본 고에서는 WiBro Evolution에 대하여 개관한다. WiBro Evolution은 현재 전 세계적으로 상용화되고 있는 WiBro 시스템의 진화형태로, 향후 더욱 다양해질 사용자 및 서비스 제공자의 요구사항을 반영한 4세대 통신시스템을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 WiBro Evolution시스템은 기존 WiBro시스템과의 호환성이 유지되어야 하며, ITU에서 4세대 통신시스템 표준으로 추진중인 IMT-advanced의 요구사항을 만족시킬 수 있어야 한다. 이러한 표준개발 과정에서 WiBro Evolution의 기술적 목표를 달성할 수 있도록 다양한 기술들이 반영될 예정이다. 이러한 기술들로 전송기술, MIMO기술, 셀 경계성능 향상 기술, Self configuration 기지국 기술, 수직 핸드오버 기술 등이 고려되고 있다.

삼성전자와 한국전자통신연구원이 공동으로 기술개발에 성공하여 2006년 6월 국내에서 세계 최초로 서비스를 개시한 WiBro는 최대 전송속도 하향 75Mbps($2{\times}2$ MIMO)/상향 50Mbps($1{\times}n$ MIMO), 시속 250km/h로 이동하면서 사용할 수 있는 기술이다. 2011년 1분기 기준 전세계 90개국 195개 사업자가 WiBro 서비스를 제공 또는 준비 중인데, 최근 대규모 WiBro 사업자인 러시아 Yota와 미국 Clearwire가 LTE로의 전환 가능성을 시사하는 등 글로벌 WiBro 사업에 대한 위기감이 나타나고 있다. 본 고에서는 국내외의 WiBro의 시장 현황 및 전망을 살펴보고, 국내로의 시사점을 모색해보고자 한다.

There are several kinds of service standards for 3G($3^{rd}$-Generation) wireless communication as WCDMA, CDMA2000 and WiBro(Wireless Broadband Internet). Especially WiBro Wave2 system is a marked currnt issue. In this paper, we describe on the cell plan tool to desgin WiBro Wave2 network. For this, we treat from basic theory to practical substance to produce new(or modified) path loss prediction model for 2.3GHz. And we explain the method how to implement new technology MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) deployed in Wave2 system. Also we emphasize on the importance of LOS(Line Of Sight) analysis in WiBro network design.

널리 보급된 컴퓨터와 인터넷 그리고 모바일기기의 발달은 우리사회에 큰 변화를 주었다. 이는 이동성을 제공하면서 휴대 인터넷을 사용할 수 있는 서비스를 절실히 필요로 하게 되었고 그러한 요구에 부응하여 WiBro가 탄생하였다. 본 논문에서는 WiBro의 Downlink(DL)와 Uplink(UL)의 속도를 다양한 환경에서 현재 시판중인 WiBro 모뎀으로 성능을 평가해 보았고, 그 결과 WiBro에서 추구하는 DL:UL의 비율과 비슷하게 나옴을 확인하였다. 하지만 서비스 지역의 건물 내에서 WiBro의 서비스를 원활하게 받지 못하는 문제점을 발견하였고, 그 해결책으로 Fixed RS, Nomadic RS, 그리고 Mobile RS 3가지 방식을 제안하였다. 특히 건물의 경우는 Fixed RS(Relay Station)에서 Broadcast message 방식과 Wake-up 방식을 사용하도록 제안하였다.

본 논문은 U-City (Ubiquitous City)의 무선망을 구축하는데 있어 WLAN 기반의 무선망과 WiBro 기반의 무선망을 고려하고 각 방식을 통해 구축할 경우 소요되는 비용과 얻을 수 있는 편익을 분석하여 경제적 효율성이 높은 무선망 방식을 선정하는 방법론을 제시하였다. 비용 분석을 위한 기초 데이터 획득을 위해 셀 설계 및 커버리지 분석을 수행하였으며, WiFi와 WiBro의 기술적 특정을 바탕으로 편익 분석을 수행하였다. 비용-편익 분석 결과 WiBro 무선망의 손익분기점이 WiFi 무선망에 비해 1.75년 빨리 도달하며, NPV(Net Present Value)도 114억원 가량 큰 것으로 나타나 경제적으로 효율적인 무선망 방식으로 분석되었다.

This study first attempted to point out fundamental reasons behind the failure to have WiBro services off the saddle, investigating the previous studies, and second to screen the WiBro promotion policies after reviewing the major steps conducted thus far by the government. In order to put the screened policies in order by the importance, an AHP analysis was conducted targeting WiBro professionals in various fields such as government offices, universities, research institutes, and industry. One step further, causal loop diagramming on the system dynamics methodology was conducted to examine the dynamic structure of the WiBro market in holistic standpoint of view. Finally, a simulation model was developed based on the causal loop diagrams and the results of the AHP analysis in order to examine how various policy scenarios influence the growth of the WiBro market over time, and to compare the mix of policy options. Finally, the study attempted to draw some implications for WiBro vitalization.

