Evaluation of Field Calibration Test on Rail for Train Wheel Force Measurement

  • An accurate measurement of the train-track interaction forces is important for track performance evaluation. In the field calibration test as a wheel load measurement process, the calibration system creates a different boundary condition in comparison with that in the train wheel passage. This study aims to evaluate a reliability of the field calibration test in the process of wheel load measurement. Finite element models were developed to compare the deformed shapes, bending moment and shear force profiles on the rail section. The analysis results revealed that the deformed shapes and their associated bending moment profiles on the rail are significantly different in two numerical simulations of the calibration test and the train wheel load passage. However, the shear stress profile on the rail section of the strain gauge installation in the field was almost identical, which may imply that the current calibration test is sufficiently reliable.

  • From the view point of railway vehicle dynamics, the interaction between wheel and rail have an huge effect on the behavior of the vehicle. This phenomenon is an unique motion, only for railway vehicles. Furthermore, close investigation of the backgrounds of the interaction is the key to estimate the dynamic behavior of the vehicle, successfully. To evaluate the model including flexible bodies such as car body and catenary system of the next generation express train, it is necessary to develop proper dynamic solver including a wheel rail contact module. In this study, wheel-rail contact module is developed using the general purpose dynamic solver. First of all, the procedure for calculation of the wheel-rail contact force has been established. Generally, yaw angle of the wheelset is ignored. Sets of information are summarized as tables and splined for further uses. With this information, normal force and creep coefficient can be extracted and used for FASTSIM algorithm, which has been shown good reliability over years. Normal force and longitudinal, lateral force at the contact surface are also calculated. Those data are verified by commercial railway simulation program 'VAMPIRE'. This procedure and program can offer a basic process for estimation of the dynamic behavior and wear of the wheel-rail system, even while running on the curved rail. Finally, multi-dimensional inspection tool will be developed including the prediction of the derailment.

  • Creep force is one of the only appeared at conventional train which used to be driven by metallic wheel and rail contact. Due to the elastic deformation of wheel/rail contact patch by the weights of wheel and all the components related to it, creep force generates and becomes to the decision factor of critical speed of bogie(or railway vehicle) which is the criteria of avoiding vehicle to be unstable. There are many kind of factors which affect generation of creep force at a wheel/rail contact surface such as viscosity of contact patch, velocity, wheel and rail geometric profile, mechanical properties of wheel and rail. This paper concentrates on a wheelset simple 2 DOF Equation of Motion being exerted. From the simple numerical analysis using linear solution about getting creep force some factors could find roughly. Among the factors geometric parameter could be the one of most important for this study. In the future we'll prolong the range of study to find out method of measuring creep force easily.

차륜/레일 기하학적 접촉 시뮬레이션 프로그램 개발 (Development of a Wheel/Rail Geometric Contact Simulation Program)

  • Wheel/Rail geometric constraint relationships, such as effective conicity and gravitational stiffness, strongly influence the lateral dynamics of railway vehicles. In general, these geometric contact characteristics are nonlinear functions of the wheelset lateral displacement. There is a need to develop a wheel/rail geometric contact simulation program for wheels and rails with arbitrary profiles for the prediction of the dynamic behavior of railway vehicles. An algorithm to simulate any combination of wheels and rails is employed and a GUI for easy analysis is constructed. The simulation program is applied to KTX which will run on both KTX and conventional rails, two rail standards having different rail profiles.   • The noise emitted during train operation is generated with various reasons. It is known that the major noise generation is classified according to the ranges of train speed; that is, engine noise at lower speed range, rolling noise at medium speed range, and air-borne noise at higher speed range. These noises are transmitted in combined form with the noises generated from track components and under-carriage, etc. The rolling noise as a major noise at medium speed range is caused by the vibration occurred at wheel/rail interface. The vibration occurred at wheel/rail interface is transmitted to wheel and rail, and this vibration is emitted from wheel and rail as a noise. The object of this study is to investigate the effect of wheel damper of low noise wheel. In this study theoretical and experimental analysis is performed by numerical model calculations and impact test.

