The purpose of this paper is to develop automatic incident detection algorithm using image based detector in freeway management system. This algorithm was developed by using neutral network for high speed roadway and by using speed and occupancy variable for low speed roadway. The image detector system with the developed automatic incident detection algorithm can detect multi-lane as well as several detect areas for each lane. To evaluate this system, field tests to measure the detecting rate of incidents were performed with other systems which have APID and DES algorithm at high speed roadway(freeway) and low speed roadway(national arterial). As the results of field test, it found that the detect rate of this system was highest rate comparing to other two systems.

In this paper, a Logarithmic Video Amplifier(LVA) for radar system or satellite communications is described. The proposed LVA is composed of a input stage, amplification stage, and output stage. As well as a novel series-parallel architecture is proposed for the purpose of wide dynamic range and high speed operation, a newly developed input stage is designed in order to control the voltage level between LVA and detector diode. The LVA is fabricated with a 1.5um 2-poly 2-metal n-well Bi-CMOS technology, and the chip area is 1310 um x 1540 um. From the experimental results, it consumes 190 mW at 10V power supply, the chip has 60 dB dynamic range and 100ns falling time.

This paper presents a wide dynamic range radio-frequency (RF) root-mean-square (RMS) power detector using an automatic gain control (AGC) loop. The AGC loop consists of a variable gain amplifier (VGA), RMS conversion block and gain control block. The VGA exploits dB-linear gain characteristic of the cascade VGA. The proposed circuit utilizes full-wave squaring and generates a DC voltage proportional to the RMS of an input RF signal. The proposed RMS power detector operates from 500MHz to 5GHz. The detecting input signal range is from 0 dBm to -70 dBm or more with a conversion gain of -4.53 mV/dBm. The proposed RMS power detector is designed in a 65-nm 1.2-V CMOS process, and dissipates a power of 5 mW. The total active area is $0.0097mm^2$.
This paper proposes a new method using Wide Line Detector based statistical shape Feature (WLDF) to identify whether or not a tongue is cracked; a cracked tongue is one of the most frequently used visible features for diagnosis in traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). We first detected a wide line in the tongue image, and then extracted WLDF, such as the maximum length of each detected region, and the ratio between maximum length and the area of the detected region. We trained a binary support vector machine (SVM) based on the WLDF to build a classifier for cracked tongues. We conducted an experiment based on our proposed scheme, using 196 samples of cracked tongues and 245 samples of non-cracked tongues. The results of the experiment indicate that the recognition accuracy of the proposed method is greater than 95%. In addition, we provide an analysis of the results of this experiment with different parameters, demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
We present the design, expected performance, and current status of the wide field near-infrared camera (OAOWFC) now being developed at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, NAOJ, NINS. OAOWFC is a near-infrared survey telescope whose effective aperture is 91cm. It works at Y, J, H, and $K_s$ bands and is dedicated to the survey of long period variable stars in the Galactic plane. The field of view is $0.95 {\times} 0.95 deg^2$ which is covered by one HAWAII-2 RG detector of 2048 ${\times}$ 2048 pixels with the pixel size of $18.5 {\mu}m\;{\times}\;18.5{\mu}m$, that results in the sampling pitch of 1.6 arcsec/pixel. OAOWFC can sweep the area of $840 deg^2$ every 3 weeks, attaining a limiting magnitude of 13 in $K_s$ band. It allows us to observe long period variables embedded in the Galactic plane where interstellar extinction is severe in optical.
We have determined the contents of monosaccharides in the hydrolysates of some yogurt and orange juice products by derivatizing monosaccharides with p-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester (ABEE). The separation of the ABEE-derivatized monosaccharides was efficiently carried out by HPLC using a microcolumn packed with the Alltima $C_{18}$ stationary phase. The concentrations of monosaccharides were determined based on the measured peak area/height counts. ABEE derivatization of fructose and its detection have never been successfully carried out before this work. In this study, two peaks were observed in a fixed ratio for ABEE-fructose, and the ratio was maintained over a wide range of fructose concentration. In order to prove the validity of the above method, we compared the concentrations of glucose, galactose and fructose determined by ABEE derivatization and UVD (ultraviolet detector) chromatography with those determined by RID (refractive index detector) chromatography without derivatization. The determined concentrations of monosaccharides obtained from the two chromatographic methods were found close to each other within acceptable error ranges.
Seismically induced structural damage, as well as any damage caused by a natural catastrophic event, covers a wide area. This suggests to supervise the event consequences by vision tools. This paper reports the evolution from the results obtained by the project RADATT (RApid Damage Assessment Telematics Tool) funded by the European Commission within FP4. The aim was to supply a rapid and reliable damage detector/estimator for an area where a catastrophic event had occurred. Here, a general open-source methodology for the detection and the estimation of the damage caused by natural catastrophes is developed. The suitable available hazard and vulnerability data and satellite pictures covering the area of interest represent the required bits of information for updated telematics tools able to manage it. As a result the global damage is detected by the simple use of open source software. A case-study to a highly dense agglomerate of buildings is discussed in order to provide the main details of the proposed methodology.