와이브로(WiBro), 3G 무선인터넷(HSDPA), 3G LTE 등과 같은 와이어리스 브로드밴드(Wireless Broand) 기술이 점차 성숙됨에 따라 이들 망을 활용한 다양한 무선인터넷 서비스를 제공하려는 사업자들이 증가하고 있다. 기존의 WLAN, 2G/3G 회선망에서의 제한된 이동성 및 네트워크 전송 속도를 개선한 와이어리스 브로드밴드 서비스 시장은 국내에서도 2006년부터 WiBro 및 HSDPA가 사용됨에 따라 사업자간의 경쟁도 본격화되고 있다. 이러한 환경 속에서 사업자들은 신속하고 편리한 서비스 개통과 스마트폰, USB모뎀, 노트북, UMPC, PMP등 다양한 단말들의 펌웨어 업그레이드, A/S 처리 방안에 대해 고심을 하고 있으며, 이들 문제점은 막대한 비용과 고객 민원을 야기시키는 요인이기도 하다. 따라서 경제적인 관리비용으로 동적인 서비스/펌웨어 업그레이드 및 A/S에 대한 고객 만족도를 높이기 위한 단말 원격 관리 필요성이 절실히 요구된다. WiBro 단말의 안전하고 효율적으로 관리하기 위해서는 단말과 기지국사이의 무선구간에 대한 보안(security)을 강화시켜 줄 수 있으면서 이동성(mobility)을 고려한 OMA DM프로토콜을 이용하는 것이 적합하다. 또한, WiBro에서 가입자 인증을 채택하고 있는 UICC의 관리를 위해서 3GPP에서 정의하는 SMS/MMS기반의 또는 BIP(Bear Independent Protocol)기반의 OTA기술을 병행하여 사용하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 Wi-MAX단말 관리를 위한 OTA Provisioning 규격으로 OMA DM과 TR069이 WiMAX 단말을 위하여 어떻게 적용하도록 규정하고 있는지를 살펴본다. 특히, WiBro 가입자 인증뿐만 아니라 폰북, DRM, 금융서비스 등 다양한 부가 서비스를 위하여 사용되는 UICC의 원격관리를 위한 관리 요소들을 정의, 설계하고 이를 바탕으로 구현된 KTUICC OTA Provisioning시스템을 소개한다.

This research is to substantially analyze the economic value of portable Internet (WiBro), WCDMA High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), WiBro+VoIP, and WiBro+DMB regarded as the next generation of broadcasting. Based on the empirical analysis of economic values, we provide the optimal paths of converged communications and broadcasting services related to WiBro. 1,000 Internet users in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas were surveyed in their homes. The collected survey was calculated as an accurate economic value distribution for relevant services, and the average and mean were taken using a parametric logit model, semi-parametric Spike model, and nonparametric Turnbull and Kernel estimations in order to analyze the contingent economic value of the amount offered to the subjects of the analysis. The contingent value analysis results varied slightly according to the different methodologies; however, all showed the following common features. The economic value of WiBro, Internet-based WCDMA, VoIP, and DMB with WiBro appeared to be similar. Therefore, if WiBro and WCDMA (HSDPA) form a competitive relationship, the types of bundled services offered as portable Internet service and the supply point of such bundled services are expected to emerge in a strategic plan for stimulating service markets and the prior occupation of the market.

세계 각 국은 Mobile WiMAX 주파수를 다양한 대역에서 도입을 시도하고 있다. 특히 2.5 GHz 대역은 WRC에서 정한 IMT-2000 추가 대역으로 향후 이동통신용으로 사용될 것으로 전망되며, Mobile WiMAX 등 글로벌 무선광대역서비스 제공이 가능한 대역으로 주목받고 있다. 그런데, 국내 기술인 WiBro의 세계시장 진출 기반 조성을 위하여 ITU-R 산하 WP8F 회의에서 Mobile WiMAX를 IMT-2000 기술 표준으로 포함시키기 위한 활동을 전개 하였으며, 최근 ITU-R 전파통신총회에서 한국의 WiBro 기술을 3G 기술 표준으로 최종 승인했다. 이에 본 고는 주요국의 2.5 GHz 대역 이용계획과 WiBro 기술의 IMT-2000 표준 채택에 따른 시장의 변화를 알아보고자 하였다.

Multiple Antenna Technologies such as Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Beamforming provide the increase of channel capacity and the reliability of wireless link. To obtain these advantages, WiBro, Mobile WiMAX and $4^{th}$ Generation System are employing multiple antenna technologies. There exist, however, many technical issues in considering the application of the technologies or the providing of services using them. In this paper, various technical topics are discussed and simple solutions are proposed. Beamforming has several technical issues which include coverage imbalance, difficulties in providing Multicast-Broadcast Service (MBS). In Addition, network planning is a critical point from a cell extension and initial network entry point of view. In case of MIMO, network deployment is discussed in that cellular data network such as WiBro has many repeaters. MIMO mode selection for maximizing the cell capacity is also covered.
