Compact Band-notched UWB Antenna Design Based On Transmission Line Model

  • In order to avoid the interference from existing narrowband communication systems, this paper proposes a compact band-notched UWB (ultra wideband) antenna with size of $12mm{\times}22mm{\times}1.6mm$. Transmission line model is applied to analyzing wide impedance matching characteristic of the modified base antenna, which has a gradual stepped impedance feeder structure. The proposed antenna realizes dual band-notched function by combining two biased T-shaped parasitic elements on the rear side with a window aperture on the radiation patch. The simulation current distributions of the antenna reflect resonant suppression validity of the two methods. In addition, the measured radiation characteristics demonstrate the proposed antenna prevents signal interference from WLAN (5.15-5.825GHz) and WiMAX (3.4-3.69GHz) effectively, and the measured patterns show the antenna omnidirectional radiation in working frequencies.

  • A new type of high frequency wideband ultrasonic transducer with a separation between a transmitter and a receiver was proposed and its characteristics were simulated using a PSpice model. The piezoelectric ceramic $PbTiO_{3}$ as a transmitter and the piezoelectric copolymer P(VDF- TrFE) as a receiver were used for high sensitivity and wide bandwidth, respectively. The characteristics of the focusing transducer with center frequency of approximately 35MHz fabricated in this study showed very wide bandwidth, which could give an axial spatial resolution better than $30{\mu}m$ in B-mode image for biological tissues.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the AFR (Air-to-Fuel Ratio) control problem, which is based on the wide-band oxygen sensor output. The dedicated nonlinear controller is based on the feedback lineaization technique. It is well known that the feedback linearizing control technique requires an exact model of the plant for the cancellation of plant nonlinearities. A sliding mode control scheme is applied which can effectively compensate the modeling uncertainties. The measurement time delay of an oxygen sensor limits the gain of the feedback controller. Hence, time delay compensation procedure is necessary for the improvement of control performance. The Smith predictor is adopted to compensate the effects of time delay. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed controllers can effectively reduce the transient peaks of AFR in spite of fast tip-in and tip-out maneuvers of the throttle.

An Embedded Wide-Band Spiral Inductor for 10 Gb/s Optical Transceiver Applications

  • The wide-band spiral inductor to be monolithically integrated on the AlN substrate as a choking inductor for a compact 10 Gb/s optical transmitter applications is investigated. In order to reduce the parasitic capacitance limiting the choking bandwidth, the AlN substrate is partially etched away, which is analyzed by using an equivalent circuit model. The measured $S_{21}$ transmission response of the fabricated inductor is suppressed as low as -10 dB in the frequency range of 5 to 16 GHz.

  • In this paper, performance of a double binary turbo coded ultra wide band (UWB) system is analyzed and simulated in an indoor wireless channel. Binary pulse position modulation-time hopping (BPPM-TH) signals are considered. The indoor wireless channel is modeled as a modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) channel. The performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability (BER). From the simulation results, it is seen that double binary turbo coding offers considerable coding gain with reasonable encoding complexity. It is also demonstrated that the performance of the UWB system can be substantially improved by increasing the number of iterations.

무선데이터 통신을 위한 고효율 광대역 마이크로스트립 대역통과 필터 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on characteristics of High Efficiency and Wideband Microstrip Band Pass Filter for Wireless Data Communication)

  • 본 논문에서는 고속 무선데이터 통신을 위하여 구형공진기와 SIOS를 사용하여 삽입손실이 작고, 차단특성이 아주 좁고, 광대역 특성을 갖는 마이크로스트립 대역통과필터를 연구하였다. 계단 임피던스 스터브는 일반 0.25${\lambda}$보다 30%의 길이를 줄일 수 있고, 또한 스터브의 임피던스의 크기를 변경할 수를 줄일 수 있는 장점이 있음으로 필터의 특성 개선에 적용할 수 있다. 본 논문의 객관성을 입증하기 위해서 최적화된 광대역 대역통과 필터를 구현하였다. 전송선로 모델을 사용하여 계산한 주파수 특성 결과는 실험값과 아주 잘 일치하였다. 구현된 필터의 모드발생스터브에 의하여 발생한 극점은 저 주파수 대역에서 3.610GHz, 4.265GHz, 고주파수 대역에서 8.494GHz, 9.056GHz이다. 필터의 3dB 대역폭은 58%(3.695GHz)이고, 삽입손실은 0.37dB, 30dB이고, 차단특성은 저 주파수 대역에서 237MHz, 고주파수대역에서 234MHz이다.

