In this paper, the operational performance of SRM can be improved by using current hysteresis control method. This method maintains a generally flat current waveform. At the high speed, the current chopping capability is lost due to the development of the back-EMF. Therefore SRM operates in single pulse mode. By using zero-current switching and zero-voltage switching technique, the stress of power switches can be reduce in chopping mode. When the commutation from one phase winding to another phase winding, the current can be zero as fast as possible in this period because several times negative voltage of DC-source voltage produce in phase winding. This paper is compared to performance based on conventional C-dump converter topology and the proposed resonant C-dump converter topology Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.

The speed variation of SRM is fulfilled throughout a transition from chopping control to single pulse operation. (i,e., low speed to high speed operation). It is unsatisfied with performance at all operational regimes. This paper is compared to performance based on conventional C-dump converter topology and the proposed resonant C-dump converter topology. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.
A rare-earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) superconducting magnet was designed using no-insulation (NI) and multi-width (MW) winding techniques. The proposed magnet is comprised of 58 REBCO-wound single pancake coils with a bore size of 240 mm. When the magnet is operated at 20 K, the center magnetic flux density is designed to reach 3 T with an operational current of 169.55 A, 70 % of its critical current. The critical current was evaluated using experimental data of a short REBCO conductor sample. The designed magnet was then simulated using FEM software with uniform current density model. Magnetic field and mechanical properties of the magnet are evaluated using the simulated data. This magnet was designed as one of the base designs for the project "Tesla-Level Magnets with Large Bore Sizes for Industrial Applications" which was initiated in 2019, and will be wound using REBCO wires with the defect-irrelevant-winding (DIW) technique incorporated to reduce the overall manufacturing cost.
This study presents the experiment and simulation results on the magnetic field response and electrical stability behaviors of no-insulation (NI) and metal insulation with stainless steel tape (MI-SS) which wound in form of racetrack type coils. First of all, the structural design of the racetrack type bobbin was shown along with its parameters. Then, the current-voltage tests were carried out to measure the critical current of both test coils. Also, the sudden discharging and charging tests were performed in the steady state to estimate the decay field time and magnetic field response, respectively. Finally, the overcurrent tests were conducted in the transient state to investigate the electrical stability of these test coils. Based on the experimental results, the contact surface resistances were calculated and applied to the field coils (FCs) of 10-MW-class second generation high temperature superconducting generator (2G HTSG) used in wind offshore environment. The charging delay time and electrical stability for NI and MI-SS HTS FCs of 10-MW-class 2G HTSG are analyzed by the equivalent circuit model and the key parameters which were obtained from the electromagnetic finite element analysis results.

We had proposed a winding method so called "Wind-and-Flip", which enables a persistent current operation of an HTS pancake coil without any electrical joint. In order to improve the magnetic field drift characteristics, a prototype HTS coil with the technique was fabricated, and tested under various temperatures. Because the coil doesn't have any electric terminals for current leads, an HTS background magnet was used to induce the persistent current in the coil by field cooling process. A conduction cooling system with a GM cryocooler was prepared to keep the operating temperatures of the prototype coil much below the 77 K. We investigated the magnetic field drift characteristics under the various operating temperatures by measuring the center magnetic field with a cryogenic Hall sensor. The persistent current mode operation at 20 ~ 50K showed a strong possibility of the winding technique for the application such as MRI or NMR.

Superconducting magnets have paved the way for opening new horizons in designing an electromagnet of a high field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device. In the first phase of the superconducting MRI magnet era, low-temperature superconductor (LTS) has played a key role in constructing the main magnet of an MRI device. The highest magnetic resonance (MR) field of 11.7 T was indeed reached using LTS, which is generated by the well-known Iseult project. However, as the limit of current carrying capacity and mechanical robustness under a high field environment is revealed, it is widely believed that commercial LTS wires would be challenging to manufacture a high field (>10 T) MRI magnet. As a result, high-temperature superconductor together with the conducting cooling approach has been spotlighted as a promising alternative to the conventional LTS. In 2020, the Korean government launched a national project to develop an HTS magnet for a high field MRI magnet as an extent of this interest. We have performed a design study of a 7 T 320 mm winding bore HTS MRI magnet, which may be the ultimate goal of this project. Thus, in this paper, design study results are provided. Electromagnetic design and analysis were performed considering the requirements of central magnetic field and spatial field uniformity.
Composite cylinder is used by hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and natural gas vehicles because of high specific modulus, specific strength and fatigue resistance. composite cylinder has a seamless integrated liner and it is fully overwrapped with structural fibers of high strength carbon fibers in an epoxy matrix. In this study, filament winding pattern and autofrettage pressure design technique are presented considering structural weakness of knuckle and compressive residual stress. Presented methodology is verified by pressure cycling test of composite cylinders.

Pattern classification of single and multiple discharge sources was applied using a wavelet image signal method in which a feature extraction was applied using a hidden sub-image. A feature extracting method that used vertical and horizontal images using an MSD method was applied to an averaging process for the scale of pulses for the phase. A feature extracting process for the preprocessing of the input of a neural network was performed using an inverse transformation of the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal sub-images. A back propagation algorithm in a neural network was used to classify defective signals. An algorithm for wavelet image processing was developed. In addition, the defective signal was classified using the extracted value that was quantified for the input of a neural network.

The cental magnetic field of an HTS magnet consisting of pancake windings can be increased if the magnet is excited by multiple power sources. Multiple power sources enable all pancake windings to conduct their critical currents. The HTS magnet consisting of pancake windings was excited by separate power sources in this paper. Critical currents of each pancake winding were determined by using optimization technique. Fabrication of the BSCCO magnet consisting of 10 pancake windings is described and test results of the BSCCO magnet are given. Central magnetic field and perpendicular magnetic field of the magnet excited by multiple power sources were compared with those of the magnet excited by a single power source.
In recent years, various types of partial discharge (PD) methods such as capacitive, inductive, electromagnetic, and acoustic coupling techniques have been developed for diagnosing rotating machines. An electromagnetic (EM) probe, which is an inductively coupled type of sensor, is required for detecting corona and internal discharges during off-line tests. In this study, a new technique for enhancing the measurement sensitivities for corona and internal discharge based on an EM inductive position sensor is proposed. An EM probe that winds wires around horseshoe-shaped and cylindershaped ferrites as helices is designed and optimized for the implementation of off-line PD monitoring of the stator winding of a rotating machine. The measurement system based on this design is implemented, and it is verified from the results of the experiment performed in this study that the probe provides similar performance as existing commercial products.
