  • The hub hole in a wheel of vehicles usually formed with hole expansion process. Formability of material, especially the hole expansion ratio, is important to produce a fine hub hole. The hub hole expansion process is different from general forming process or bore expansion process in the viewpoint of forming a thick plate. In the hole expansion process of the plate with a hole, as the hole being expanded, the crack is occurred to outward direction at the boundary of a hole. Therefore, it is need to apply the fracture criterion in the hub hole expansion process. In this paper, the hub hole expansion process is simulated with commercial elasto-plastic finite element code, LS-DYNA3D considering some ductile fracture criteria. Fracture mode and hole expansion ratio is compared with respect to the fracture criteria. Analysis results demonstrate that only the effective plastic strain is not adequate to predict the fracture mode in the hub hole. And the analysis results also indicate that the ductile fracture criteria properly predict the fracture mode but hole expansion ratio is different with the result of each other because of their different characteristics.

  • The chloride attack of the top mat of reinforcing bars is a major cause of deterioration of comcrete deck of plate girder bridges. This is caused by a current design method which requires a top mat of reinforcing bars to resist a negative bending moment in bridge decks. In recently, empirical evidence has indicated that the top transverse reinforcing bars can patially or fully be eliminated without jeopardizing the structural integrity of a deck. So, one of the most efficient way to increase durability of concrete deck of bridges is the development of new design method that reduce or eliminate the top mat reinforcing bars, mad it is possible by the exact analysis that considering the negative bending moment reducing effect which introduced by relative deflection of plate girders. In this study, we develop the new bridge deck analysis method that considered the effect of relative girder deflection by applying the principles of slope deflection method of frames, and that is fine tuned with results of finite element analysis. This new approach evaluate a bending moment in a deck based on the effect of relative girder deflection as well as the magnitude of wheel loads, the girder spacing and stiffness, deck stiffness and the span length

  • A study on induction plasma deposition with ceramic materials, yttria-stabilized-zirconia ZrO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$ (m.p 264O $^{\circ}C$), was conducted with a view developing a new method for nuclear fuel fabrication Before making dense pellets more than 96%TD., the spraying condition was optimized through the process parameters, such as chamber pressure, plasma plate power powder spraying distance, sheath gas composition, probe position, particle size and powders different morphology. The results with a 5mm thick deposit on rectangular planar graphite substrates showed a 97.11% theoretical density when the sheath gas flow rate was Ar/H$_2$120/20 l/min, probe position 8cm, particle size -75 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and spraying distance 22cm by AMDRY146 powder. The degree of influence of the main effects on density were powder morphology. particle size, sheath gas composition, plate power and spraying distance, in that order. Among the two parameter interactions, the sheath gas composition and chamber pressure affects density greatly. By using the multi-pellets mold wheel type, the pellet density did not exceed 94%T.D., owing to the spraying angle.

  • Longitudinal cracks due to traffic truck loadings that are caused by local deformations of steel orthotropic bridge decks are sometimes observed in the wearing surface. So, underlying causes of the longitudinal pavement crack induced by structural behaviors of steel decks are investigated in this study. For this purpose, The rational finite element model of the steel deck and the pavement having the box girder is developed and a parametric study is performed by varying thickness or elastic modulus ratios of both the steel deck plate and the pavement. As a result, a large tensile strain above the webs of the u-rib and the box girder, which becomes the main cause of the cracks of the pavement, is detected from variation of the normal strain component of the wearing surface in the transverse direction.

  • The primary function of the trackbed in a conventional railway track system is to decrease the stresses in the subgrade to be in an acceptable level. A properly designed trackbed layer performs this task adequately. Many design procedures have used assumed and/or are based on critical stiffness values of the layers obtained mostly in the field to calculate an appropriate thickness of the sublayers of the trackbed foundation. However, those stiffness values do not consider strain levels clearly and precisely in the layers. This study proposes a method of computation of stiffness that can handle with strain level in the layers of the trackbed foundation in order to provide properly selected design values of the stiffness of the layers. The shear modulus values are dependent on shear strain level so that the strain levels generated in the subgrade in the trackbed under wheel loading and below plate of Repeated Plate Bearing Test (RPBT) are investigated by finite element analysis program ABAQUS and PLAXIS programs. The strain levels generated in the subgrade from RPBT are compared to those values from RC (Resonant Column) test after some consideration of strain levels and stress consideration. For comparison of shear modulus G obtained from RC test and stiffness moduli $E_{v2}$ obtained from RPBT in the field, many numbers of mid-size RC tests in laboratory and RPBT in field were performed extensively. It was found in this study that there is a big difference in stiffness modulus when the converted $E_{v2}$ values were compared to those values of RC test. It is verified in this study that it is necessary to use precise and increased loading steps to construct nonlinear curves from RPBT in order to get correct $E_{v2}$ values in proper strain levels.

  • Mechanical properties have been accepted to be major factor to improve wear resistance. The effect of mechanical properties on wear resistance of 0.27C-0.70Ni-1.42Cr-0.20Mo steel was studied under various test conditions. It is clear that yield strength, tensile strength, impact value, and hardness are strongly related each other. Wear resistance tests as pin on plate type and dry sand / rubber wheel type proved to be that wear depends on mechanical properties. Microstructures were also observed to make clear the wear properties. At quenching and low temperature tempering, the specimen has a good wear resistance.

  • Many structural evaluation procedures of road and airfield pavements use the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) as a critical element of non-destructive deflection testing. FWD is a trailer mounted device that provides accurate data on pavement response to dynamic wheel loads. A dynamic load is generated by dropping a mass from a variable height onto a loading plate. The magnitude of the load and the pavement deflection are measured by a load celt and geophones. And database concerning pavement damage should be enhanced to analyze loss of thickness asphalt layer caused from the plastic deformation of pavement structure, such as cracking or rutting. The prototype FWD is developed, which consists of chassis system, hydraulic loading system, data acquisition and analysis system. This system subsequently merged to from automation management system and is then validated and updated to produce a working FWD which can actually be used in the field.

  • Child obesity has become a significant health issue in Korea. Prevalence of obesity in school-age children in Korea has been alarmingly rising since 2008. Prevalence of obesity among infants and preschool-age children in Korea has doubled since 2008. Obese children may develop serious health complications. Before nutritional counseling is pursued, several points should be initially considered. The points are modifiable risk factors, assessment for child obesity, and principles of treatment. Motivational interviewing and a multidisciplinary team approach are key principles to consider in managing child obesity effectively in the short-term as well as long-term. Nutritional counseling begins with maintaining a daily log of food and drink intake, which could possibly be causing obesity in a child. Several effective tools for nutritional counseling in practice are the Traffic Light Diet plan, MyPlate, Food Balance Wheel, and 'Food Exchange Table'. Detailed nutritional counseling supported by a qualified dietitian is an art of medicine enabling insulin therapy and hypoglycemic agents to effectively manage diabetes mellitus in obese children.

  • This paper deals with the influence on the dynamic response of I-type girder railway bridge with high-speed electric multiple unit(HEMU) train load. This bridge system which has six I-girder and several cross beams, is modeled with plate and frame elements. And the upper slab is assumed to be fully connected with girders using rigid rinks. Span lengths, types of vehicle and running speeds are selected as parameters for analyses. For more exact analysis, it was adopted that 3-dimensional section of bridge models was produced by the assumed design wheel loads of HEMU vehicle at 200~350 km/hr speeds. Dynamic vertical deflections, dynamic amplification factors and vertical accelerations of bridges having 30 and 35 m span length were investigated and compared with the limit values specified in various national railway bridge specifications.