  • 본 논문에서는 타키오닉스의 SiGe HBT 파운더리를 이용하여 50 MHz에서 3 GHz까지 동작하는 광대역 RFIC 증폭기를 구현한다. 평탄한 이득특성과 광대역 임피던스 정합을 위하여 voltage-shunt 피드백 구조를 이용하였으며, 저주파 소신호 해석을 이용하여 설계 파라메터의 초기값을 결정하였다. 설계시점에서 HBT의 대신호 모델이 준비되지 않았기 때문에 저주파에서 유효한 튜닝보드를 제작하여 설계 파라메터를 미세 조정하였다. 제작된 증폭기는 12 dB 이득에 1 dB 이득 변동특성을 갖고 있으며, P1 dB는 850 MHz에서 15 dBm이다.

Si MOSFET과 GaN FET Power System 성능 비교 평가 (Comparative Performance Evaluation of Si MOSFET and GaN FET Power System)

  • This paper carries out a series of analysis of power system using Gallium Nitride (GaN) FET which has wide band gap (WBG) characteristics comparing to conventional Si MOSFET-used power system. At first, for comparison of each semiconductor device, the switching-transient parameter is quantitatively extracted from released information of GaN FET. And GaN FET model which reflect this dynamic property is configured. By using this model, the performance of GaN FET is analyzed comparing to Si MOSFET. Also, in order to enable a representative assessment on the power system level, Si MOSFET and GaN FET are applied to the most common structure of power system, full-bridge, and each power systems are compared based on various criteria, such as performance, efficiency and power density. The entire process is verified with the aid of mathematical analysis and simulation.

주파수 영역 해석 기법을 이용한 비정규 광대역 과정의 피로해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fatigue Analysis of Non-Gaussian Wide Band Process using Frequency-domain Method)

  • Most frequency domain-based approaches assume that structural response should be a Gaussian random process. But a lot of non-Gaussian processes caused by multi-excitation and non-linearity in structural responses or load itself are observed in many real engineering problems. In this study, the effect of non-Normality on fatigue damages are discussed through case study. The accuracy of four frequency domain methods for non-Gaussian processes are compared in the case study. Power-law and Hermite models which are derived for non-Gaussian narrow-banded process tend to estimate fatigue damages less accurate than time domain results in small kurtosis and in case of large kurtosis they give conservative results. Weibull model seems to give conservative results in all environmental conditions considered. Among the four methods, Benascuitti-Tovo model for non-Gaussian process gives the best results in case study. This study could serve as background material for understanding the effect of non-normality on fatigue damages.

Development of Empirical Formulas for Approximate Spectral Moment Based on Rain-Flow Counting Stress-Range Distribution

  • Many studies have been performed to predict a reliable and accurate stress-range distribution and fatigue damage regarding the Gaussian wide-band stress response due to multi-peak waves and multiple dynamic loads. So far, most of the approximation models provide slightly inaccurate results in comparison with the rain-flow counting method as an exact solution. A step-by-step study was carried out to develop new approximate spectral moments that are close to the rain-flow counting moment, which can be used for the development of a fatigue damage model. Using the special parameters and bandwidth parameters, four kinds of parameter-based combinations were constructed and estimated using the R-squared values from regression analysis. Based on the results, four candidate empirical formulas were determined and compared with the rain-flow counting moment, probability density function, and root mean square (RMS) value for relative distance. The new approximate spectral moments were finally decided through comparison studies of eight response spectra. The new spectral moments presented in this study could play an important role in improving the accuracy of fatigue damage model development. The present study shows that the new approximate moment is a very important variable for the enhancement of Gaussian wide-band fatigue damage assessment.
