  • As an alternative for conventional structures for tall buildings, a hybrid lateral load resisting structure has been designed, enabling the assembly of tall buildings directly from a truck. It consists of steel frames with discretely connected precast concrete infill panels provided with window openings. Besides the stiffening and strengthening effect of the infill panels on the frame structure, economical benefits may be derived from saving costs on materials and labour, and from reducing construction time. In order to develop design rules for this type of structure, the hybrid infilled frame has recently been subjected to experimental and numerical analyses. Ten full-scale tests were performed on one-storey, one-bay, 3 by 3 m infilled frame structures, having different window opening geometries. Subsequently, the response of the full-scale experiments was simulated with the finite element program DIANA. The finite element simulations were performed taking into account non-linear material characteristics and geometrical non-linearity. The experiments show that discretely connected precast concrete panels provided with a window opening, can significantly improve the performance of steel frames. A comparison between the full-scale experiments and simulations shows that the finite element models enable simulating the elastic and plastic behaviour of the hybrid infilled frame.

  • This study compared the fire safety standards for windows of Korea, the U.S. and Japan to prevent fire expansion through exterior wall openings, and conducted experiments using PVC and aluminum window frames, which are widely used in Korea. The experiment is KS F 2845 which combines frames of the same thickness and area with single-window form and 1 hour fire resistance glass with 8T thickness. Experiments showed that the PVC window was about 9 minutes and the aluminum window was about 26 minutes. However, in Korea, there are no test standards for windows installed at the opening of the exterior wall. In addition, fire safety standards for windows shall be established along with the designation of fire prevention zones.

  • The fundamental purpose of this study is whether Show Window Display actually affect on purchase and if it does, how much Show Window Display have influence on the buyer's satisfaction. Show windows are most important at clothing stores. The show open types of domestic clothing stores are usually open-type and semi open-type. Show Window Display types of low and middle prices stores are generally opened, horizontal and storied type and the shape, height, opening type and use of ground floor are different by regional distinct features. Generally Show Window Display are consisted by lights, mannequins and directed props. In buying patterns, an impulse buying has more stronger effect than a scheduled buying, a substituted buying and non-buying. An impulse buying are strongly affected by Design and others are prices. The reason why Show Window Display affecting on purchase is the satisfaction of Design and the strong stimulus to purchase(impulse buying), and then Show window Display used by all components strongly has an effect on it. Factors of purchase desires were Design, price and quality in order and factors of purchase motivations were the motivation of clothing design and the motivation of impulse buying. Thus the effects of Show Window Display and factors of purchase motivations are same. As a result of this study, differentiated Show Window Display methods of clothing stores affect the value of goods, the stimulus of purchase and fostering sales effectiveness. Therefore the instruction of Show Window Display methods are indicated by this study.

  • This study is to clarify the form of window and door of medieval times house which are no longer in existence, by comparative analysis between literature materials and architectural remains of united Silla and Goryo period. Particularly the window and door form change process of was analyzed, in connection with the change of term which are recorded in literature material. The form and the composition of window and door are the elements which determine the elevation design of architecture and concerned with interior environment. Therefore this study is significant in the sense that it could be used as base data for the study on the reconstruction and interior space of medieval times house. There were ho (戶) and moon (門) as door, and chang (窓) for lighting and ventilation as window. Among these, the window can be divided into fixed and openable. There were two kind of fixed window. One is called chang (窓), and it was covered by silk or paper for lighting. The other is called ham (檻), it was the form of vertical bar window and lighting and ventilation was available. And there were two kind of openable window. One is called ho (戶), which had wooden plate window leaves. And the other is called changho (窓戶), lighting was available in the condition of closing.

  • Optimal transducer positions are important as much as the control algorithms and hardware performance in the active noise control system. This study is similar to the past researches on the optimal transducer locations but with a far field noise source having a plane wave characteristic and the noise coming through an opening such as a window in an enclosure. Optimization techniques are used to find sets of optimal loudspeaker positions from a larger possible loudspeaker positions. Loudspeakers are placed on the surface of opening at the wall and inside of the enclosure. Using the measured acoustic transfer impedances and numerical simulations with the optimization technique, optimal positions are identified and compared. When a small number of loudspeakers are used. loudspeaker positions on the opening near the center seems to be the best place, but when a larger number of loudspeakers are used it was difficult to find simple patterns in the optimal positions. With the optimally positioned loudspeakers, optimal microphone positions are also studied.

  • This study focus on shaft box facade, special form of box window construction. It consists of a system of box window with continuous vertical shafts that extend over a number of stories to create a stack effect. The subject building was decided by analyzing various types of exiting apartments. Shaft box type balcony was devised by setting up shaft space at a part of balcony. Air flow and indoor air temperature were simulated, performance of shaft box type balcony was compared with existing types using VE computer simulation program. Research consequence can be summarized as follow: 1) In the case of existing types, the change of window opening rate has only a little effect on the improvement of indoor temperature. But, air flow rate increased two times in the case that changed opening rate 20% to 40% 2) In the case of existing types, the growth of air flow rate has little effect on the improvement of indoor temperature. But, shaft box type represented the remarkable effect on the improvement of indoor temperature as well as the growth of air flow rate.

  • This study is a preliminary research to develop design principles for environmentally friendly housing. The purposes of study are to investigate the literatures related passive design for summer and theory of ventilation, to analyze the indoor airflow patterns in traditional Korean house during summer, and to propose the design factors for effective passive cooling system. The analysis for airflow patterns was focused on the ‘An bang’and the ‘Dae Chung’in the ‘An Chae’of a traditional house located in Seoul. Field measurements of air temperature and air velocity were carried out at 30 different measuring points with 8 different window-opening conditions. The measurements were taken on the hottest summer days in August 2000. It is concluded that from an environmentally friendly standpoint design factors to control indoor thermal environment by a passive cooling system during the summer are as follows; ceiling structure has thermal performance like a time-lag effect, optimum height and length of eaves which can prevent sunlight and divert airflow toward the sitting level, building arrangement acceptable the prevailing wind, strategic window arrangement which makes cross ventilation possible (especially north-south) at the sitting level, window opening condition which is possible to intersect two cross-ventilation stream at the main living areas, northward windows remaining in shade to create the air pressure difference, and planning building shape like a bracket that has optimum width and depth.
