  • We present a area-based method for stereo matching using varying weights. A central problem in a area-based stereo matching is different result from selecting a window size. Most of the previous window-based methods iteratively update windows. However, the iterative methods very sensitive the initial disparity estimation and are computationally expensive. To resolve this problem, we proposed a new function to assign weights to pixels using features. To begin with, we extract features in a given stereo images based on edge. We adjust the weights of the pixels in a given window based on correlation of the stereo images. Then, we match pixels in a given window between the reference and target images of a stereo pair. The proposed method is compared to existing matching strategies using both synthetic and real images. The experimental results show the improved accuracy of the proposed method.

  • K1A1 tank commander's primary thermal sight is a device that enables tank commanders to detect, identify, aim and track the target by observing targets in all directions during day, night and in situations of smokescreen and fog through $360^{\circ}$ rotation independent from the gunner's primary thermal sight and stabilizing the line of sight even under the vibrations occurring when the tank is standstill and moving. The main function of this device is to detect and process visible and thermal images and deliver the final images to the tank commander. One of the core parts to that end is the observation window (daytime/thermal image window). This core part is mounted at the entrance of the optical path for observing the target and plays the role of making visible light during the daytime and infrared light during the night pass through the target and transmitting the resultant images to the internal optical system of the tank commander's primary thermal sight. Such core parts have been selected as depot maintenance items so that they are replaced by new parts instead of being recycled when they are subjected to maintenance in most cases. That is, the military budget is wasted because such parts are replaced by new parts despite that they can be recycled for maintenance. Therefore, this study proposed a mounting tool for polishing and coating observation windows (daytime and thermal image window) using planar polishing equipment and DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating equipment. In addition, this study presented an amendment (proposal) of the Depot Maintenance Work Request (DMWR) already published to verify the performance of recycled products including the establishment of inspection standards for recycling processes.

  • An improved numerical scattering model with the 2-dimensional moment method including roof-top basis and a modified window-function to reduce edge-effect is presented in this study. The roof-top basis function is used to depict randomly positioned surface currents and increase an efficiency of the moment method. To reduce the edge-effect which occurs at the end of numerically generated surfaces, an enhanced window-function which is weighted by incident angle variable is proposed. To validate an proposed 2-dimensional scattering model and numerical analysis techniques for randomly rough surfaces, computational results are compared and analyzed to SPM(Small Perturbation Model) as well.

  • Dial-a-ride is the most widely available transit service for disabled persons or seniors in the United States and Europe. This paper studies a static dial-a-ride problem considering multiple depots, heterogeneous vehicles, and soft time windows. In this paper, we apply a heuristic based on clustering first-routing second(HCR) to a real-world large dial-a-ride problem from Maryland Transit Administration(MTA). MTA's real operation is compared with the results of developed heuristic for 24 cases. The objective function of the proposed model is to minimize the total cost composed of the service provider's cost and the customers' inconvenience cost. For the comparison, the objective function values of HCR do not include waiting cost, delay cost, and excess ride cost. The objective function values from HCR are better than those from MTA's operation for all cases. This result shows that our heuristic method can make the real operation better and more efficient.

  • IEEE 802.11 MAC(Media Access Control) defines DCF(Distributed Coordination Function) for data transmission control. BEB(Binary Exponential Backoff) algorithm of DCF has a problem that if the number of stations connected are over a certain threshold, it degrades network performance because of packet collisions caused from the minimum contention window size. To cope with this problem, we proposed a novel algorithm, named as VBS(Variable Backoff Stage) algorithm, which adjusts the rate of backoff stage increment depending on the number of stations associated with an AP(Access Point). Analytic model of proposed algorithm was derived and simulations on the BEB and the VBS algorithms have been conducted on the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) method. Simulation results showed that when the rate of backoff state increment was 5 and 10, the number of retransmission were reduced to 1/5 and 1/10 comparing to that of BEB, respectively. Our algorithm showed improvement of 19% and 18% in network utilization, respectively. Packet delay was reduced into 1/12.

  • ECG(electrocardiogram) is used to measure the rate and regularity of heartbeats, as well as the size and position of the chambers, the presence of any damage to the heart, and the cause of all heart diseases can be found. Because the ECG signal obtained using the ECG-KIT includes noise in the ECG signal, noise must be removed from the ECG signal to apply to the deep learning. In this paper, Noise included in the ECG signal was removed by using a lowpass filter of the Digital FIR Hamming window function. When the performance evaluation of the three activation functions, sigmoid(), ReLU(), and tanh() functions, which was confirmed that the activation function with the smallest error was the tanh() function, the elapsed time was longer when the batch size was small than large. Also, it was confirmed that result of the performance evaluation for the GRU model was superior to that of the LSTM model.

