  • Thermal effects and characteristics of heat release for electrical wire installed in pascon and concrete trough have been theoretically approached and studied in consideration of the structure of products. The points of difference between two troughs have been evaluated by theoretical approach and estimated by computer simulation in similar condition of institution environment. As a result, the average of the intrinsic thermal conductivity of concrete trough is superiority to pascon trough considering only for characteristic of materials. But when considering for institution environment (thickness, area and trough structure etc) as the results of the calculation and computer simulation using FLUENT, the degree of heat release for pascon trough is of advantage to concrete trough.

  • A lot of efforts have been focused on the optimization of PIT parameters for Bi-2223/Ag wire. Bi-2223 superconducting wires with 55 filaments were fabricated by stacking, drawing process. Before rolling process, round wires were pre -annealed at 760 - 820 $^{\circ}C$ and low oxygen partial pressure. We confirmed that pre-annealing step was to transform Bi-2212 orthorhombic structure from Bi-2212 tetragonal structure and to reduce the formation of second phases. However Bi-2223 phases also were formed at higher than 76$0^{\circ}C$ of pre-annealing temperature. The engineering critical current densities (Je) of Bi-22231Ag tapes were sintered at low oxygen partial pressure were higher than t hat of the wires sintered at air. We could achieve 6500 A/${cm}^2$ of Je for the tape that was initially kept at slightly higher temperature than that of normal heat treatment.

  • 0The fields of turbomachinery and electrical generators provide many examples of flow through rotating internal passages. At the practicing Reynolds number, most of the flow motion is three dimensional and highly turbulent. The proper understanding for the characteristics of these turbulent flow is necessary for the design of thermo-fluid machinery of a good efficiency. The flow characteristics in the rotating duct with curvature are very complex in practice due to the curvature and rotational effect of the duct. The understanding of the effect of the curvature on the structure and rotational effect of the duct. The understanding of the effect of the curvature on the structure of turbulence in the curved passage and the characteristics of the flow in a rotating radial straight channel have been well studied separately by many workers. But the combined effects of curvature and rotation on the flow have not been well understood inspite of the importance of the phenomena in the practical design process. In this study, the characteristics of a developing turbulent flow in a square sectioned 90.deg. bend rotating at a constant angular velocity are measured by using hot-wire anemometer to seize the rotational effects on the flow characteristics. As the results of this study, centrifugal forces associated with the curvature of the bend and Coriolis forces and centripetal forces associated with the rotational affect directly both the mean motion and the turbulent fluctuations.

  • In construction structure management, the effects of investigation by the professional manager is dependent on the cost, the inspection periods and methods. Therefore, effective and automated maintenance system for the target structure is required. Although some bridge monitoring systems are operating using wire based networks, the performance is not good enough to show sufficient ability as integrated bridge management system. In this paper, we design and implement an integrated bridge management system based on sensor networks. Two expert modules for bridge management and the integrated system management are provided. Moreover, web-based monitoring system is also designed for users at anywhere. The results show that the system is effective and readily available.

  • This paper presents a novel reset scheme for mm-scale sensing systems with stringent volume and area constraints. In such systems, multi-layer structure is required to maximize the silicon area per volume and minimize the system size. The multi-layer structure requires wirebonding connections for power delivery and communication among layers, but the area overhead for wirebonding pads can be significant. The proposed reset scheme exploits already existing power wires and thus does not require additional wires for system-wide reset operation. To implement the proposed reset scheme, a power management unit is designed to impose reset condition, and a reset detector is designed to interpret the reset condition indicated by the power wires. The reset detector uses a coupling capacitor for the initial power-up and a feedback path to hold the developed supply voltage. The prototype reset detector is fabricated in a $180-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and the measurement results with the prototype mm-scale system confirmed robust reset operation over a wide range of temperatures and voltages.

