  • The importance of. identifying the causes of electrical faults cannot be overstated because of the accidents caused by over-current that take place at the home, the office and electrical facilities due to misuse, poor products and system faults. It is necessary to gather objective, scientific data pertaining to electrical fault investigation in a product liability(PL) environment. To date, no database(DB) has been built concerning the accurate cause analysis of faultyfacilities. In this paper, accident hazard and arc scattering when over-current flows in copper wire was investigated. It was found that when over-current flows in a copper wire, the copper wire became heated and bent and beads were scattered around the wire with a flash. It was determinedthat the fusing current and time was related to the current rise per second. For example, when the current rise per second was largethe fusing current was higher than when the current rise per second was small, and the beads dispersed along a wide area. Fusing time, however, was shorter. The possibility of electrical fault became highest when the fusing current was higher. As the current rise per second is short, the dendrite structure is distributed in the surface of the copper wire. These experimental results can be utilized for a fault process DB system in the investigation and the prevention of electrical faults.

  • In this study, it is first intended to simulate the vertical profile of atmospheric flow in a short wind tunnel. In order to accomplish it, proper devices are designed properly to reduce freestream flow momentum and it is confirmed from the measured velocity profile using hot-wire anemometer that momentum flux of the tunnel free stream can be reduced and desired atmospheric boundary can be created. Second, experiments are performed to identify influences of a surrounding structure measuring correct wind velocity by an anemometer, which are located nearby due to area limitation in actual airport and correction factors are proposed from experimental results. One of findings is that in order to limit the velocity attenuation due to a nearby structure under 10%, wind velocity measuring equipment should be installed at least 6 times of the structure height away from the structure of concern.

  • This paper presents a study on defects in pearlite lamella structure of high carbon steel by means of finite-element method(FEM) simulation. High-carbon pearlite steel wire is characterized by its nano-sized microstructure feature of alternation ferrite and cementite. The likely fatigue crack is located on interface of the lamella structure where the maximum amplitude of the longitudinal shear stress and transverse shear stress was calculated during cyclic loading. The FEM is proposed for maximum shear stress from loading of lamella structure, and a method is predicted to analyze the likely fatigue crack generation. It is possible to obtain the important basic data which can be guaranteed in the ductility of high carbon steel wire by using FEM simulation.

  • Metal bipolar plate applied to Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell is getting most attractive due to their good feasibility of mass production and low cost. But it is one of the immediate causes of performance decline because it is difficult to reduce channel pitch of metal bipolar plate. In this study, mesh was inserted in between bipolar plate and GDL to obtain uniform contact pressure without reducing channel pitch. The section measuring and performance test were carried out to confirm the mesh structure distributes contact pressure equally in reacting area. The performance of 3 type mesh structures developed in this study were higher than the normal cell at all over the current range. Especially, it showed that the mesh cell performance was increased and pressure drop was decreased with diminishing mesh gap size. The Mesh structure was more sensitive to humidification and contact pressure change than the normal cell.

  • In this study, Microstructure and hardness of 1st layer with crystallographic orientation were investigated about solidification structure in multipass weld using high Mn-Ni flux cored wire. Microstructure of solidification consisted of austenite matrix and a little ${\varepsilon}-phase$ in grain boundaries. Orientation of grains was usually (001), (101), (111). According to crystallographic orientation, morphology of primary dendrite was different. The depletion of Fe and the segregation of Mn, C, Ni, Si, Cu, Cr, O were found along the grain boundaries. The area of segregation was wide with an order of (001), (101), (111) grains. And hardness of grains with crystallographic orientation increased with an order of (001), (101), (111) grains because of the segregation along dendrite boundary.

  • Underground structures are built into concrete like a architecture and public works. Concrete has watertightness as such, But buildings are leaking from the cracks. Recently, construction method do a lot of close construction in the downtown area. So architects are using the method for the outer layer of a two-layer wall to save spaces. They have been using Top-down method and waterproof agent method and others to outer layer of a two-layer wall method. But, There are many leakage in underground structure from lack on requirements performance of materials. Therefore, I hope to test the outside Waterproof Method of Ground using Wire-mesh and Non-hardening Viscosity Waterproof. In addition to, I wish to apply as outside waterproof method for the section for the outer layer of a two-layer wall in underground structure.

  • The physical properties of seven sizes of control groups and experimental group in stainless steel orthodontic wires were studied in tension, hardness, bending, torsion and observation of microstructure. The wires (0.40-0.90mm dia.) of round type were tested in the as-received condition. The wires of control groups were TRU-CHROME and REMANIUM, and experimental group was SK wire which was developed by ourselves and made in Korea. The results were as follows; 1. The chemical compositions of control groups and experimental group were austenite stainless steel wires of SOS 304. 2. Higher values of tensile and yield strength in tension were control group I, experimental group, control group II. Maximum tensile and yield strength of experimental group were $203.63{\pm}1.41kg/mm^2$ in 0.70mm diameter and $148.96{\pm}4.88kg/mm^2$ in 0.60mm diameter, and maximum elongation was $5.20{\pm}0.57%$ in 0.45mm diameter. 3. Hardness values of experimental group were similar to control groups. Maximum hardness values were $596.2{\pm}13.66Hv$ in 0.45mm diameter wire of control group I, $590.5{\pm}20.08Hv$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of control group II, and $563.6{\pm}5.35Hv$ in 0.70mm diameter wire of experimental group. 4. Torsion properties of experimental group were similar to control group I and more than control group II. Maximum torsion cycles were $31.8{\pm}2.48$ in 0.45mm diameter of control group I, $17.4{\pm}4.84$ in 0.60mm diameter of control group II, and $24.6{\pm}3.04$ in 0.45mm diameter of experimental group. 5. Maximum bending cycles of experimental group were smaller than control groups. Maximum bending cycles were $9.00{\pm}0.00$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of control group I, $10.0{\pm}0.82$ in 0.40mm diameter wire of control group II, and $8.0{\pm}1.26$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of experimental group. 6. Microstructures of experimental and control groups co-existed with martensited austenite structure and elongated austenite structure. 7. The direction of wire fracture was propagated parallel to torsion direction typically and there was no probability showing wire fracture at inclusions and surface scratches. 8. The type of wire fracture was brittle fracture at initiation site and ductile fracture at core.

  • This paper presents deposition and characterizations of microcrystalline silicon$({\mu}c-Si:H)$ films prepared by hot wire chemical vapor deposition at substrate temperature below $300^{\circ}C$. The $SiH_{4}$ concentration$[F(SiH_{4})/F(SiH_{4})+F(H_{2})]$ is critical parameter for the formation of Si films with microcrystalline phase. At 6% of silane concentration, deposited intrinsic ${\mu}c-Si:H$ films shows sufficiently low dark conductivity and high photo sensitivity for solar cell applications. P-type ${\mu}c-Si:H$ films deposited by Hot-Wire CVD also shows good electrical properties by varying the rate of $B_{2}H_{6}$ to $SiH_{4}$ gas. The solar cells with structure of Al/nip ${\mu}c-Si:H$/TCO/glass was fabricated with single chamber Hot-Wire CVD. About 3% solar efficiency was obtained and applicability of HWCVD for thin film solar cells was proven in this research.