  • This paper is on the implementation of a system for automatically monitoring window farm hydroponics based on Arduino (utilizing Arduino's open source code) emerging as the icon of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. A window farm, which means window-type hydroponics, is offered as an alternative to fulfill the desires of people who want to grow plants aside from the busy daily life in the city. The system proposed in this paper was developed to automatically monitor a window farm hydroponics cultivation environment using the Arduino UNO board, a four-charmel motor shield, temperature and humidity sensors, illumination sensors, and a real-time clock module. Modules for hydroponics have been developed in various forms, but power consumption is high because most of them use general power and motors. Since it is not a system that is monitored automatically, there is a disadvantage in that an administrator always has to manage its operational state. The system is equipped with a water supply that is most suitable for a plant growth environment by utilizing temperature, humidity, and light sensors, which function as Internet of Things sensors. In addition, the real-time clock module can be used to provide a more appropriate water supply. The system was implemented with sketch code in a Linux environment using Raspberry Pi 3 and Arduino UNO.

  • This paper is a study of Le Corbusier's trace regulateur of the 1920s, particularly its role in the design of the Villas La Roche-Jeanneret and Stein-de Monzie. It proceeds on the basis of the following three themes: first, the relation between the regulating line and the dom-ino frame; second, its status as a proportional device based not on a module system but one that defines relations; third, its function as an essential practical device in the design process. In the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, the embedded horizontal planes of the dom-ino frame were constant, but the vortical lines of the columns were altered according to the changes in plan. Initially, a left-hand bay window formed a symmetry with the right-hand bay window, the only constant in the design process. With subsequent changes, mullion sections of the horizontal window and roof elements came to provide the reference points for the regulating line. Eventually, a regulating line different from the one that controlled the bay window and the elongated volume came to control the entrance hall of Villa La Roche, resulting in three different kinds of regulating lines in the final version. In contrast to the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, a singular and consistent regulation line was anticipated in the earliest design stages of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. The repetition of its A:B grid and the standard $2.5m{\times}1.0m$ sliding window determined the proportions of both its plan and elevation, and thus the regulating line became 'automatic,' losing its viability as a practical tool. Though the regulating titles of the La Roche-Jeanneret look as if they were an afterthought, drawn after the design was complete, they were most active, requiring tenacity and discipline in their application. On the other hand, the seemingly 'redundant' regulating line of the Villa Stein-de Monzie gains its raison d'etre from the dom-ino frame. Its cantilevers and uninterrupted horizontal window could be used in decisive fashion because of the guarantee that the correct proportion would always be maintained. Thus we discover that Le Corbusier's discipline of the 1920s had a certain spectrum of flexibility. His 'parti' ranged from the extremely loose and malleable grid of the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret to the fixed grid of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. In different ways, these projects retain the tension between the dom-ino frame and the regulating line. For Le Corbusier, as much as the grid was an object with fixed attributes, it was also an active medium manipulated by the will of the architect.

  • One of the critical issues in a sensor network concerns the detection of changes in data streams. Recently presented change detection schemes primarily use a sliding window model to detect changes. In such a model, a distance function is used to compare two sliding windows. Therefore, the performance of the change detection scheme is greatly influenced by the distance function. With regard to sensor nodes, however, energy consumption constitutes a critical design concern because the change detection scheme is implemented in a sensor node, which is a small battery-powered device. In this paper, we present a comparative study of various distance functions in terms of execution time, energy consumption, and detecting accuracy through simulation of speech signal data. The simulation result demonstrates that the Euclidean distance function has the highest performance while consuming a low amount of power. We believe our work is the first attempt to undertake a comparative study of distance functions in terms of execution time, energy consumption, and accuracy detection.

  • For the degradation of severe noise and ill-conditioned blur the optimization function has the solution spaces which have many local optima around global solution. General restoration methods such as inverse filtering or gradient methods are mainly dependent on the properties of degradation model and tend to be isolated into a local optima because their convergences are determined in the convex space. Hence we introduce genetic algorithm as a searching method which will search solutions beyond the convex spaces including local solutins. In this paper we introudce improved evaluation square error) and fitness value for gray scaled images. Finally we also proposed the local fine tunign of window size and visit number for delicate searching mechanism in the vicinity of th global solution. Through the experiental results we verified the effectiveness of the proposed genetic operators and evaluation function on noise reduction over the conventional ones, as well as the improved performance of local fine tuning.
