Evaluation of Circle Machining Surface Roughness on the Process Conditions using Neural Network (신경회로망을 이용한 가공조건에 따른 원형가공 표면거칠리 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to present the method to choose the optimization machining condition for the wire electric machine. This was completed by examining the ever-changing quality of the material and by improving the function of the wire electric discharge machine. Precision metal mold products and the unmanned wire electric discharge machining system were used and then applied in industrial fields. This experiment uses the wire electric discharge machine with brass wire electrode of 0.25mm. To measure the precision of the machining surface, average values are obtained from 3 samples of measures of center-line average roughness by using a third dimension gauge and a stylus surface roughness gauge. In this experiment, we changed no-node voltage to 7 and 9, pulse-on-time to $6{\mu}s,\;8{\mu}s$ and $10{\mu}s$, pulse-off-time to $8{\mu}s,\;10{\mu}s$ and $13{\mu}s$, and experimented on wire tension at room temperature by 1000gf, 1200gf, and 1400gf, respectively.

  • Some studies have shown that unstable factors are inherent in WEDM process, causing the instability of the discharging pulse to reach about 40∼60% in normal machining. Transient stability is an important subject in WEDM process since there is a close relationship between stability and machining performance, such as the characteristics of a machined surface, machining speed and problem of instability like wire rupture phenomenon. Among the many machining parameters affecting WEDM machining state, three specific parameters (Vr, Ip, off time ) are major controllable variables that can be applied in transient stability control. And, this research investigates the implementation and analysis of real-time micro control of the discharging stability of WEDM (Wire Electric Discharge Machining) process.

  • From the experimental study of wire-cut Electric Discharge Machining for alloyed steel and tungsten carbide, the characteristics such as hand drum form has been observed and evaluated for various conditions. Hand drum form can be improved when gap voltage and spark cycle become smaller, their thickness become thinner, wire tension become larger and number of cutting is done so many times. When wire-cut 60mm thickness tungsten carbide in normal condition, Hand drum form becomes larger due to the low conductivity inducing cobalt composite rising by electrolysis.

  • Micro electrical discharge machining (EDM) as a non-contact machining process is very effective for micromachining with a thin electrode because of its low machining reaction force. The micro-electrode machining device has the advantage of maintaining high precision through the whole processes and uses a feeding wire in the thin electrode tool manufacturing process. This study describes the design and evaluation of a micro-electrode machining device using optical photo-interrupter. The electrode was fabricated by reverse electrical discharge machining. The performance of designed system was evaluated to measure tension force according to feed speed of wire. This system for micro electrode fabrication proves the feasibility in the micro-EDM process of the micro holes and parts for industrial applications.

  • This paper describes the wire EDM (Electric Discharge Machining) CAM system considering a variable taper wire-cut and an unmanned wire EDM during the night. Wire EDM is applicable to all materials that are fairly good electrical conductors, including metals, alloys and most carbide. Thus it provides a relatively simple method for making holes of any desired cross section in materials that are too hard or brittle to be machined by most other methods. In this paper we classify variable taper wire-cut machining patterns and variable taper wire-cut geometries. Also we determine unmanned wire EDM patterns fur the productivity of wire EDM industry. Developed system consists of two modules: 1) Variable taper wire EDM module guarantees the length ratio machining function, the parametric ratio machining function and the marking function. 2) Unmanned wire EDM module guarantees the automatic wire EDM during the night. The proposed system has been tested in the fields and found to be a useful system.

  • The surface roughness depending on the machining method is very important because is produce a finished product through riveting, sealing, bonding, and special paint in order to curb the turbulence and air resistance which occur between the sheets. Aluminum alloy 2024 which is widely used for interior and exterior material of aircraft are tested. Jin-young JW-60C wire cutting machine was used in this experiment. In this paper, the experimental investigation has been performed to find out the influence of the surface roughness and surface shape characteristics on the wire-cut EDM of discharge energy in aluminium alloy 2024. The selected experimental parameters are peak current, no-load voltage, off time and feed rate. The experimental results give the guideline for selecting reasonable machining parameters. The high discharge energy on the idle time, almost no change in surface roughness can be seen.

  • In this study, the characteristics of Wire Electrical Discharge Machining(WEDM) of the high-hardened mold steel were investigated. WEDM experiments have been carried out based on parameter of wire diameter, pulse on time, pulse off time, feed rate and cycle etc. From the results, the optimized WEDM cycle of RIGOR steel has been revealed as $5{\sim}7$ times. Also, geometrical accuracy of the Core Pin is dependent on WEDM wire radius machining condition and wire chattering.

  • Wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of STD-11 in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension. The deflection is the smallest at the speed of wire of 10.6m/min and the water specific resistivity of 5k$\Omega$.cm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time. But if the water pressure is high, it is found not to be changed after the vibration of 4sec. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, is observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be similar in spite of the change of EDM energy level. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire. The roundness of middle is found to be worse than that of upper and it is increased as the thickness of material is increased.

  • The characteristics of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) are governed by many factors such as the power supply type, operating condition and electrode material. This work deals with the effect of wire electrode materials on the machining characteristics such as, metal removal rate, surface characteristics and surface roughness during WEDM A wire's thermal physical properties are melting point, electrical conductivity and vapor pressure. One of the desired qualities of wire is a low melting point and high vapor pressure to help expel the contaminants from the gap. They are determined by the mix of alloying elements (in the case of plain brass and coated wire) or the base core material(i.e. molybdenum). Experiments have been conducted regarding the choice of suitable wire electrode materials and influence of the properties of these materials on the machinability and surface characteristics in WEDM, the experimental results are presented and discussed from their metallurgical aspect. And the coating effect of various alloying elements(Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, Cr, Mn, etc.) to the Cu or 65-35 brass core on them was reviewed also. The removal rate of some coated wires are higher than that of 65-35 brass electrode wire because the wire is difficult to break due to the wire cooling effect of Zn evaporation latent heat and the Zn oxide on the surface is effective in preventing short circuit. The removal rate increases with increasing Zn content from 35, 40 and Zn coated wire

  • In this paper, Wire electric discharge grinding(WEDG) method for manufacturing the micro shaft was introduced and the machining characteristics was investigated. from the experimental results, it was concluded that high surface integrity could be obtained by use of dielectric fluid spraying method and small capacitive condenser.