  • Theorectical and experimental studies of On-Glass antenna in the 1.9GHz bandare performed. In this paper, the structure of designed On-Glass antenna consists of a 5/8-wavelength upper segment and quarter-wavelength lower segment separated by phasing coil. On-Glass antenna may be resonated by the use of suitably spaced phasing coil in series with the antenna wire. This tuning structure leads to an improvement in antenna efficiency. And then, this can be very useful for installation where limited space like automobil is available. The analytical method is based on collocation method with pulse function. The results obtained from numerical method are presented and compared with an experimental evaluation. From this, the VSWR, gain, radiation pattern, and bandwidth of the On-Glass antenna are analyzed.

  • In this Paper, we suggest the precision stage using a novel non-contact planar actuator that utilizes an interaction between an array type of air-core solenoids and permanent magnets. The former with axes arranged in the mutually orthogonal direction is fixed on the stator and the latter with the same polar direction is attached below the stage. The promising magnetic structure has little uncertainty such as hysteresis loss caused by ferromagnetic material, then it is simple to quantify the magnetic phenomenon. And all the magnetic forces are transmitted through narrow air-gap between the coil and the permanent magnet, therefore the structure can be highly compacted. Furthermore, the stage or plate can be perfectly isolated from the stator without any wire connection, leading to diminish the generating possibility of wear particles due to mechanical contact. Then. it is estimated that the proposed operating principle is very suitable for work requiring high accuracy and cleanness. or general-purpose nano stage. The main issues rebated to the plate driving are discussed here.

  • Tension mask is a part of CRT type devices, which is installed right behind glass-made front panel. Numerous slits on the thin metal sheet enable the electron beams emitted from posterior gun to be focused, resulting in enhanced definition. Flattened and enlarged displays necessitate the imposition of pretension on the masks, in order to improve the robustness of display quality against vibration or impact. High temperature assembly process subsequent to pretensioning, however, degenerates creep resistance of mask material, and common mask may become susceptible to undesirable elongation due to creep. Once tensile stress becomes high enough to induce creep deformation, pretension is substantially loosened. In this study, tension mask assembly is modeled as a combined structure of beams and wire array, and a numerical simulation is attempted for pretensioning followed by high temperature process. Based on a model study, creep occurrence is found to be probable and its adverse influence is quantified. As fur maintaining high tensile force, simply increasing pretension does not seem to be helpful. Instead, the structure of frame needs to be modified somehow, or material for mask needs to be selected properly.

  • This paper highlights results of some experimental work that deals with strengthening of bolted shear joints in thin-walled ferrocement structure where steel wires, bent into U-shape are considered as simple inserts around the bolt hole. The parameters investigated include the number of layers of wire mesh, edge distance of bolt hole, size and location of the inserts. Test results have shown that for small edge distance, failure occurred either in cleavage or shearing mode, and the strength of the joint increased with an increase in the edge distance. This continued up to an upper limit set by either tension or bearing failure. The experimental study further revealed that for a given edge distance the strength of a joint can significantly be enhanced by using U-inserts. The equations developed for predicting joint strength in ferrocement composites can also be modified to include the effects of the inserts with a good level of accuracy.

  • Supersonic jet fighter aircraft have several different weapon loading configuration to support air-to-air combat and air-to-ground delivery of weapon modes. Especially, asymmetric loading configurations could result in decreased handling qualities for the pilot maneuvering of the aircraft. The design of the T-50 lateral-directional roll axis control laws change from beta-betadot feedback structure to simple roll rate feedback structure and gains such as F-16 in order to improve roll-off phenomena during pitch maneuver in asymmetric loading configuration. Consequently, it is found that the improved control law decreases the roll-off phenomenon in lateral axes during pitch maneuver, but initial roll response is very fast and wing pitching moment is increased. In this paper, we propose the lateral control law blending between beta-betadot and simple roll rate feedback system in order to decreases the roll-off phenomenon in lateral axes during pitch maneuver without degrading of roll performance.