차륜-레일 상호작용력과 레일연마의 상관관계 분석 (Correlation Analysis between Dynamic Wheel-Rail Force and Rail Grinding)

  • 레일표면 품질지수(QI: Quality Index)가 동적 궤도작용력에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 현장측정을 통해 레일연마횟수(Pass)에 따른 레일표면 품질지수의 변화를 분석하였다. 이론식에 근거하여 레일표면 품질지수에 영향을 미치는 매개변수인 열차속도에 따른 상관관계를 분석하였다. 레일연마횟수에 따른 레일표면 품질지수가 동적 궤도작용력에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과, 레일표면 품질지수는 레일연마가 진행됨에 따라 감소하고 동적 궤도작용력 역시 일정 비율로 감소하는 것으로 분석되었으며, 고속주행 시 레일표면 품질지수에 따라 동적 궤도작용력은 크게 증가하는 것으로 분석되었다. 즉, 레일연마는 레일표면 품질지수를 일정비율로 감소시킬 수 있고, 궤도시스템 전반에 영향을 미치는 동적 궤도상호작용력을 저감 시킬 수 있는 것으로 분석되어 효율적인 레일표면관리를 위해서는 운행 노선의 열차속도를 감안한 레일표면 품질지수의 관리가 필요한 것으로 분석되었다.

곡선부 차륜/레일 접촉압력에 따른 레일마모진전 경향 분석 (Analysis of Rail Wear Rate according to Wheel/Rail Contact Pressure on Curved Track)

  • 일반적인 철도에서는 차륜과 레일의 마찰력을 이용하여 열차가 주행하게 된다. 차륜과 레일 사이에는 접촉압력이 발생하게 되고, 차량의 중량, 속도, 사행동, 접촉점 등에 따라 접촉압력의 크기가 변화하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 곡선부 차륜/레일에 대한 유한요소해석을 통해 접촉특성을 분석하였으며, 구름접촉피로시험을 통해 접촉압력에 따른 차륜/레일의 피로손상 및 마모율을 분석하였다. 구름접촉피로시험결과, 일반 및 열처리레일은 차륜에 비해 마모율이 높았으며, 일반 및 열처리레일마모율은 일정한 반복횟수 이상에서 급격히 증가하는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 일반레일이 열처리레일 보다 약 7~15% 마모율이 높았으며, 접촉압력 900~1,500MPa 범위에서 접촉압력에 따른 레일마모율에 대한 회귀분석식을 제시하였다.

  • 휠-레일 접촉해석의 정밀도는 휠과 레일의 접촉 위치 분석 방법 및 접촉력 계산 방법에 따라 결정된다. 휠과 레일의 형상을 2차원 곡선접촉으로 가정하여 휠-레일 접촉 위치를 찾는 방법은 계산시간이 짧은 장점이 있지만 3차원 곡면으로 가정한 경우에 비해 근사화된 해를 가지는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 2차원 곡선접촉 해석에 기인한 방법과 3차원 곡면으로 가정한 방법에 대한 휠셋의 동특성 해석 결과을 비교하고자 한다. 곡선 주행시 휠셋 중심에 대해 요 각도 및 횡변위 등의 해석결과를 비교하고자 한다.

  • 철도차량의 동특성 해석을 위한 기존의 연구는 대부분 2차원 접촉해석에 근거한 근사해법에 의존해 왔다. 최근에 휠-접촉해석에 대한 정확한 해를 구하기 위해 3차원적 접근방법이 제시되고 있지만, 계산시간의 과다로 인해 실제 시뮬레이션 적용에는 효과적이지 못했다. 본 연구의 주요 관점은 효율적인 3차원 휠-레일 접촉 해석을 통해 휠-레일 접촉력을 계산하여 철도차량의 동특성 해석의 새로운 방법을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 통해, 3차원 휠-레일 접촉해석 및 휠셋의 동적 계산식이 제시된다.

도시철도에서 열차제동하중이 레일표면 열화에 미치는 영향 (An Effect on Braking Force for Degradation of Rail Surface in the Urban Railway)

  • The rail surface irregularity is generated severely by train braking effect in the section of station. The braking force increases slip rate and friction factors caused by wheel-rail contact points. It brings rail surface irregularity as well. In this study, interactions between wheel and rail were investigated using rolling contact fatigue theory and mechanism of rail degradation through fracture mechanics. For the more, the Von-Mises stress occurred on the rail due to the interaction between wheel and rail was analyzed using 3-D finite element method. The amounts of surface irregularity of rail were measured according to accumulated passing tonnage in urban railway in fields. Therefore, the maintenance of rail should be separated by running and braking sections to prevent RCF defects.