The PHENIX Experiment is the largest of the four experiments that have taken data at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. PHENIX, the Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction eXperiment, is designed specifically to measure direct probes of the collisions such as electrons, muons, and photons. The primary goal of PHENIX is to discover and study a new state of matter called the Quark-Gluon Plasma. Among many particles, muons coming from W-boson decay gives us key information to analyze the spin of proton. Resistive plate chambers are proposed as a suitable solution as a muon trigger because of their fast response and good time resolution, flexibility in signal readout, robustness and the relatively low cost of production. The RPC detectors for upgrade were assembled and their performances were evaluated. The procedure to make the detectors better was optimized and described in detail in this thesis. The code based on ROOT was written and by using this the performance of the detectors made was evaluated, and all of the modules for north muon arm met the criteria and installation at PHENIX completed in November 2009. As RPC detectors that we made showed fast response, capacity of covering wide area with a resonable price and good spatial resolution, this will give the opportunity for applications, such as diagnosis and customs inspection system.
A CMOS active pixel sensor has been designed and fabricated using standard 2-poly and 4-metal $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS processing technology. The CMOS active pixel sensor has been made up of a unit pixel having a highly sensitive PMOSFET photo-detector and electronic shutters that can control the light exposure time to the PMOSFET photo-detector, correlated-double sampling (CDS) circuits, and an 8-bit two-step flash analog to digital converter (ADC) for digital output. This sensor can obtain a stable photo signal in a wide range of light intensity. It can be realized with a special function of an electronic shutter which controls the light exposure-time in the pixel. Moreover, this sensor had obtained the digital output using an embedded ADC for the system integration. The designed and fabricated image sensor has been implemented as a $128{\times}128$ pixel array. The area of the unit pixel is $7.60{\mu}m{\times}7.85{\mu}m$ and its fill factor is about 35 %.
The Recently, large area matrix-addressed image detectors are investigated for X-ray imaging with medical diagnostic and other applications. In this paper, a new flat panel gas detector for diagnostic X-ray imaging is proposed, and its characteristics are investigated. The research of flat panel gas detector is not exist at all. Because of difficulty to inject gas against to atmospheric pressure. So almost gas detector made by chamber shape. We made flat panel sample by display technique. (ex: PDP, Fed, etc.) The experimental measurements, the transparent electrodes, dielectric layer, and the MgO protection layer were formed in front glass. And, the X-ray phosphor layer and address electrodes are formed in the rare glass. The dark current, the x-ray sensitivity and linearity as a function of electric field were measured to investigate the electrical properties. From the results, the stabilized dark current density and the significant x-ray sensitivity were obtained. And the good linearity as a function of exposure dose was showed in wide diagnostic energy range. These results means that the passive matrix-addressed flat panel gas detector can be used for digital x-ray imaging.
