  • Fringe-field switching mode which has a horizontal and vertical electric field exhibits high transmittance and wide viewing angle characteristics. In the FFS mode, a passivation layer between common and pixel electrodes exists, which functions as preventing current leakage of fringe-field. In this paper, we have studied LC behavior, transmittance and operating voltage characteristics with applied voltage as a function of the passivation layer thickness and defined optimal value of the layer to be about $0.5{\mu}m$.

  • This paper describes the practical implementation of switched reluctance motor drive for a wide range of operation speeds. The angle controller is designed by one-chip microprocessor 8051 for various real time applications. Algorithm to control the speed of SRM and to maintain the speed under the changed load is proposed.

  • In this paper, the configuration of a reflectIve bistable tWIsted nematic (BTN) liquid crystal cell is optmnzed for high contrast and high brightness operation. We searched for the optimum opncal parameters of a reflective BTN cell by calculating its optical performances at 3 wavelengths; red, green, and blue. By studying the effect of each optical parameter on the optical performances, we found that the angle of !he polmlzer IS more important than any other opnea! parmlleters iu the deSIgn of a reflective BTN cell. We fablicated a reflective BTN cell with a wide-band retardation Him, whose measmed contrast ratio is 10.6: 1. .6: 1.

  • 가공공정중 변형을 수반하게 되는 고분자제품은 대부분 고분자사슬의 배향을 갖게 된다. 이렇나 사슬배향은 제품의 기계적, 광학적, 그리고 전기적 특성에 매우 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져있다. 지금까지 고분자사슬의 배향상태를 나타내기 위한 여러방법은 모두 배향의 중심축을이 알려져 있다는 가정하에 전개되었다, 그러나 복잡한 배향모드를 갖 는 고분자가공의 경우에 배향중심측이 실험축과 일치하지 않는 경우가 많다 따라서 본연구 에서는 일반적인 고분자의배향상태를 나타내는 방법에 대해 알아보고 실제 고분자 가공공정 에 적용을 위해 실험적으로 배향의 대칭축을 찾을 수 있는 접근방법을 제시하고자 하였다. 그 결과 결정성 고분자의 배향상태를 광각 x-선 회절 data를 이용한2차배향 tensor를 통해 배향 타원체를 구성할수있었다. 이를PETdustls 필름과 HDPE사출성형물에 적용해 본 결과 이들의 2차 배향 tensor가 타원체를 잘 구성함을 알수 있었다. 또한 주어진 고분자의 결정 면들에 관계없이 고유한 중심축을 지니고 있음을 확인할수 있었다. 이를 통해 복잡한 배향 모드를 갖는 경우에 본연구에서 제안한 x-타원체를 통해 결정의 배향중심축을 효과적으로 찾을수 있음을 알수 있었다.

A Study on the Flow Control in a Wide Angle Diffuser by Installation of a Rectangular Prism (광각디퓨저의 내부에 설치된 장방형 각주를 이용한 유동제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a experimental work to investigate the influence of a turbulent wake flow on the velocity distribution of a diffuser with PIV method. The turbulent wake is generated by a rectangular prism, which is installed at the inlet of a diffuser. The results show that the velocity recovery of the subsonic diffuser is dependent on the height and location of rectangular prism. It is found that a certain height of the rectangular prism to generate the turbulent wake give a better velocity recovery, compared with no rectangular prism.

  • By using the single mode optical fiber, we fabricated Fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer (FFPI). The change over a wide range in the optical path length of a FFPI is observed. The temporal movement of the interference fringes by external condition to P.Z. T) is converted to circular motion on an oscilloscope display and then recorded with a micro-computer. The two output voltages of the D/A converters are applied to X and Y terminals of oscilloscope to display circular motion on oscilloscope. Thus the direction of phase shift can be determined with observing the direction of circular motion. The variation of the optical length can be measured by calculating the angle of spot of circle with an accuracy of λ/90 wave length due to variation of temperature in this system 2.7x10-4$^{\circ}C$.

  • We propose a negative liquid crystal (n-LC) cell with parallel patterned electrodes for high transmittance and fast response. The proposed cell has higher transmittance and shorter response time than a conventional fringe-field switching cell using n-LCs, because the proposed cell does not have transmittance dips and does have a thinner LC layer.

  • A miniaturized fluorescence detection system based on total internal reflection (TIR) configuration, which is applicable to detecting the presence of biological materials labeled with fluorescence dye in micro total analysis systems (${\mu}TAS$), is proposed. In conventional fluorescence testing and analysis devices, interference between the excitation light beam and the emitted light from dyes is unavoidable. This paper presents a fluorescence detection system based on TIR configuration that allows the excitation light beam and the emitted light to be spatially perpendicular to each other so as to minimize the interference where fluorescence emission is detected at the orthogonal angle to the excitation beam. We achieved the limit of detection of about 5 nmol/L with a high linearity of 0.994 over a wide range of 6-FAM mol concentration, being comparable to that in earlier studies.

  • Intelligent robots are widely needed in various areas of industry from extremely dangerous environments to service tasks. For autonomous mobile robots, it is significant to move itself safely to a destination point, recognizing its surroundings. Advances in sensor technology and its applications are achieved in order to develop an intelligent robot. In this paper, a mobile robot with a path-finding algorithm is presented. The path-finding algorithm is the one that does not only find a path to designated destination and also recognizes obstacles on the way, calculating its distance. 10 ultrasonic sensor are mounted on the front and rear of the mobile robot to figure out its position. Specular reflection and wide viewing angle, which are inherent characteristics of ultrasonic waves, cause errors in measuring distance.

  • In this study, an effective method for designing an electromagnetic multilayer radome is introduced. This method is achieved by using ant colony optimization for a continuous domain in the transmission coefficient maximization with stability for a wide angle of incidence in both perpendicular and parallel polarizations in specific X- and Ku-bands. To obtain the optimized parameter for a C-sandwich radome, particle swarm optimization algorithm is operated to give a clear comparison on the effectiveness of ant colony optimization for a continuous domain. The qualification of an optimized multilayer radome is also compared with an effective solid radome type in transmitted power stability and presented in this research.
