigation interference using multiple antennas and the parallel RTS processing protocols for the cases of (1) single data stream and (2) two independent data streams which are simultaneously transmitted by two independent transmitters.

  • Directional MAC protocols have drawn great attentions recently in super high speed wireless local/personal area networks due to their higher antenna gain, better spatial reuse, longer transmission range, and lower interference. Despite of these merits, directional MAC protocols suffer from deafness problem. The deafness problem occurs if a node does not answer an RTS frame addressed to it. To overcome this problem, directional MAC protocols have aimed at avoiding the deafness problem using multiple control frames or advance notice techniques or distinguishing deafness from collision. In this paper, we analyze the performance of these schemes in deafness environments with some scenarios. Through performance analysis, we compare the performance of these schemes through evaluating actual network throughput.

  • To ensure accurate measurements of wireless network performance, it should be collected real-time data which are transmitted between a large number of nodes in the actual network environment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop simulation tool for finding optimal network system design method such as media access control, routing technique, ad-hoc algorithm of node deployment while overcoming spatial and temporal constraints. Our research attempts to provide an improved architecture and design method of simulation tool for wireless network is an application of multi-threading technique in these issues. We finally show that usability of the proposed simulator by comparing results derived from same test environment in the wireless LAN model of our simulator and widely used network simulation package, NS-2.

  • Since the wireless communications have a limited transmission, the devices just around a master node can exchange data. Though Bluetooth and Zigbee support ad hoc, they are not appropriate for real-time voice communications. In this paper, we present a TDMA-based relay protocol for several users to communicate simultaneously. The proposed protocol can relay data or voice to other nodes in real-time by the multi-hop transmission method using TDMA. And the proposed protocol improves the network performance by allocating different frequencies to the slaves depending on the routing path scheduled by the routing table. NS-2 simulation shows that the performance of the proposed protocol is good in terms of the transmission delay and pecket loss probability in the real-time voice transmission.

  • This paper describes the design and performance of a secure routing protocol with time-space cryptography for mobile ad-hoc networks. The proposed time-space scheme works in the time domain for key distribution between source and destination as well as in the space domain for intrusion detection along the route between them. For data authentication, it relies on the symmetric key cryptography due to high efficiency and a secret key is distributed using a time difference from the source to the destination. Also, a one-way hash chain is formed on a hop-by-hop basis to prevent a compromised node or an intruder from manipulating the routing information. In order to evaluate the performance of our routing protocol, we compare it with the existing AODV protocol by simulation under the same conditions. The proposed protocol has been validated using the ns-2 network simulator with wireless and mobility extensions.

  • It is very hard, but important to sustain path stability for a reliable communication in mobile ad hoc networks. We propose a novel source routing protocol that establishes a group path with virtual multiple paths to enable a robust communication. The entire mobile nodes form a disjoint set of clusters: Each has its clusterhead as a cluster leader and a unique cluster label to identify itself from other clusters. A group path is a sequence of cluster labels instead of nodes and the nodes with the same label collaborate to deliver packets to a node with next label on the group path. We prove by resorting to simulation that our proposed protocol outperforms the existing key routing protocols, even for a network with a high node mobility and a high traffic.

  • End-to-end path setup and maintenance are very important for mobile ad-hoc wireless communications, because of the mobility and the limited battery capacity of the nodes in the networks. the AODV routing protocol is the one of mary proposed protocols. However, there are route failure problem with the Proposed protocols between intermediate nodes due to such mobility and exhausted battery characteristics, and this is because only the shortest hop count is considered for the route setup. If route failure happens. Problem such as the waste of bandwidth and the increment of the energy consumption occur because of the discarding data packets in the intermediate nodes and the path re-setup process required by the source node. In addition, it obviously causes the network lifetime to be shortened. This paper proposes a routing protocol based on the AODV routing protocol that it makes use of the remaining energy, signal strength and SNR of the MAC layer resources to setup a path.

  • A number of routing algorithms have been studied for wireless mobile ad-hoc network. Among them, the AODV routing algorithm with on-demand method periodically transmits hello message and monitors link state during data transmission in order to maintain routing paths. When a path is disconnected, a node that senses it transmits a RERR packet to the transmitting node or transmits a RREQ locally so that the path could be repaired. With that, the control packet such as a RREQ is broadcast, which causes the consumption of bandwidth and incurs data latency. This paper proposes a LRRLBP algorithm that locally repairs a path by predicting link state before disconnecting the path based on the AODV routing protocol for solving such problems. Intensive simulations with the results using NS-2 simulator are shown for verifying the proposed protocol.

  • Bluetooth has been reputed as a wireless networking technology supplying ad-hoc networks between digital devices. In particular, bluetooth scatternet is a most essential part for dynamic ad-hoc networks. But past researches on bluetooth scatternet has hardly treated dynamic scatternet environment. In this paper, we proposed a scatternet reformation algorithm for the case that some nodes escape from the scatternet. The proposed algorithm is a general algorithm which can be applied to many types of bluetooth scatternet regardless of the topology. The proposed algorithm has short reformation time delay because the process has only page process (not including inquiry process ). The algorithm is operated based on Recovery Node Vector which is composed of Recovery Master and Recovery Slave. In this paper, we performed the real hardware experiments for evaluating the performance of the proposed algorithm. In that experiments, we measured the reformation time and reformation probability. In comparison with the case including inquiry process, the proposed algorithm had the improvement in reformation time delay and we obtained high success rate over 97%.
