A Study of Wideband Method for the Millimeter-wave Planar Antenna (밀리미터파대 평면형 안테나의 광대역화 방안)

  • In this paper, the linear tapered slot(LTS) antenna and linear constant tapered slot(LCTS) antenna are optimized for millimeter-wave antenna by the finite difference time domain(FDTD) method and then fabricated and measured. The microstrip-to-slot transition is proposed with the widen $\lambda$/4 open stub as feeder for wide bandwidth of 16.5GHz($VSWR\leq2$). The results of the calculation and measurement, the bandwidth of LTS antanna is 8.3GHz(26.47%) and 7.1792GHz(22.4%) respectively. Also, the bandwidth of LCTS antenna is 8.1GHz(26.47%) and 6.3243GHz(20.43%) respectively.

Design of Compact Stepped Open Slot Antenna for UWB Applications (UWB 응용을 위한 소형 계단형 개방 슬롯 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact stepped open slot antenna for an operation in the UWB band is studied. The proposed antenna is miniaturized by inserting L-shaped slots on the ground plane of the stepped open slot antenna through the creation of a resonance in the low frequency, and a strip director is appended to the antenna in order to increase the gain in the middle and high frequency regions. The effects of varying the length of the L-shaped slots, the distance between the director and the slot antenna, and the director length on input reflection coefficient and realized gain characteristics of the proposed antenna are analyzed. The optimized antenna with the size of $30mm{\times}30mm$ is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experiment results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 3.02-11.04 GHz for a VSWR < 2, which assures the operation in the UWB band.

Wideband Slot Antenna with Corrugated Structure (물결모양 구조를 갖는 광대역 슬롯 안테나)

  • In this paper, a wideband slot antenna with corrugated structure antenna is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a ground plane with corrugated slot and microstrip feed-line. Even with a limited dimension of $70{\times}70{\times}1.6mm$, the proposed antenna has wide bandwidth due to the longer current path formed by the corrugated slot structure. Measured bandwidth(10 dB return loss) and fractional bandwidth of the proposed antenna are 2,180 MHz(2.5~4.68 GHz) and 60.7 % at the center frequency of 3.59 GHz. The proposed antenna has an omni-directional radiation pattern and measured gains and average efficiency were 3.48~5.83 and dBi, 81.55 %, respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified rhombus slot UWB(Ultra Wide Band) antenna with fork-shaped feeding structure. The proposed modified rhombus slot structure is eliminated upper and lower part of the basic rhombus slot shape to get ultra-wideband characteristics for UWB communication. Also, feeding structure is used to fork-shaped structure to get ultra-wideband characteristics. The antenna is designed on an FR-4 substrate of which the dielectric constant is 4.4, and its overall size is $34mm(W1){\times}34mm(L1){\times}1mm(t)$, and its slot antenna size is $30mm(W2){\times}16.75mm(L3+L4)$. After the optimized process, the proposed antenna is fabricated and measured. Measured result. fabricated antenna satisfied -10 dB impedance bandwidth in UWB frequency band (3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz ). And measured results of gain and radiation patterns characteristics displayed determined for operating bands.

  • In this paper, the slot coupled stacked microstrip antenna, which has wide bandwidth characteristics because of the double tuning effects from the interactions between two patches and feeding slot and improves distortions of radiation patterns due to spurious radiation from feeder, is analyzed. For the analy- sis Green function in the spectrum domain and Galerkin method is applied with an accurate analysis mode for slot coupled feeding structure using the scattering analysis method. The basis functions are 3 EB modes for patches and 5 PWS modes for feeder. The slot coupled stacked microstrip antennas are designed and fabricated with the center frequency of 11.5 Ghz and 12.0 GHz. The experimental results show the wide bandwidth characteristics of 1.9 ~ 2.2 GHz and agree well with the simulation results which have 15~20% bandwidth.

  • In this paper, a 2~18 GHz wideband 6-port network is designed and fabricated to extend the measurement frequency bandwidth of noise parameter measurement method using 6-port network. In order to design a broadband 6-port network, a wilkinson power divider and a directional coupler with wideband characteristics are designed. The wilkinson power divider is designed as a three-section structure to achieve wideband characteristics. The direction coupler is designed as a three-section structure and slot-coupled structure using multi-layer substrate to obtain wideband characteristics. A wideband 6-port network is designed and fabricated combining the designed power divider and coupler. The measured results of the fabricated 6-port network for the 2~18 GHz band show characteristics applicable to the noise parameter measurement method.

  • In this paper, we propose the algorithm to reduce guard time of UWB MAC time slot for throughput gain. In the proposed draft by multiband ofdm alliance (MBOA), Guard time of each medium access slot (MAS) is composed of shortest inter-frame space (SIFS) and MaxDrift which is the time caused by maximum frequency offset among devices. In this paper, to reduceguard time means that we nearly eliminate MaxDrift term from guard time. Each device of a piconet computes relative frequency offset from the device initiating piconet using periodically consecutive transferred beacon frames. Each device add or subtract the calculated relative frequency offset to the estimated each MAS starting point in order to synchronize with calculated MAS starting point of the device initiating piconet. According to verification of simulations, if the frequency offset estimator is implemented with 8 decimal bit, the ratio of the wasted time to Superframe is always less than 0.0001.

  • In this paper, A compact ultra-wideband(UWB) bandpass filter(BPF) with WLAN notched filter has been proposed. H-shaped slot is studied and adopted to tighten the coupling of inter-digital capacitor in order to improve the BPF's performance. Three pairs of tapered defected ground structures(DGS) are formed to assign their transmission zeros towards the out of band signal, thereby suppressing the spurious passband. Also Meander line slot is developed to reject the undesired wireless local-area network(WLAN) radio signals. That's combining these three structures we obtain a small sized UWB BPF.
